CG’s Friends & Open Thread

“Ginger the golden retriever and Ace the gray cat from a week or so ago,” writes CG.

“Hope Larry is doing alright after the loss of his puppy.” – CG

I love that photo, CG.

And, now, an open thread!

Now that is sweet! Drinking out of the same bowl…haha, beautiful animals too. thanks for sharing.

  • stodgie

what an endearing photo! you should get it framed! take lots of phots. down the road they’ll mean a lot.

  • workingclass artist

I have to tell you this photo threw me for a loop. I have a Golden named Harry…and I used to have a couple of happy Gray Fat Brothers who used to love keeping the Dog in his place…chuckle…Despite Harry’s petitions those two never let him in the “club”…What a great photo. Mustard & Ketchup the Cats are gone now…and My daughter ( she named them at three ) & I still trade stories of these two Cats and the Puppy that wanted to be a cat…We even wrote a story about it…Thanks I’m sending a link to the kid so she can see the photo…

  • I’m a Linda too

CG, how precious. Thank you for sharing. Your Ginger looks like my Irish Setter, Kojak. And Ace looks like my sister’s cat Ashely.

    …auuhhh, memories. :)

There’s a lesson in that photo. If dog and cat can drink from the same bowl… can’t we as Americans come together and support our new president?

    :-)

  • I’m a Linda too

This is America. He will get the same kind of support as our current president.

Right. Like the last one who stole the election.

In our family the dog looks at the cat as another chew toy. But then the cat has his moments too as he will pounce on the dog for no apparent reason. The Christmas tree has come down and a smaller fiber optic one put up in its place because of their shenanigans. The cat can’t climb the fiber optic tree (yet) and tease the dog.

  • oowawa

I don’t want to start any arguments, because to dog owners, whatever breed or mixed breed they have and love is “the best.” But golden retrievers are indeed very special animals: kind, gentle, and intelligent. And you see their wonderful dispositions immediately in their eyes.

  • jbjd

Yes; just as soon as we elect one!

  • Maria3

    They are very beautiful animals:)

    Thank you for sharing.

Ace has to be the most apt of all names for a cat.

  • lute

Our small dog was gulped down by coyotes many years ago. She was such a force that I haven’t had the heart to replace her.

  • wodiej

you’re comparing Obama to a cat and dog drinking out of the same waterbowl? No wonder you all don’t care what kind of person he is.

UBM: Considering that we’d all like to take a break from the election, really…must you? I understand you like this site. If you really do, why not expand your interests and join the conversation about…dogs. Or cats. Or squirrels. Or whatever. Anything that doesn’t include comments about your favorite topic. It might lead us to think that you are a one trick pony…pun intended.

  • wodiej

omg….that’s awful. sorry to hear about that. I have a 6 pound yorkie, I keep a close eye on her.

  • http://firefox AnnieCollier

I know how you feel. My cat, Golda Meow-err, found the same fate. Her companion, a darling terrier mutt lived a long life though. I haven’t been able to replace either of them although lately I’ve been searching the French Bulldog rescue sites. I’m thinking a little beige one needing a devoted companion…me.

What a great picture, sweet friends. BEautiful four-legged family there. Thanks for sharing the photo.

  • Mirlo

I really enjoyed this amazing picture, thank you for sharing it. What a pair they are! Our ginger cat “Max” always comes along on long walks with the dog.

All dogs are great especially if they are well trained and well adjusted…imho…
When I was searching for the best Dog for my slightly rambunctious 7 year old I found that the safest dog ( in terms of bred disposition ) to have around small children and elderly folks was #1. A Newfoundland. #2. A Golden Retriever ( From a responsible breeder as there has been inbreeding which happens every time there is a popular movie )
I wanted her first DOG to be a puppy so she could learn the basics of training from the start. I found him from a farm with 3 Dams each bred once a year because the owner just loves the breed. His Mother was a very red Hunting Trial Golden being retired after her final litter and the Sire was a competitive Field Trial Golden from the neighboring farm. Harry was the runt and like most runts he has the sweetest temperment. ( If he was not chosen she was going to keep him because he was so sweet and the only one who looked like the Dam ) The breeder had me sign a pledge not to breed Harry except through her and an organization trying to stop some of the problems inbreeding has caused. She was a great advocate for the breed and careful about the owners. She had records and references and I went to see the Vet before the deal was done.If I ever won the lottery I would love to do what she does on that small farm…They were the happiest dogs I have ever seen…And we have been so lucky to have such a healthy and wonderful DOG…

    Hello Beebop,
Just wanted to let you know that I have really enjoyed your resolve lately. You have reminded me of what this fight is all about. Sometimes I’m more concerned with my workers on the line and keeping them from getting laid off…
However, my other main issue is advancing Women’s rights as my company is living proof that if you hire women based on the merits and let them lead without the constant double standard then you will prosper.
I listened to you yesterday after you made your points and then decided that you were correct. That is how my plant manager works with me.

  • Dawnelle

That’s so cute. I think your my cat LOGAN
is leading a double life over at your place!!
But she always comes back to her man FIGARO

  • Dawnelle

unless Atreyu is in the way!!

    THEN it gets interesting!! :-?

    typos pardon

    Happy Holidaze!

  • Dawnelle

Hmm one more time for sexy Figaro! LOL

  • http://uppitywoman08.wordpress.com Uppity Woman

I have a big grey cat too. My dog and he are best buddies. It’s sad to watch my dog whine when she can’t find her cat. The cat Rules though, which is kind of funny because the dog is five times his size. It’s sweet to watch though.

  • Linda C.

Growing up we had a cat and dog, Sam and Charley. They were both black and white. When they slept together it was just a big mound of black and white fur.

There is nothing like a golden though. I had one named Nala, lost her to cancer. She loved tomatoes.

  • CG

Funny about Figaro and Atreyu (distinctively handsome)…
Not pictured is my other cat CouCou that looks very much like Figaro…

I had a Wesite that loved raw carrot and cucumber!!

and would bark at the moon running round on his back legs~~
Also thought he could walk on water when we had the swimming pool put in LOL

  • http://truthisgold.blogspot.com truthisgold

lute, my heart stopped when I read about your small baby dog. I have two golden retrievers and I am afraid to go in the woods alone with them — one is very old and the other is very small for a golden –neither of them would have a chance against hungry coyotes.

I lost my big boy Teddy 3 yrs ago and still have not gotten over his passing. I never went anywhere without him and he was truly a soulmate. [His picture is on the banner at my truthisgold.wordpress blog].

Now that we have a minute to take a breath from politics [but no more than that!] it IS nice to talk about something, especially something as wonderful as golden retrievers [or any dog!].

So nice to know there are so many dog lovers in the world, and so many of them golden people!

  • http://truthisgold.blogspot.com truthisgold

CG, thanks so much for sharing this. It makes my broken heart happy to see it. This election has taken more out of me than I could ever have imagined…it’s wonderful to see something that makes me smile. I have 2 goldens and couldn’t live without them. It is they who keep me grounded when I feel like we’re falling off the face of the earth from all the toxins of the election.

    Thx again.

  • beebop

Hey Seattle! Thanks for the shout out. I always find such a reasoned approach in your posts that I come around to your point of view. In the case of the little cretin and the HRC cutout, it was a case of allowing one more of the death by a thousand cuts to go without protest. I guess when we have life sized cut outs of Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg, groping a woman’s breasts will be verboten?

Annie, although one can never really get past the devastation of loss, it is greatly assauged by giving love to another being. I take breeding retirees who have done their part by producing beautiful puppies from a respected breeder, and the joy they produce in letting us watch them revel in cosseted retirement is beyond words. Their devotion is touching and few things are more fun than to teach a working animal the joys of being a coddled member of the family! I encourage you to adopt!

  • Karma

Love the animal photos and the stories about fuzzy ones.

    Thanks everyone!

    HI!

    Viele gruesse

    Doris
