The Founding Fathers gave the free press the protection it must have to bare the secrets of government and inform the people. ~ Hugo Black
The Founding Fathers gave the press the protection to do that but not the honesty or character.
Most Americans aren’t the sort of citizens the Founding Fathers expected; they are contented serfs. Far from being active critics of government, they assume that its might makes it right. ~ Joseph Sobran
There was a time when the Democrat Party applauded questioning government. That was in my own lifetime. Now they are not only serfs, they are serfs with their hands chronically out for more freebies to insure their loyalty.
Our founding fathers could not have foreseen that freedom of the press might eventually be threatened just as much by media consolidation as by government. ~ Marshall Herskovitz

Here in the USA where the press has the freedom to be honest – they chose not to be. They sit on their fat, opinionated asses and corrupt their own occupation to the point where a majority of the public doesn’t truth them. They’ve earned that distrust with every lie, spin and silence.
The Founding Fathers gave the press special rights to protect us and they corrupted those rights. Maybe despise isn’t a strong enough word.
