The first ever rocker!

With this video – my latest salvo in the battle to save western civilization from the chaos of utter darkness – I not only reveal the name of the composer in seventh place on the list of the greatest composers of all time, but also the guy who wrote the first-ever rock song.

You will be the first on your block to discover his identity, so you will have bragging rights and the chance to impress people at cocktail parties with your special knowledge of such arcane facts.

In a day or two I will be uploading a separate video on my Youtube channel of an extended version of the first-ever rock song, with footage of rockers playing air mandolin as accompaniment.

Just remember who brought you these nuggets of never-before-told information and be suitably grateful! Thank you.

Thank you! Wonderful. I am so enjoying this series!

  • William L. Donlon

    Thank You!

    Great Series!

Did you say Vivaldi stood between the great Classical composer and Barak music?

I’m sorry, I knew you meant baroque music but I just couldn’t resist.

That was fascinating and extremely well done. You really should package this up and sell it. When I was very young I was fortunate enough to have my parents take me to those Leonard Bernstein concerts for young people. There is not much for young people out there to understand the classical composers.

Nice choice, cool series. Good way to start the week.

    Air Mandolin. ROFL.

  • oowawa

Thank you Old Grumpy for this installment. For once I have nothing snarky to say about your choice: Vivaldi definitely belongs in the top ten. I was also pleased that you included footage of the great AA (Asian-American) air guitarist, C Diddy. I do doubt that Vivaldi was the first rocker, but I admit that the example you provide is compelling. I actually think that some tribes in prehistoric Africa, or a didgeridoo chamber orchestra in the Aussie outback, might have predated Vivaldi. But nevertheless, good job!

“I actually think that some tribes in prehistoric Africa, or a didgeridoo chamber orchestra in the Aussie outback, might have predated Vivaldi. But nevertheless, good job!”

What did they use as string instruments?

Really, oowawa. After promising not to say anything snarky this time, you then doubt me about Vivaldi being the first rocker. Oh ye whited sepulchers who speak so falsely! That’s the gratitude I get for imparting such important information. (Sigh). Ah well, it is inevitable that some of my pearls will…let me think about this…will fall upon stony ground. (I know it’s a mixed metaphor, but better and more accurate than an unmixed one).

  • shinglefiddle

How old are you guys? LOL!

  • oowawa

I’m going to get myself in trouble for polluting another one of OGG’s enlightening posts, but I would suggest R&R doesn’t need strings–I picture a line of didge rockers lined up swaying back and forth in unison, honking on like Little Richard’s early band . . . I think I’ll shut up now . . .

  • oowawa

Well, I may not be as senior as OGG, but I’m more or less as old as dirt.

  • Soldier of Christ

    Ha!Ha! And on another note:
Gutless Supreme Court and Factcheck.org- up Obama’s ass groupies.Boy- how millions dollars can do the talking!

In year 2010- people will finally find out about this BC- and we hope that All of Factcheck employees get their reputation destroyed in front of Congress and also everybody that had something to do with the “famous designing of his famous BC.” We hope that Birthgate- as they are calling it today- will spin out of control and hang everybody who had a hand in it!

As interesting and enjoyable as your series is, I keep trying to find the over arching theme. In your first post and video you talked about the Emperor’s Clothing (or lack there of) Syndrome which you said was a sickness in society that showed its ugliest side in this most recent U.S. election.

Numbers 10 and 11 (Strauss and Wagner) both had Nazi connections. So I thought I detected a pattern. But then you threw me with Gershwin. And now Vivaldi deepens the mystery.

This is like trying to unravel a well-written murder mystery novel (P.D. James writes the best ones) with music on the side. I look forward to number 6 on your list and to trying to unravel how all this ties into today’s society and matters here at NQ.

  • http://firefox AnnieCollier

That was great! Thanks, OGG. How did I miss the first posts? You must have started them during my hiatus…anyone…links?

  • oowawa

Annie, if you click on the “Old Grumpy Guy” link below “The First Ever Rocker” headline at the top of the page, you get a list of links to his previous posts.

  • Galt Pizza Parlor

I look forward to number 6 on your list and to trying to unravel how all this ties into today’s society and matters here at NQ.

Hey bert I can’t speak for OGG nor the blog admin but can say this: NQ does not tell us what to write. I know this since I am now an author here. I am unaware of any guidelines. This is one main reason I am an author here and not somewhere else right now.

This is my personal theory based on observations here: there was a theme for sure during the election because that was what was on people’s minds. I am unsure whether or not I could have written my used car story back then, but I think so. :)

  • CenralMass

Old Grump Guy I can indeed see and feel the light. Thank you, great stuff.

  • bert

Hi Galt. If you read the first of OGG’s series, he writes of this himself. So I was basically just quoting him and what he would try to do with this series. But the music is great even if there was no other purpose.

  • http://firefox AnnieCollier

    Thanks!

  • Old Grumpy Guy

I’m thinking of re-doing some of the early visuals (the ones illustrating the music; I have tried a new approach in the later vids) and packaging them as a 2DVD set in High Definition widescreen DVD.

  • Old Grumpy Guy

You can get to my Youtube by clicking on this link, Annie.

  • Old Grumpy Guy

I’m glad somebody is seeing and feeling it! Now if I could see and feel it too, that would be a good thing.

  • Old Grumpy Guy

Bert, everything is connected. As I state in the introduction to this video (above): QUOTE: This is my latest salvo in the battle to save western civilization from the chaos of utter darkness. UNQUOTE But I will be doing a wrap-up later on (after a vid about the close contenders) about the way the Emperor’s Clothing Syndrome has been running riot over the past half century at least (in other areas as well as music).

    Four Seasons. Springtime. by Vivaldi.

I always wondered what that song was. You always hear them and know how they go, but have no idea what the title is or who composed them.

    Thanks alot, Looney Toons.

  • Old Grumpy Guy

Looney Toons? What on earth do you mean by that?

  • TeakWoodKite

    Well Done Grumpy Old Guy.

I started arranging, in my head, the mandalin piece and am playing an “unplugged” , big band, or 5 piece rock ….then I heard hillbilly and southern as well.

Ah well, lets hope the arts don’t go the way of figured bass.

Very well done. Every music all the time!

  • galt

    Ah ok. :)

  • TeakWoodKite

I would also add that Vivaldi was also a blues master.

Vivaldi – Cello Sonata in E Minor

  • AnnieO

    I absolutely love these videos!

Just trying to keep track of where we are:
    10. Strauss (Richard, pronouced Rickard but never Dick) LOL!
    9. Wagner
    8. Vivaldi

    Can’t wait for #7!

  • AnnieO

    Oh, wait, I missed Gershwin!

  • OldGrumpyGuy

No, you missed Gershwin at number 8. Vivaldi is number seven.

  • socalannie

God, that was beautiful. I love the Four Seasons, loved the art, photos…well, not the air guitarists…but this is my favorite so far of the series. Well done, Your Grumpiness! Eagerly awaiting No. 6.

  • galt

OGG, I think they might be referring to your mention of Bugs Bunny (a Loony Tunes character) in your Wagner article, of your composer’s series. That’s how I interpreted it.

  • Sonic Ninja Kitty

Don’t forget, this series also ties into the Beast That Shall Not Be Named.

  • Karma

I just started your series and wanted to say what a great job you’ve done.

You are the perfect host…looking forward to the rest.

    Thanks.
