Radioactive Larceny Karma

I was unable to post anything yesterday when news broke that a truck load of radioactive cobalt had been stolen and was missing in Mexico. I did hear the sometimes delusional Charles Krauthammer jump on the hysteria bandwagon by insisting that Hezbollah could be the culprits who grabbed the lethal load. He suggested this during the Bret Baier Show last night. Nothing like using terrorist scare tactics to whip up the American people.

Well, turns out this is your classic Mexican mayhem. Two scumbags, armed with guns, decided to jack a truck and steal the contents. Blinded by their greed, the two thieves acted rashly and opened the protective containers designed to contain the radioactivity.

The Washington Post has the story:

With lethal radioactive material on the loose, Mexican authorities put out a lookout across six states. The International Atomic Energy Agency warned that the material “could be extremely dangerous to a person if removed” from its casing.

“I believe, definitely, that the thieves did not know what they had; they were interested in the crane, in the vehicle,” Jimenez said.

The cobalt-60 was found, removed from its casing, in a rural area near the town of Hueypoxtla about 25 miles from where the truck was stolen. Jimenez suspected that curiosity got the better of the thieves and they opened the box. So far the carjackers have not been arrested, but authorities expect they will not live long.

“The people who handled it will have severe problems with radiation,” he said. “They will, without a doubt, die.”

The specter of nuclear material in the hands of terrorists, especially ragheads, is great grist for Hollywood. But it has little to do with reality. The kind of radioactive material that can easily kill thousands is very, very difficult to handle. In fact, it is likely to easily kill those trying to use it for a nefarious end.

This does not mean we should ignore such a threat. Heavens no. We should have safeguards and proactive security measures to guard such material. But we should also avoid the kind of mindless hysteria advanced by neo-cons like Krauthammer.

I watched the Special Report and Krauthammer’s statements that you are referencing. I think your characterization is exaggerated based on what I recall. His comments at the time were definitely not “mindless hysteria”.

  • Deapster

    Krauthammer 2008:

“Obama is a man of first-class intellect and first-class temperament. But his character remains highly suspect. There is a difference between temperament and character. Equanimity is a virtue. Tolerance of the obscene is not.”

guess that is why I do not watch tweety tingles, my loyalty is to my country not any politician president or not

ValJar probably felt Oblamo needed a group hug right about now. Who better to do the job. Except few others were even watching.

          Are those CIA assets?

  • gracepmc

What we should have are secure borders. And a DHS that protects them and us.

    • Dave L.

I think that the worker bees are willing to secure the border, its the management in DC and the administration that is behind this bullshit !

      • gracepmc

Agreed. The ICE agents can’t get an ear anywhere. Obama defies the law, DOJ refuses to enforce it and DHS just hired a whole new crop of immigration attorneys. For the illegals not for American citizens.http://pjmedia.com/jchristianadams/

One day something noticeable and nasty and dangerous will cross the southern borders and activate.

Dog bites man. They made a movie about this in the late 1960′s called “I Am Curious (Yellowcake).”

Ahhhh ….my first “foreign movie” in a sleazy independent theater on a first date. I sensed the world was changing, but I probably was not. Mondo Cane was another disturbing one out at that same time. And Le Weekend, and what was that cargo cult movie? Sure made Europe a very exotic and recklessly dangerous place for us suburban white girls.

Or do we just call it False Memory Syndrome – a pre-existing illness and hand over our money so he can get treatment.

    • TeakWoodKite

      Obama is a lie.

      • Deapster

You overlook his critical occupation, for which there is a proven high need in this country since there are currently not enough citizens to fill it.

Working for a paycheck now is considered a critically endangered occupation slot searching an ever-decreasing pool of applicants, since it is a lot easier for US citizens to bilk the dole and sit on their duffs instead.

Plus who would sell the loafers their booze, if it were not for hard-working illegal immigrants willing to do the work Americans refuse to touch.

      • 0getfitnow1

The only thing transparent about That One is his lies.

  • Deapster

OT: at least some of the Fourth Estate are not slumbering lap dogs. Sharyl Atkinsson keeps her complaints about Obama lack of transparency coming: http://twitchy.com/2013/12/04/shes-got-the-sledgehammer-out-sharyl-attkisson-nails-wh-for-withholding-info/#.Up-9Xk0v538.twitter

Interesting public info request for WH photos the night of Benghazi have been repeatedly denied. The plot keeps thickening.

Where was Obama between 20:00 and 22:00 on that same night. What does she know about what the photos will tell us.

Keep the pressure on, Sharyl, or your name is not Share All.

    • KenoshaMarge

Sharyl Atkinsson is a reporter. Most of the rest are simply Obama press agents.

“But we should also avoid the kind of mindless hysteria advanced by neo-cons like Krauthammer”
If you don’t mind, I’d like to simply avoid all mindless hysteria and anyone who tries to advance it. Neo-con, liberal, doomsday prepper, doesn’t matter to me, hysterical people need a juice box and a nap, not a TV show and certainly not an elected office.

  • Deapster

Pandora’s box. Might be the best theft deterrent out there. Perhaps we should outsource our own radioactive wastes as decoys to be used as major crime prevention tool.

Cruelly meningitus outbreaks among party-hearty college communities if finally having a sobering impact too, when nothing else could control the wild drinking and drugs.

Microbes that have changed history and now radioactive detritus, may return our society to sanity far more than appeals to one’s higher nature.

    • ME

I am always a bit amazed when we get taken down by microbes. People can be so arrogant, like we’re all great hunters with dominion over the Earth….oops, except for the common cold and a few other plagues so tiny we can’t even see them.

      • Deapster

Highly recommend the little book ACHOO which traces the science and research about the common cold – there are facilities devoted to this as very serious study and what one learns about the facts versus the myths is enlightening.

But basically it still gets down to ..take two aspirin … and don’t call me in the morning.

Ain’t Karma a bitch ?? Two new candidates for the 2013 Darwin Awards !

    • S7teen70six

Certainly two new DREAMers that I’m positive Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi and Barry the Bamboozler Obama will insist that we embrace and give free Obamacare, driver’s licences and voter registration cards.

      • KenoshaMarge

Perhaps only temporary cards since it doesn’t appear the two miscreants will live long.

One can only wish that Karma worked as well and as fast more often.

I often agree with Charles Krauthammer and nearly as often disagree. He is waaaay further right than I am. Still, I do enjoy his skewering of Obama.

Both sides of the aisle use fear-mongering as a tactic. It’s despicable and one would have thought the people would have caught on by now.

  • elizabethrc

I think the thieves’ ineptitude qualifies them for a place as head of one of Obama’s innumerable agencies.

    • KenoshaMarge

Absolutely! Their ineptitude and stupidity deserves to be rewarded.

Their promotion wouldn’t last long. Not because they would be fired for incompetence but because in their case their incompetence is going to kill them.

      • ME

“their incompetence is going to kill them.”
But wouldn’t it be awesome if that was a requirement for serving in office? Rather then killing anybody else with your incompetence, we mandate that you can only kill yourself. We may need a Constitutional amendment for that one.

        • KenoshaMarge

Government types would never put that in play – too many states would vote for it.

    • Deapster

OSHA will have a field day with this one.

    • Dave L.

      Nuclear Waste disposal Czar !!!
