Boobo Favreau, Obama’s Clown

I was 27 once. Sure, I was not anywhere near the big leagues, but I took what I was doing seriously–teaching. I had a responsibility to a profession, to a university, and ultimately to myself as a role model for students. Some of my childish habits and behaviors had to be put away forever.

Fast forward to now and to John Favreau, age 27. You have likely already seen the photo of him and another bopper on Obama’s staff (we know that because it is printed on his tee-shirt). A stand-up of our next Secretary of State is being disrespectfully manhandled, with Favreau groping her breast. Big shit-eating grin on his face. (If you haven’t taken a look, go to LisaB’s article here here .)

Boys being boys? Sure, if you are 21 and your profession is bouncing for a strip mall bar.

But what if your job is to write the words that come out of the mouth of the President of the United States?

If this guy is allowed to stay on the job, every time I watch our new President give a speech, this image of the John Favreau will pop right into my mind. Any meaning those words intended will be demoted to, well, nothing, nada, zip. Just words written by a sexist guy who can’t grow up.

“Just words written by a sexist guy who can’t grow up.”

…for a sexist guy who can’t grow up.

  • socalannie

Excellent job Pat! Love the cartoon & the post. Thanks NQ for giving this disgusting incident all the coverage it deserved! I can’t believe this creep hasn’t been fired. Obama is showing a huge lack of respect for the Office of President if he keeps this guy.

  • Seattle Moss

    Hello Pat,
    Nice juggling there!
You would think that a guy as lucky as Favreau being so close to the president select would be more mature and responsible and have the sensitivity for all people especially women.
This event really does reflect badly on the New Democrats that Obama has brought into the party and their complete lack of respect, class and manners.

  • http://deleted Buzz Latte

This is why no little indigo child should have such power as Favreau. They aren’t mature enough to understand the depth of the job and what is required from a personal behavior standpoint.

Agreed> Favreau should go bye-bye because he’s already proven to be unfit for the job.

  • TeakWoodKite

Thanks Pat for solidifying the image forever on my brain. Now I won’t be able to look at Obama without that in my head. It must be contagious! :)

    Great clown!

  • wodiej

This pukeface needs to go learn some respect and manners. Another indication Obama is unfit and lacks judgment. Any respectable, mature leader w any brains would have spoken out about this and fired the creep.

Fire this creep and be done with it.

Won’t happen. Sexists pigs hang around with sexists pigs.

Can you people please get a life? This is nothing, just some yucking it up. Yeah, it’s a little ironic to know that this is a guy who puts such high-flying words in Obama’s mouth, but who doesn’t know that politicians (and people in general) are often cruder in private than in public? How much did Obama smoke in public during the campaign? Give the dude a break!

Give the dude a break? Are you serious?

See that’s where we silly women tend to go off the rails. Some of us don’t think that stupid frat boy type sexist behavior is just fine and dandy. Some of us find it offensive. Some of us even think that the jerk who is putting words in the mouth of the next president of the United States should be above that sort of thing.

He was just having fun? That kind of tasteless “fun” is beneath the dignity and integrity of what he does for a living.

I know we have become a society with little class but this is both sexist and tacky. The “Dude” should be out of work. That he isn’t only shows that his “boss” finds nothing wrong with what he did. That shows how ill equipped his boss is to be the president of the United States. We’ve got a pinheaded frat boy in the office now. God help us all we’re about to get another.

  • bart

I guess it was “just words” when BO says that HRC will make a good SOS. “Crude in private” means using blue language out of public, belching out loud, farting on the couch, etc. Mocking an important person on YOUR foreign policy team and posting it to Facebook for a giggle is not crude, it’s stupid and juvenile. Just the qualities one wants in a chief speechwriter, no?

    Facebook Favreau

  • bert

Another great cartoon, Pat. And I love the name Boobo. So very apt!

  • Harley Rider

Everyone is missing the point. Favreau mixed up the Hopy, Dopy, Changy Kool-Aid that put Obama in office. Obama still needs him and will always need him..gotta have the words…therefore, Favreau will NEVER be thrown under the bus. You can go to the bank on this one.

  • melisa

When my son was 27, he had already been working for 10 years as a computer programmer, had married at 23, then had two children, is the sole breadwinner for their toddler years….He would never act like this…
I wonder if there are just some people that have so much privelege that they feel superior in some way. Like the roles of respect and dignity do not apply, no matter what place of responsibility they find themselves in.

  • somerset

When my husband was 27, he was serving in the US Army in the Counter-Intelligence Corps. When I was 27, I was a physician doing my medical residency, serving in a large city teaching hospital. Maybe that is why we didn’t vote for obama…we just happened to grow up in a timely fashion and know a lot about the dipshits who never do. This guy needs to be fired now.

  • stodgie

i can see this guy at age 40 still do the same thing plus an additional 20 pounds. bad attitudes don’t grow up for the most part! i am sure many of us have an uncle harry or whoever that we dread seeing at the annual christimas dinner.

  • stodgie

jay, you must be 27 or less and have acted the fool in the not too distant past. you need to grow up dude!

  • http://www.madinthemiddle.blogspot.com churl

I predict great things for this dork. He might even replace Tweety. I’m sure he gives great tingles. I would love to see someone do a poster of Obama and have , oh, I don’t know, some “lady” playing with his balls.

  • Nancy

Thanks for your comments on Favreau.
    It is totally shocking.
And worse, that many commentators and others do NOT see what is wrong with this!
Don’t they know that violence against women is just another aspect of the thinking that says groping a woman’s image in public is funny?

How do we educate these people? Where have they been for the past 40 years while sexual harassment was being driven out of other work places?
Oh, right, they weren’t even born yet!
And the campaign to end sexual harassment apparently never made it to politics!

FIRE this punk kid asap or do not expect to be taken seriously by serious folks.

  • JohnnyB

Great cartoon, Pat, another in a long series of great cartoons and commentary from you.

This goes to the heart of the problem. Our not seeing women as equals. It is for this reason that the http://www.campaignforgenderequality.org has partnered with http://www.womencount.org calling for President Obama to form a Presidential Commission on Women. You can go to their websites and sign the petition.

It is time for a national dialog on issues affecting Women. It’s been 47 years since JFK called for a Presidential Commission on the Status of Women.
This commission led to many changes in our laws.
It is time again to have attention on the issues affecting women brought into the spotlight.

Take action, sign the petition. Do something positive as we gripe about the inequities.

  • Phillymiss

I know that most of you here dislike Bush, but I don’t think that he would have tolerated this behavior.

  • Tricia Spiegel

I am shocked to realize that I actually agree with you Phillymiss. Good insight.

  • http://deleted Buzz Latte

But Bush was smart enough to not have pictures taken.

  • Blue Orchid

    A great cartoon that ellucidates.

  • http://deleted Buzz Latte

Bush was at least mature and smart enough to not have his picture taken while engaging in potentially damaging antics.

On the surface one can easily agree with those who say we are making too much of the acts of an immature, perhaps intoxicated 27 year old male. Except for some very important facts which are:

One, people seem to not want to take responsibility for their acts and we need to take responsible for our actions on or off the job.

Two, for government to work at its best, the politicians need to elevate our opinion of government, and this further devalues how we see people in government.

Three, this is not just a 27 year old male but a person in a powerful position who will be writing speeches for the president and thereby my influence how the president sees women’s issues.

And four, sexism is still alive and well and this proves it, and it needs to change.

What if we made a cut out of John Favreau’s mother and had a 27 year old male with his hand on John’s mother breast or pretending that he is having oral sex with her. Would John see this as boys will be boys. What if we made a cut out of Obama and had some 27 year old women pretending that she was having oral sex with him, would Michele Obama and others say girls will be girls?

    Rich

  • Tricia Spiegel

Hear Hear Rich! You’re one of the good guys!

  • jiminycricket

I agree with all of what has been said, but did you know that Hillary didn’t blink an eye and did not seem at all outraged by it?

    It sure bothered ME!

  • Rich

Another example of why treating this as boys will be boys is wrong is: Lets say that a police man was seen hitting his wife or girl friend and the police chief took the position that in spit of that fact the police man hit his wife or girl friend he was still qualified to handle domestic violence cases involving men hitting women. How many would agree with the police chief?

You may think that this is over dramatic, however the issue of sexism in this country is part of the domestic violence issue.

Have you heard the saying the pen is mightier then the sord. Words that may end up in obama’s mouth if Obama keeps him and does not make sure to read every word this guy writes for him.

    Rich

  • WildChild

The pen can’t be that mighty. All it got Boobo was a card board cut out for a date.

  • Don X

Great cartoon, Pat. Anyone, even a 27-y/o, with half a brain should have realized, even if drunk, that in this age of everything photographed finding its way to a website, YouTube, and other media, where this kind of photographed clowning around would end up. Just shows what poor judgment and immaturity this goofball has.

He may get a public slap on the wrist by Obama and privately told to shape up, but it is unlikely he will be fired since he is apparently gifted at writing Obama’s flowery speeches, the kind that appealed to the young voters who supported him in droves.

What are we to think if Hillary winks at it? Well, it seems she can tolerate a lot of worse disrespect and humiliation and still stand by her man, Bill. In the context of what all she has been through over the years, any hue and cry over this incident by Obama’s opponents may be seen as just a part of a conspiracy to discredit her new boss-elect, Obama. I expect her to publivly stand by her man, no matter how much she may be hurting inside.

just because they are in the gutter..doesn’t mean HILLARY should get in there with themm.
she is too much of a lady

  • Choo Choo Magoo

    Pat –
Great cartoon and great words. I agree with you 100%. It was bad enough seeing the picture, but when I watched Carville on CNN saying it was all good and proper and boys will be boys and its only cardboard. I thought “Annie get your gun. Them’s shooting words”
Its like saying a noose is only rope and flipping the bird is only extending your finger. Symbols and gestures are forms of communication. And there is no mistaking what those two guys are trying to communicate. If Carville logic held then pornography is only a picture. Grrr! I really have had it with the media talking heads.

  • Pat Racimora

    Hey Choo CHoo,
Carville made me furious as well. I wonder if he could “get it” if we gave him your rationale? Probably not.

I keep trying to like him, but this was the last straw.

  • CenralMass

I believe you are right. If she worked for the CIA he might have had her outed, but I doubt he would tolerate something like this.

  • GBS

Great toon – you’re raising an issue I don’t think most are aware of. Way to get the word out.

  • mary

    Phillymiss

Yes. I agree. I never liked Bush’s incomprehensible war, but yes, he would have fired this sexist misogynist piggie in a jiff

  • mary

    Jay

Would you feel the same if a monkey wore an “Obama” shirt, peeling a banana under a tree, and Carolyn Kennedy was beside him fondling a rope close to his scrawny neck while a hood was lowered on the Obama-monkey’s head? Fun eh?

Misos is the greek word for Hatred and gyny for woman. Ain’t it about time to enact anti-Hatred legislation to protect women against the Favreau jerks of the world diminishing and degrading women in power they fear–or any woman?

  • mary

I LOVE ALL THE ‘NO QUARTER’ COMMENTERS!

THEY BRIGHTEN MY DAY AND ENRICH MY MEMORY BANK WITH YET ANOTHER REASON TO SAVE MY PENNIES AND PUT ON THE FRONT PAGE OF N.Y. TIMES THIS CUTBOARD AD:

heading: CHANGE YOU CAN BELIEVE IN
    below the cardboard with:

“A Monkey with a basketball shirt with OBAMA on it, sitting underneath a Hawaiian tree, peeling a banana….whilst Jon boy Favreau’s fondling the Obama-monkey’s privates with a thick rope and a hood hanging over his skinny ass missin’ it by 2″ or so….”

Anyone want to take a collection for this Misogyny Awareness Ad?

Message to Obambi: Grow up. Be a man for a change. Fire the scumball you hired as your Mouthpiece!

  • mary

    Jay,

I’ll give this dipshit misogynist creep a break….when….anti-Hatred legislation is enacted protecting girls and women from hateful acts and degrading diminishments. Don’t you think it’s about time your sisters, daughters, mothers and aunties were treated with the same respect as those members of racial minorities who now enjoy such respect, witness the Prez-elect?! Admit it!
