Caroline Kennedy’s Qualifications To Be Senator

1. She’s JFK’s daughter.

2. She asked Uncle Teddy if she could get into the family business. Uncle Teddy, staring his own mortality in the eye, wants to make sure that the name “Kennedy” remains a household word forever.

3. Uncle Ted hooks her up with Barack Obama. Suddenly, Barack Obama is just like JFK. Those of us who remember JFK know how ludicrous that really is.

4. Caroline was placed on the search for VP committee. She helped give us Joe Biden. That alone is enough to frighten anybody.

A list of Caroline’s background and experience in politics, legislative ability and achievements for America, which suggest she has earned the position of Senator from New York follows:

  1. ….
  2. ….
  3. ….
  4. ….

Let me know if I missed anything. Thanks.

Those who live in NY just LONG for Caroline to come here and turn it into another Kennedy Massachusetts. After all, there are still some companies that haven’t packed up and left yet.

P.S. Somehow, they will say that Caroline is no different than Hillary. I give it 24 hours.

  • LD

    Entitlement….

    • Chicago Joe

When I heard this, I thought it was another diss to Hillary. Who can we put in line to the throne after Obama? Hmmmm….perhaps a woman senator from New Your. Salt, meet wound.

      • Adrienne in CA

Don’t worry. Even if she gets installed, Uncle Teddy won’t be around long enough to help her go farther, and no one else will care enough to take up the cause. My take on Caroline is that she’s a lightweight on her own. Truly strong women are neither nurtured nor valued in the Kennedy clan.
        *****A

        • Jim

Unlike those strong Bush women. But I think you got it backward at the end. It should be A******

    • Katherine Jones

I was unfamiliar with her qualifications and this discussion was not very enlightening, so I went of course to Wikipedia and was surprised to see that she is not really such a lightweight as you all say. Check it out. Yes, she has never run for elected office before, but this was Hillary’s first time too. And HRC’s “30 years of public service” is highly inflated, and includes a lot of first lady duties while pulling down private law firm salary.
      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caroline_Kennedy

      • Always Right

I checked that wikipedia article – she’s a great fundraiser and event organizer is what I learned. Really Katherine? That was impressive? I particularly like that, of all her extensive experience, it is noteworthy that she rep’d the family at the funerals of past Presidents. By all means this woman should be a US Senator! Have Sarah Palin and Barack Obama so lowered the standards of experience required for national office that a fund-raising member of the NY Bar Assoc (when was the last time she actually practiced law?) is experienced enough?

  • oowawa

Let me know if I missed anything.

Yes Uppity, you forgot to mention that in order to redeem our collective sorrow/guilt for the tragedies that have befallen the Kennedy clan, we OWE them more than we can ever repay. Sending Caroline to the Senate is not even a down-payment. Similarly, for the tragedy of slavery, we OWE black America a lot–if not reparations, at least a POTUS or two.

trixta, pretty sure oowawa is being facetious.

        • oowawa

Yes Annie, thank you. I was being sarcastic. Trixta, I am not a snake. I was trying to point out that society grants certain people special privileges out of a sense of collective guilt that is entirely improper. Sometimes my sarcasm gets me in trouble because people think I’m being literal.

          • http://firefox AnnieCollier

The same happens to me and I sometimes misread another’s sarcasm and jump in with a quick protest! Happens to the best of us.

My “snake” post is out of order–literally!
            I love Ouwawa’s comment!

Sorry! My response was NOT directed at Ouwawa, but in regards to the general question posed as to the new qualifications for Senator. Aside from having no accomplishments one must also be a snake like Obama. This is the new standard, I’m afraid.

Very snarky, oowanwa. I like it!

Caroline Kennedy? What can I say. She seems like a prefectly nice person. She comes from a family of political lions. She’s of the blood, as they say.

Qualifications? I agree with Uppity. Nada. And yes, I am waiting for the rha-rah squad to compare her to Hillary Clinton, mention [just in case we don't know] that she’s a woman and call us all chronic whiners for mentioning the word “cronyism.”

Robert Kennedy, Jr. would make more sense to me, but perhaps he’s changed his mind on wanting the seat. Or Andrew Cuomo.

But Caroline Kennedy? Don’t get it. And I suspect I’m not alone.

    • http://uppitywoman08.wordpress.com Uppity Woman

We are talking about people who run our country, not Christmas presents. i don’t owe anybody a thing.

  • Linda C.

Caroline Kennedy has been involved in education in NYC. She wrote a book of her mother’s favorite poems. She wrote an article about her experiences attending Elvis Presley’s funeral Other than that, I am clueless.

    • leslie

Anyone can quote their mother’s favorite poems. And we’ve all been involved in education of one sort or another.

      But attending Elvis’ funeral!!!

      Now that’s a qualifying event.

      just saying.

      • lute

Here is a QUALIFIED, deserving woman for that seat.
The NY chapter of NOW wants Rep. Carolyn Maloney.
        http://maloney.house.gov/

  • VMorris

If the POTUS has no tangible qualifications for his job, then why should we expect that any senator should have any qualifications?

Heck, don’t you know that is was change is all about? Change for the sake of change. Forget anything about proven competence.

    • Ani

Sadly, that is what we have come to.

Also, I’m sure after Bush, a lot of people said, ‘how bad could this guy be’…

uh, not a good voting criteria.

    • KintheNorthwest

very well said—Why should we expect qualifications from anyone for any fed job.

Hey look at the benefits they get for just serving….

  • tek

I got an e-mail from the Hillary campaign that said Caroline Kennedy will replace Hillary in the senate. Then it said, “another Kennedy in the WH!” Not sure what that means.

    • /www.youtube.com/watch?v=ibsP6XN2dIo&eurl trixta

      WTF!!!!

I’ll bet they’re preparing Caroline to run against Sarah in 2016.

      • so saddened

        i think you’re right.

just imagine if you’re a serious politician who has spent decades doing important things, and learning and studying and thinking about important issues, and developing relationships with world leaders. and finally, it’s time for you to run for senator or president or whatever. but, out of nowhere comes a celebrity candidate who takes it from you, without having earned it and without being prepared for it.

hillary knows what this feels like. and i’m sure there are lots of knowledgeable, capable, experienced, politicians in new york who feel the same way when they see a spot they’re qualified for go to someone because she “wants” it and had a famous daddy.

so in 2016, some qualified dems and repubs and indies will lose to an unqualified socialite because she had a famous daddy. and we wonder why the country has problems!

        • wowo

          Takes it from you?

          You mean wins right?

All this crap about Caroline is hilarious considering she has about as much ‘experience’ as Hillary had when she parachuted into the seat.

          • Peggy Sue

Hillary was not parachuted into the N.Y. seat. She ran and won when everyone said she shouldn’t and couldn’t. And her experience then was far more extensive than Caroline Kennedy’s is now.

So, please. Save the comments for your Obamatron buddies. It doesn’t fly here and your facts are dead wrong.

            • Lauraks

That’s right. Hillary earned her way and Caroline is and always has been a princess as JFK’s daughter. Not to say she isn’t well educated but she most certainly is acting entitled.

            • workingclass artist

Hmmmm…Truth is Hillary Clinton had some obvious advantages when she won that seat the first time…But even that doesn’t explain how she won the second term and achieved the level of popularity in a hard knuckle state…She earned it…and nobody can plausibly deny her that fact. Quibbling over this as a comparison is kinda silly…There is a difference between being ELECTED…And being SELECTED….HMMM….WHERE HAVE WE HEARD THAT BEFORE…..

          • fif

Another completely uninformed Obot–do these people READ? FYI: HRC had almost 30 years of public service experience in the fields of health care, education, human and civil rights. Please do some research before you make a fool of yourself again.

            • wowo

              garbage.

              • WildChild

                shouldn’t your name be woowoo?

          • ellie

Except that Caroline Kennedy has never received a single vote from the American public. Hillary Clinton was elected, not selected.

Not to mention other qualifications, such as being appointed to the Legal Service Corporation by Jimmy Carter, worked for the Children’s Defense Fund, was a member of the impeachment inquiry staff that took down Nixon and she was twice named to the top 100 most influential lawyers by the National Law Journal.

            There’s a bit of a difference.

          • Always Right

While I get the Hillary bashing (not a fan)- the idea that she had no experience is quite interesting. She at least had a law-carreer. On top of that, she almost got nationalized health care in the US – which is more accomplishment in national government than a lot of senators could claim!

Compare that to CBK – a fund-raiser, event organizer, and book editor. She can’t be seriously considered, can she?

      • Ani

Sarah Palin would leave Caroline Kennedy in the dust.

        • so saddened

i would like to think so, but i can picture the 2016 versions of matthews and olbermann, etc., talking about how stupid sarah is and how caroline is jfk incarnate, etc., and they’ll sell it just like they sold sanjaya this year.

hope you’re right and i’m wrong!

                I agree!!

The point is that Palin has shown that she understands the separation of church and state.

            Too much.

Hillary ran one of the worst campaigns EVER. Nobody but her destroyed her dream.

            What about personal responsibility?

You need to realize you backed the losing horse. No biggie, just move on and get on with it.

            • http://uppitywoman08.wordpress.com Uppity Woman

Well it’a little hard to win when every time you exhale you are called a racist. It’s also a little hard to win when the other side cheats at caucuses. And it’s even harder to win when you win a state and the opponent manages to glean more delagates even when he lost. See Texas. It’s also a little hard to win when the opponent bribes super delegates and it’s even more difficult to win when you have too much class to expose a piece of shit for what he really is.

                • ellie

For starters, because she received 18 million votes from the American public.

            • standard

Hillary ran the worst campaign ever?
You mean she didn’t steal votes by bussing in operatives from out of state, like Iowa?
She didn’t buy the media into vilifying Obama daily? And trick people into believing Obama was out of the race? The way AP and CNN did to Clinton?
She didn’t run a web campaign that threw off everyone except her own supporters?

Au contraire. Obama ran the worst campaign in U.S. history.

I had just recently resigned myself into liking him. but doubt if that will ever happen if Princess Caroline is coronated Senator.

          • Ani

Caroline is not an effective speaker. That’s just for starters. She’d never get out of the gate. No matter which party.

            • LSekhmet

I don’t see Caroline Kennedy as anything other than a frail, wealthy dilettante.

As for Sen. Clinton, she had to go and earn her seat. She went to the state and campaigned — hard — and won re-election in 2006 because she was a good Senator.

If Caroline K. Schlossberg is appointed, in two years (2010) there will be a special election — and she will be out, because she won’t be a very good Senator because she’s never run for anything and never has had to prove anything other than that she can raise money and look like a Stepford wife on camera while praising Barack H. Obama.

Just say NO to Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg!

            • Always Right

This is an appointment – once in, she won’t be ousted. I don’t think CBK would win the seat – but if she’s appointed, it is pretty difficult to lose as an incumbent.

As a woman, I want a qualified, capable female in the white house. I don’t want a freaking fashion show or a damn cat fight for two years. This is not sane.

    • catherine

I did’nt get that email. I know I won’t be voting for Caroline. If the Kennedys are so petty and mean-spirited to destroy Hillary’s dream you better believe many of us will do everything in our power to keep Caroline from becoming the first female POTUS.

Truth be told after a couple of years of Nobama does anyone believe the country will so readily accept another neophyte celebrity?

The Obama phenomenon will go down in history as a major lesson in mass hysteria.

      • Kal

Hey, no doubt Teddy is still pissed off because he thought that he ought to have gotten the nomination that time, and that it was really unfair to hold his sexual preferences against him. So he’s still acting out his grief over lost entitlement, and that no doubt fuels his desire to trump the Clintons with the Kennedys. Class rules.

        PUMA!!!

  • so saddened

you didn’t miss a thing, uppity.

just change her name to – anything other than kennedy – and a governor would be laughed out of town if he dared put such an unqualified person in a senate seat, especially one from such an important state.

change the party to republican, especially if the person is female, and the ridicule would endless. but dems named kennedy and/or associated with the one don’t have to have qualifications.

first we get sanjaya as president-elect, then we get barbie as ny senator? what’s next – franken “finding” more votes and joining her there?

banana republic isn’t just a store any more, is it?

    • wowo

Funny that’s EGGGZACTLY what people said about Hillary in 1999.

Unbelievable the double standard and sexism right here from the so called PUMA dummies.

      • Nocturnal Warrior

Not even close. Hillary had a pretty strong legal career while First Lady of Arkansas dealing with civic and corporate matters.

She was a legal researcher and Capitol Hill Staffer during Watergate.

And yes she was involved in policy matters during the White House years.

Caroline Kennedy has gone out of her way to stay away from any kind of political involvement beyond the occasional charity cause until Obama.

Hillary was already qualified to hold office when Bill was elected to the White House and most people knew that. It is only in the revisionist Obama world that Obots needing to justify his lack of qualifications that Hillary Clinton was revised to have had no experience prior to joining the Senate.

      • beebop

You may have had your head so far up your ass that you actually missed that she CAMPAIGNED and was ELECTED to her senate seat. Before you shout from the lips, you might want to check your ammo.

I think uppity missed items 6-10:

      6.

      7.

      8.

      9.

      10.

      • oowawa

Yes Bert, but 9. was implied by 4.

  • DisenfranchisedVoter

I felt disgusted when I heard Caroline wanted Hillary’s seat after everything Hillary has gone through. Caroline wants an easy ride just like Obama and it’s disgusting that she’ll probably get what she wants because her last name is Kennedy. I wouldn’t be surprised if 8 years from now she wants to run for president too. If she does, I will officially leave the Democratic Party. Not every minority and not every woman deserves to be in the White House. My support for Hillary does not transfer to Caroline because we all have a vagina. That’s something most Obama supporters don’t understand. My support for Hillary was so strong because I felt Hillary was the most qualified and had worked her ass off to get to her current position along with having to endure the attacks from the media and people in her own party.

The Kennedy family needs to die out because I seriously cannot take their B.S. and feelings of entitlement anymore. I have the greatest respect for JFK and Jackie but they are gone and my respect doesn’t automatically transfer onto their children or relatives.

    • ILBlue

      DisenfranchisedVoter..

Good points. There is no JFK or Bobby anymore.

      • catherine

Exactly! The Kennedy legacy died with RFK. There are NO MORE great Kennedys just a bunch of spoiled rich socialites with a monster size sense of entitlement.

Enough already! I thought the obots said they did’nt want a dynasty …or like all the other lies that come out of their mouth is it case of “do as we say and not as we do”.

        • Kal

Nor is there any ‘Kennedy legacy’ — except of course their personal wealth. If there was a public legacy, we’d know what it is, where to find it, have somebody, maybe the government, in charge of taking care of it, etc.

Don’t forget Kennedy Sr. bought and paid for things just like the Sr. Daley did — we are really looking at the generational face-off between the ruling classes and the working classes, and BO wouldn’t be where he is now if he hadn’t been seen as a good investment to take care of the private legacies, all ’round.

I do hope that his last lucid moment is spent hallucinating that Mary Jo is standing in front of him getting ready to kick his ass downstairs.

If they are giving the seat away give it to Robert Kennedy’s children after the grand insult from Ayer’s dedication to their father’s assassin and calling Sirhan Sirhan a prisoner of war. At least Robert Kennedy’s children supported Clinton and have served the people in public life.

Robert Kennedy’s children should be considered first for the appointment. Caroline can move to Chicago and get appointed to Obama’s old senate seat and she will be closer to Oprah and Ayers.

Now NY will go from a hard working policy wonk Senator to an “entitled” princess who sold out her father’s name for the job now that she felt like “jumping in”. Anybody who remembers JFK knows Barack Obama is no JFK.

OMG Uppity….Thank god for you :)

I is sooo surreal this is even being talked about and that she was involved in Obama’s VP pic at all..OMG OMG , I know I keep repeating OMG but it just boggles my mind so.

I of course like Caroline , I was from that generation that grew up watching her and John John. But John is not here now soooooooo it will be Caroline the one that like her mother shunned the press all these years???

Wasn’t she involved in an art museum or history museum in N.Y. before this election cycle began?

I know, I know she is an attorney and she has done exactly what with that???

I’m just so confused…How about maybe an Ambassitor?? That now makes more sense . But I guess Uncle Tedddy ( who has been more like a Father ) needs someone to follow him but his kids don’t measure up?

    Wow, just Wow!!!

At least Al Franken had to run a campaign, fund raise, and meet up with real voters. And he’d been a Democratic Party activist long before this.

Franken running would be like me running, if I had any money and better health. I know the Democratic Party and I know the voters; I would be able to speak the language; were I elected, I would get results.

I cannot guarantee any results from Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg. She does know the higher-ups in the Democratic Party, but she doesn’t know the rest of us (the “plebes” or “great unwashed”), she does not speak our language, and I remain unconvinced she’d work hard to change the lot of ordinary Americans — especially since she’s apparently not ever met a single one in her entire overprivileged life.

Just say NO to Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg!

  • http://firefox AnnieCollier

Well you are more tolerant than I. I couldn’t stay in the party past this current fiasco.

Caroline Kennedy inheriting a Senate seat is beyond disgusting. I hope to God it doesn’t happen. I also hope you responded to the Hillary email with your opinion of what a disaster this would be. I don’t get their mail…having unsubscribed after the primary.

Camelot was a manufacture of Jackie Kennedy to install the family as royalty. Of course she was cultured and elegant but then a lot of people are. There was no association of Kennedy Camelot before the assassination only in looking backward. She succeeded because the country was in a state of shock and clung to the myth of the good old days. JFK and Jackie were also more a study of style over substance; they weren’t in office long enough to accomplish much. She was not in favor after marrying Aristotle Onassis but regain most of her status after coming back as a divorcee and finding something to do.

Caroline must stop believing the Democrat blather over past glories. Let’s hope if this happens and she does get appointed, a Republican can take it back in 2010.

    • http://firefox AnnieCollier

      make that “regained”…

      • wowo

funny…the dem primary made you forget all about the horrific Bush years, the Tom Delay corruption, and the overall decimation of international law, human rights, and dignity. Now you want more Republicans. lol

        Get a grip.

        • wodiej

no we didn’t forget, that is why we don’t want any more corrupt people in there like Obama….LOL

See, somehow we were expecting better from our side of the aisle. Since when did the Senate become the House of Lords? Didnt we fight a little war to oppose that? hmmmmmmmm

  • Soldier of Christ

I was eleven years old when Kennedy was shot. I remember it was heartbreaking. But, even though John Kennedy was well liked by many it doesn’t mean his daughter can pick up and run the country without experience. The only Kennedy that I would have voted for and liked was John John and unfortunately he is somewhere in a place we don’t know about that exist. So now we see the “paybacks” from Obama. He will go campaign for the last kennedy blood ties and will do everything to make sure he has paid her back in full!. Now, if the republicans are smart, they take that Judge in Fox that ran against Hillary and have her run again- I believe she will prevail. Carolina ill fall flat in her face with debates and especially debating the sexy judge. I don’t know about you guys, but, lately I have been liking the republican label, even after being a democrat for a century. I think it is because I am disgusted with the trashing of our consitution from the Obama camp and attorneys and how the democrats are getting away with murder concerning the BC.

But I am sure there is a telepromptr with her name on it.

If Caroline has inherited any taste or intelligence at all, she will come to see how wrong this is. I would certainly want to know about any conflict of interest with regard to her husband’s business interests. He always stays in the background…would make me nervous.

well like Bill he will let everyone snoop and make sure its all above board right?

  • http://thenewagenda.net/ Woman Voter

I agree 100% with you…Robert Kennedy Jr. should be considered over Caroline Kennedy.

    • ILBlue

Agreed,,,Robert Kennedy Jr.. But he has turned it down twice I beleive?? Sad, I think he is more than qualified.

  • Big Tex

Caroline Kennedy is at least as qualified as Hillary Clinton was when she coasted into office on her husband’s coattails. And Caroline Kennedy has the added virtue of having actually lived in New York for most of her life, which is more than can be said for Hillary the carpetbagge.

    • ILBlue

      Big Tex..

Thank you for your input of CDS.

      • Big Tex

CDS, that’s hilarious. Nevermind that you guys over here in the Larry Johnson bubble are still so addled with blind hatred for Obama that you’ll literally attack anyone who’s even tangentially related to him somehow, and inflate even the slightest offenses to the equivalent of war crimes. A case in point can be found on the frontpage of this blog today – Obama’s speechwriter posts an innocuous photo of himself groping a cardboard cutout of Hillary, and he’s literally being equated with the Taliban and the Nazis by some of you. I’m sure there are probably more than a few of you who are still latching onto the phony “controversy” over Obama’s birth certificate. And I’m the one who’s deranged? LOL!

Newsflash: the rest of us, including Hillary, are preoccupied with the business of straightening this country out. When you’re all through basking in the warmth of your bitter hatred, feel free to join us. Until then, have fun waiting for that Michelle Obama “whitey” tape that will never show up.

        • ILBlue

Big Tex …If your life is soooooo wonderful why come here to wallow in our supposed “hate?”

Just don’t get that, I don’t go to Huffpo or Kos or many other places because they DON”T INTEREST ME , AND I DON”T AGREE WITH THEM. And they are full of Hate.

Don’t think you’ve heard “hate” from me? And with freedom of speech I skip some commments that I don’t agree with. Just like I turned my MSM off my TV in March , You want to be lied to fine I don’t so I turn it off.

So just move on and go back to where ever you came from that made you less miserable ok?

And pray tell what might a hatefilled person like yourself be doing specifically to straighten out this country…besides insulting others on blogs you don’t agree with??? UMMMMMM???????????

        • fif

Yea, you’re such a patriot. Let’s all just ignore the silly violations of our most fundamental democratic principles like voter fraud, suppression and intimdation–not to mention race-baiting, sexism, lies, relentless media propaganda and almost a billion (mostly corporate) dollars that Obama used to get into office. Inspiring indeed. Very noble intentions for our country.

    • catherine

STFU you Clinton bashing troll. Hillary spent 8 years in the WH in which most journalists agree was something akin to a co-presidency.

Even before she met Bill she was already involved in politics and was even an intern for Walter Mondale.

Hillary has EARNED her place. What has Caroline ever earned on her own merit??? EVERYTHING has been given to her because of her family name and wealth.

      • betty

EVERYTHING has been given to her because of her family name and wealth.

And she just accepts it as her due.

Just as Obama accepted the theft of the vote of over 600,000 Michigan voters.

It is just their due, they walk this earth with us but their feet don’t touch the ground.

Wouldn’t you think she would say no? Doesn’t her cousin, RFK’s son want the seat his father once held, why is she taking it from him?

  • Tricia Spiegel

Uppity–you are so funny, but the message is really sad. What happened to PEBO’s promise to pick only qualified people?

    • beebop

By what qualification do you think pebo can recognize qualified people? I mean, he thinks HE’S qualified ….

  • Kal

Hey, Uppity — Hold on a minute here — CK’s got two books, just like BO. So she must be qualified!

Never mind that they are just about as empty as they can get. Here’s the list, plus the collections of poems (from wiki):

‘Kennedy and Ellen Alderman have written two books together on civil liberties:

    * In Our Defense: The Bill of Rights In Action (1990)
    * The Right to Privacy (1995)

On her own, she has edited these New York Times best-selling volumes:

    * A Patriot’s Handbook
    * The Best-Loved Poems of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis
    * A Family of Poems: My Favorite Poetry for Children
    * Profiles in Courage for Our Time
    * A Family Christmas (a collection of poems, prose and personal notes from her family history.

    • Kal

Actually, that last item might actually qualify as a third book, so she beats BO by a book. Or does it count if its factually accurate?

      Just wondering…

      • ILBlue

        Kal..

Of course it counts you have now solver our dilema get rid of BO and let’s have Caroline swear in instead. She definately is more qualified then him. But then so are millions of others.

        • ILBlue

          Solved..

        • /www.youtube.com/watch?v=ibsP6XN2dIo&eurl trixta

Perhaps someone should send Obama’s speech writer, Jon, a life size cut out of Caroline Kennedy to see if she is worthy of his affections.

          • ILBlue

            Trixta..

            LMAO, thank you! :)

          • Kal

Actually, Dakinikat has that and more up over at riverdaughter.

            LOL!!

  • catherine

I agree with most people here that if any Kennedy has a greater claim to that seat it’s RFK jr. who I actually like.

Ted Kennedy has done a hell of a job of dividing the Democratic party first in 1980 and again this year all because he thinks the party belongs to him and his family.

Perhaps his Byzantine intrigues and tactics should be brought right to his door step. If there’s a movement to nominate Caroline then we Pumas should make an active effort to ask Gov. Patterson to nominate RFK jr instead.

I hate to come across as quasi machiavellic but Uncle Teddy has had no scruples about pitting democrat against democrat for close to 30 years. How fitting if we the people returned the favor by pitting Kennedy against Kennedy.

    • ILBlue

      Catherine,

I agree I respect Ted and his loss’s in life regarding his brother’s but I have seen very little he has done to write home about. It hasn’t helped the average masses of Dems..And No Child Left Behind left them all behind.. He was majorly for the Immigration Bill.

Robert Kennedy impresses me, don’t agree with everything but I respect him greatly. He impresses me.

      • http://firefox AnnieCollier

RFK, Jr. at least works at helping solve energy problems and dedicates his life to something that would actually improve the common good. Caroline? Nothing much.

      • ILBlue

        Catherine,

Sorry forgot to mention again I have heard he turned it down both times it has come up. (RFK Jr.) But maybe because he was a STRONG Hillary supporter he feels he wouldn’t be considered with the way Obama has gone after those in the Dem Party that supported Hillary first.

SO don’t know if he’s interested but If I lived in N.Y I would like to see it be him. He knows his stuff to put it bluntly.

Caroline supported Obama because her “KIDS” told her to??? ( And I’m sure Uncle Teddy )

        • catherine

I thought it was because ..according to Caroline anyway…Obama reminded her so much of her father which I think is frankly ..well bizarre.

She was 6 years old when he was assassinated. Her only memories of him would be as her daddy not as a president so that comparison is simply not believable. Physically JFK looks nothing like Obama.

I tend to suspect it was uncle Teddy who told her for whom to come out and support. This was the Monday after Hillary made the historically accurate MLK/LBJ comment and Teddy had a meltdown over it.

  • Country First

Hmm.. I wonder if Caroline could pass the Civics test:
(a good score might disqualify her)

    http://www.cnsnews.com/public/content/article.aspx?RsrcID=39715

  • Kal

I don’t know. As a self-respecting PUMA, I’m not sure I want to go to bat for the least-worst dynastic pick. There’s something wrong with that. I backed Hillary because she is obviously actually brilliant and would be the best president ever, and knows the meaning of hard work and (apparent) integrity, commitment, etc. That K gang hasn’t ever really earned it in any way at all. I prefer seeing if there is a real Hillary successor somewhere in NY.

Btw, CK seems to have been a Hillary supporter long before she was a BO supporter, so I don’t know what her funny uncle did to arrange the switch or what, but I am pleased at that little point. I think…

    • catherine

You missed my point which was since Ted has fomented divisions in the party for the sake of his family’s legacy and is trying to pull this crap with Caroline than it would be truly priceless and karmic to bring that division right BACK at him.

      • Kal

Except that to do that, we’d have to end up with one bit of the dynasty or the other. This might be a situation of the cure is worse than the disease, or something.

How about actual on-the-ground merit for a change?

I guess we are heading towards a system that values some thing other than earning it or recognizing hard work. It really should go to one of one of the current congress persons in the State of New York.

It looks too much like payola…and it just doesn’t feel good.

    • Kal

Or to somebody with a great track record and lots of potential.

The concentration of wealth under Bush has not helped this situation — private wealth is now able to buy and sell anything it wants, including the presidency and all the perks that go along with it, like senatorial appointments, etc.

      • http://thenewagenda.net/ Woman Voter

        Kal,

You hit it on the nail!

  • tillthen

One of the posters under the NY Post article covering this suggests that the purpose of the item was to gauge enthusiasm for her as Senator. If that indeed is the case, they are getting a clear answer. If the posts are a clear indication of the general populace, she should consider a job at Macy’s. Not going over well.

    • http://helpmejoseph.typepad.com/puma_for_life/ Puma for LIfe

Actually, that is what I was thinking. That this is a trial balloon to see how people would react. I for one am sick and tired of Ted Kennedy. He is and always has been the least intelligent and least moral of all of the brothers. This move to put Princess Caroline into the senate disgusts and infuriates me. Ted thinks he is the King of the USA. I was a huge fan of John and Bobby, as well as MLK, but I think they all are rolling over in their grave over the antics going on right now.

  • wodiej

I got one you left out Uppity….she’s a Kennedy

  • NCgirl

It is often not “what” you know but “who”" you know, isn’t it? Caroline Kennedy’s claim to fame is her family tree not her actual work experience. She will probably be handed Hillary’s senate seat just because she is JFK’s little girl. It will be a disservice to the people of the state of NY and an insult to Hillary who worked her behind off in public service, all her adult life, to get elected.

  • NomNomNom

She’s got a vagina, what more do you b#tches want? She even had her own pony, Macaroni!
I think BHO should name his new dog Macaroni, very patriotic.

  • beachnan

Not that I trust anything Andrea Mitchell has to say, but this morning she was saying that it was Caroline who was so excited about Obama, and she was the one who insisted Uncle Teddy back. BTW, my husband had the news on, I refuse to listen to that station. If it was Caroline who went to Ted and inspired him to back Obama, then she has disqualified herself, due to her poor judgement.

  • Citizen70

Apparently the reason for Paterson to appoint Caroline is the almighty dollars she would bring in to the party due to her celebrity status. That, of course, is more important than her ability to serve the citizens. Let’s hope Gov. Paterson is a stand-up guy and does the right thing.

  • Nocturnal Warrior

The interesting thing is, is that at the end of the day the decision is David Patterson’s and not Barack Obama’s.

It is in Patterson’s best interests to get Andrew Cuomo out of Albany. He is a potential rival for the nomination for Governor in two years and his power in the Attorney General’s office can make life miserable for Patterson’s friends. Remember Cuomo’s office went right after Spitzer with the whole investigation into the Governor’s staff looking into the helicopter use of the Republican Senate Majority Leader in NY. Patterson doesn’t need those headaches.

If he turns to Kennedy, it means Obama is making him some kind of big promise. I hope Patterson checks in with Bill Richardson and John Kerry to see just how much those promises are worth.

  • noquarterfails

Hillary’s qualifications were…oh right, she was First Lady. Don’t act like Caroline got special favors because of her name and Hillary didn’t.

    • pm317

Hillary had to run a campaign to win. She was first lady but had her own set of legislative priorities on which I am sure she advised her husband, the president. She definitely was an advocate for many issues of the day. Don’t show your ignorance here. Show me one thing Caroline has accomplished? Oh right, you have no problem voting for people who are not accomplished.

The Repugs, who originally adored her, immediately started a campaign of vilification.
The fact is, she is the first first lady to stick her neck out to champion a great cause. She beat Michael Moore by a decade.
Even the NYT admits that Clinton was a workhorse in the Senate.

    • Lauraks

I suppose going to every county in NY campaigning and producing for the people of NY is to be negated, of course. Do you live in NY or have family there? Oh and by the way I lived there for decades and many family members still do. Hillary is highly respected there. Your talking ponts are ridiculous on their face.

Caroline Kennedy is a socialite! Get real.No question a well educated one because her mother would have abided nothing less but her life has been a study in entitlement.By default as a result of her brother’s tragic death and her uncle’s illness she is to carry the banner for the family.Conveniently her being the one has been determined without regard to the voters.

      You are a bore.

    • fif

Another ignorant Obot statement. As I stated above, please read something before displaying your obvious lack of research. Hillary has been actively engaged in substantial public service in the areas of children & women’s rights, disability benefits, health care, education, economic development in rural communities, human and civil rights and traveled to over 80 countries. You have been drinking deeply from the Kool Aid vat–unfortunately, your regurgitation of propaganda talking points has nothing to do with the facts. Obama said her foreign policy work amounted to tea parties despite confirmation of her critical work in Ireland by the leaders of the peace movement there (John Hume, Gerry Adams, George Mitchell et. al.) If she is so unqualified, what does it say about his judgment in appointing her? Tiresome ignorance.

  • pm317

The sense of entitlement here takes my breath away. So what is she going to bring to the table other than her name. Has she been an advote for anything? An aristocrat and an occasional writer (not even writing original stuff) waltzes in to have a glorified retirement after all children are grown up. What has the great society become? It is no longer about fairness, justice, honor, statesmanship, work ethic, and accomplishments.

    • beebop

noquarterfails- what part of Hillary running for the seat and winning it do you not understand??

    • fif

Twice. The second time she won it by 67%. All the usual HRC stereotypes were trotted out by the haters when she ran the first time. She went to every county in NY, repeatedly. I am a New York resident, and Upstate is quite conservative. She won many people over, as she always does, with her intelligence, dedication, work ethic, and results. But why let pesky facts and reality get in the way when you can live in an escapist fantasy called Obamaland and dream of a return to the never-existing Camelot? This country is on a crash course due to this insistent immaturity and narcissism.

  • AF catfish

I too am miffed that Caroline Kennedy wants this seat. She has every right to compete for it, however, as I would love to see Chelsea Clinton run for office some day. But to have a Senate seat handed to her would invite a sexist backlash.

So here are some alternative suggestions: N.Y. Representative Carolyne Maloney. N.Y. Representative Kirsten Gillibrand. What about Louise Slaughter?

    • fif

Gillibrand is fantastic. I have met her, and she just won re-election in the 20th District due to her effective, independent and intelligent representation. She voted against the bail out TWICE because it lacked oversight. She follows her instincts, does diligent research and votes courageously.

But why let something like actual experience enter into it? This is what happens with the lowering of standards. First, the exception is made for “this guy,” and then it becomes the norm. I am still stunned that Obama, with 200 days in the Senate, and minimal accomplishments, executive or foreign policy experience was even considered for president, let alone won. This celebrity-obsessed, money-worshiping culture is imploding. Would you hire such inexperienced candidates to run your multi-national corporation? It’s patently absurd. I will be furious if they hand this to Kennedy when there are qualified, deserving candidates waiting in line. She should be embarrassed to even take the position. I lost a lot of respect for her when she said she was endorsing Obama “because her kids are excited about him.” Paterson was NOT elected either. He is there due to Spitzer’s self-destruction. If he makes such a blatant nepotistic display, it will backfire. Upstate is very conservative, and they will be furious if he installs a Kennedy without their vote. Good luck with that come re-election time.

The biggest problem with Caroline Kennedy waltzing in to
      take Clinton’s seat:

It will re-open wounds among Clinton supporters
that are finally starting to heal.

To truck Ted’s niece to take her senate seat adds insult to
injury. It would be the last splash of acid in the faces of

Caroline has unlimited wealth. Surely she can buy
herself another hobby besides a senate seat that she has
      not earned.

      • Kal

Right. She ought to take the ambassadorship to the UK, where she can socialize to the hilt. Now that’s a job she is qualified for, no foreign affairs experience necessary. (Unless, of course, some sort of serious issue might come up. Remember all the real work Wolf Ischinger (now Germ ambass. to UK) had to do at the beginning of the Iraq occupation, when he was Germ ambass. to the US?)

You asked us to let you know if you missed anything in your blog…………….

    You missed nothing…………….

The Caroline Kennedy rise to take Hillary’s seat has been in the making from day one.

Onama only picked Hillary for SOS so Caroline could become the NY Senator. Then, Obama will do as he pleases with Hillary.

Hillary is smart to keep her seat until she is confirmed.

Hillary would be even smarter to stay a US Senator and when that Ted Kennedy kicks the bucket, let Caroline take HIS seat.

Obama is going to crash and burn. He is in a lose lose position.

Hillary would be smart to keep her US Senate seat and stay as far away from Obama as possible.

Matter of fact a petition should get started to encourage her to stay a US Senator.

We all know OBama is going to fire her after the first few months as SOS and then where will she be?

Caroline cannot speak in public. Every other word is umm…………………………………

If she is entitled, let her wait til uncle Ted kicks the bucket, now that sounds fair to me.

    • beebop

Ted Kennedy kicks the bucket, let Caroline take HIS seat.

Apparently the widow Kennedy has aspirations of her own. Can it be long before the US Senate resembles the house of Lords?

      • Kal

And anyway, can CK claim Mass residency without having to actually go live on that island? Its pretty cold and lonely out there in the winter, no wonder the Aboriginal owners didn’t really want it….

    • Connie

Yes, a petition should start for Hillary to stay in her Senate seat. I have a feeling that Obama has something up his sleeve.

      • LSekhmet

I agree. But it’s up to Sen. Clinton what she does.

Personally, I think she should stay a Senator and wait for the various court cases to play out.

  • ranger

    I have an idea.

Lets petition Caroline to be an intern for uncle Ted and then when HE kicks the bucket, she can have HIS seat.

How bout we float that balloon back up to match her balloon and see what she thinks about that.

Uncle Ted’s position is perfect for her. Why is he sending her to Hillary’s position? He knows He is going to kick the bucket soon, so he might as well prep her for his seat.

Fly the Balloon Teddy steps down and Caroline replaces HIM! That is more appropriate!

  • http://www.cafepress.com/pumapride John House

Oh, how cute. First the Otrons were bitching and moaning about how they needed to get rid of “dynasties” in Washington–like the Bushes and Clintons–and that was one of their huge reasons for shoving Bambi down our throats. Now the Otrons want to usurp JFK’s legacy and transplant his political soul into Bambi and resurrect Camelot with Caroline?

Sorry. No go. For me, at least. The sad thing is is that the American people–meaning the stupid young ones that helped vote this bastard in–would totally go for an idea like this because ZOMG JFK WUZ SO COOL!11

Give me a damned break. Might as well f***ing run Britney Spears on the Republican ticket in 2016 because maybe she’d have a chance of winning. We are truly, TRULY turning into the world that was depicted in Mike Judge’s movie, Idiocracy.

New yorkers are tired of having only one Senator While all the other states have two and Arkansas has had three.

As an “Up Stater” I can assure you that there is always talk of succeeding from “Down State”.

Up State has not had Senate Representation since Keating from Buffalo, who was defeated for a second term by Mass. Carpetbagger Bobby Kennedy in 1964.

Bobby and Hillary both promised New Yorkers that they would not use the Senate Seat from N.Y. to run for President.

I don’t know any one who believed either one of them.

Bobby broke that promise in 1968 and Hillary did the same 40 years later in 1908.

Upstaters want the Mayor of Buffalo appointed to the seat.

If Caroline Kennedy gets the appointment there will be an open revolt in Upstate and David Paterson, who is rally liked, will not be reelected in 2010, nor will Kennedy.

    • standard

I thought up staters liked Carolyn Malone. She has accomplished a lot in Congress.

No, I think when they said another Kennedy in the WH, they meant she will get the senate job for x amount of years and then run with Obama as VP in 2012 and then 2016, she will run against Palin. Gee, I guess this year is the year I became a republican!

  • standard

Email Ny Gov Patterson and give him your thoughts.

The NY chapter of NOW is pushing Carolyn Maloney.
    She looks qualified and excellent.

Didn’t the media screech for the last several years about Bush giving all his jobs to cronies instead of qualified people? Remember “heckuvajob Brownie”?

What’s the difference? She has no political experience. She’s led an exclusive, pampered, protected life. What does she know about whats good for the average new yorker? What’s next, ambassadorships for obamas movie star supporters?

  • Judy L. NC

I hear Caroline is a good mother.

    • DisenfranchisedVoter

And Obama is supposedly a good father. When did being a good parent prepare you for the Senate or presidency? Are they that rare these days?

    • beebop

So is Sarah Palin. She’d do a better job for New Yorkers.

  • Galt

P.S. Somehow, they will say that Caroline is no different than Hillary. I give it 24 hours.

You need to re-tune your stinkometer I think we see that happening already.

What is ironic to me is in order to make the two equals, they end up having to put down Hillary. That’s problematic I would think, considering her appointment as SoS. But since when does logic mean anything anymore? I wish folks luck dancing on a knife’s edge who will make the comparison.

I wish people would just be honest. Someone could be getting a gift as payback. That’s just what happens. Rank has its privileges. I guess I am not very much into parsing the truth to justify a position. To be clear, I do not support the notion of favoritism, but I call em as I see em.

Even though I live in Pennsylvania and not New York, I humbly submit that even I am more qualified than CK to be the junior senator from NY. Other than suffering terrible tragedies in her life which were horrible indeed, I can not think of ONE reason why she should even be considered for this job. She has no political experience only name recognition.
I fondly remember she and her brother romping on the White House lawn and playing in the Oval Office. She would do well to let the nation cherish these sweet memories of her family in Camelot and not tranish her place in history by being appointed to Hillary’s seat. She simply doesn’t deserve the job. She should EARN/RUN for a political office–get some experience and see where it goes.

This is a situation of the blow hard Ted Kennedy, and Obama pushing her in to this.

She however is a big girl. She, however, is one of those who never leaves their house kind of people or something like that……the kind that are scared of the world outside.

She has lived a very lonely and protected life. She has lived under the Kennedy curse as they called it.

Now, she has been drinking too much Obama Koolaid, and maybe even has something going on with him, or she has a thing for him that she would drop her sociopathic fears of the outside world and change her complete world and become his private counselor on VP, when anyone could have picked Biden.

She just wanted to be close to THE ONE. THE ONE is telling her to do this as is her fucking blow hard fucked up uncle.

She would do well to go back into her private world and live because she will be mocked and brutally shunned by the new world that she has never been a part of politically. This new political world does not know anything about her.

Caroline, go back in to your hole because you will not be able to stand up to the fact that nobody cares about your name or you. In fact, your name, Caroline, will probably hurt your chances as a politician.

I hope she has sense enough to read the anti blogs about her as well as the pro blogs about her if there are any pro blogs.

She probably does not even have that political sense.

  • lightacandle

Caroline has the ONLY “qualification” that matters these days.

    She supported Obama.

And Gov. Paterson (wanting to please Obama in the worst way) will probably appoint this un-qualified person to an office for which there are thousands of more qualified people in New York.

    It’s “suck-up” time, folks.

  • No Koolaid

    Right on target Uppity.

  • Regina

As a past Hillary supporter I am annoyed that Caroline Kennedy will be considered to replace Sen Clinton in the senate. The Kennedys lost their moral compass with Caroline’s endorsement and continued support of Obama. She is no JFK or RFK…..she should stick to reading her mothers favorite poems and her father’s christmas memories.

  • Kiyoshi

And we thought Sarah Palin had no experience. Caroline Kennedy? I think she published a book of poems or something…yeah that will help! lol

What a load of sexist BS is posted here. Nasty, ugly, hateful BS.

The qualifications are quite simple and are stated in the Constitution, you remember that arcane, outdated document don’t you?

    They are:
You must be at least at the age of 30 years old, and you must have been a U.S. citizens for at least 9 years.Resident of the state he/she will represent.

Last I checked she was all three of those.

  • Joe

    Good day all,
Can someone show me the qualifications that Mr. Schwarzenneger were before he became Gov of California? Is there a double standard here? Do you view the electorate of California poorly for believing that someone with his level of experience could be a good governor? Hasn’t he performed well?

How about the fine line between “experienced” and “elite”? If a person that you don’t like has experience, they’re either “elitist” or and “insider”. If not, then they’re under qualified. It’s a junior senate seat, folks. If you’re not a resident of NY, sit back and watch. As one said before, she meets the Constitutional requirements. She may not be a good senator, but only time will tell on tnat one. Can you say that all of your political choices have been correct?
