Are We Looking at President Biden? Update

(UPDATE–Tony Rezko provided the prosecutors information used to build the case against Blagojevich. A new tidbit from reading the complaint.)

Don’t kid yourself, Barack Obama is not sleeping well tonight. He has played the pay to play game since he got involved in Chicago politics. He is not clean on this. For example, according to a source with direct knowledge, Barack Obama used Tony Rezko as an intermediary with Governor Blagojevich to get people on his staff and in his district state appointed jobs. Will Blagojevich keep his mouth shut? I don’t think so.

But Blagojevich is the least of Barack’s problems. Let’s meet Blagojevich’s Chief of Staff, John Harris.

The Chicagoist has the full story, but here are the relevant portions:

Sure, everyone knows who Gov. Rod Blagojevich is, but who’s this John Harris guy? Well, Harris was apart of Mayor Daley’s administration from 1996 to 2005. . . .

In 2005, Harris resigned as budget director when City Hall was ensnared in Hired Trucks, political hiring and minority contracts scandals that were quickly circling around the Daley administration. Harris, who oversaw the Hired Trucks Program, made headlines during the scandal when it was revealed that he had ties to Victor Reyes, a former high-ranking Daley aide who ran the now infamous Hispanic Democratic Organization. Harris and Reyes were acquaintances and went on a fishing trip together in 2003. Harris also sat on a city panel that recommended a $1 billion construction contract to a company that employed Reyes as a lobbyist. Harris wasn’t charged with any wrongdoing but the damage was already done. . . .

During his time in City Hall, Harris oversaw the administrative side of the Chicago Police Department and would later help usher in the O’Hare runway expansion project. At that time, Harris served as a deputy to Aviation Commissioner Thomas Walker, who was largely a figurehead. Behind the scenes, Harris and then CTA President Frank Kruesi (grandfather of the CTA doomsday and mastermind behind Meigs Field) were considered to be the brains behind the department. Daley, however, bypassed Harris when he appointed someone else to oversee the all-important construction phase of the runway expansion plan, a sign that seemed to indicate that Harris was on the outs with Daley. But the two seemed to pact things together when Daley appointed Harris as budget director.

Harris knows where the bodies are buried and he is likely to sing. He doesn’t want his salad tossed in the joint by a big beefy guy named Bubba. So who does he finger? I believe the first guy in the crosshairs will be Mayor Daley. Both Harris and Blagojevich will be racing against each other to become the most valuable player for the prosecution.

I doubt that David Axelrod is sleeping well either. Axelrod had close ties with Blagojevich. He ran his first campaign for the House. He very well may not see the inside of the White House as a Senior Advisor. I think he is in play.

Obama supporters should not take to much solace in the one questions asked but not really answered at today’s press confab. The question the press should have asked Obama, which was not asked nor answered is this:

Did you or any member of your staff or your political team have conversations with Governor Blagojevich or any member of his staff about who should be selected to replace you?

There is some good news for Barack. He apparently rebuffed Blagojevich’s efforts to shake him down. But, rather than come out today and admit that he talked to Blagojevich about possible choices (nothing wrong with that) he lied to the press conference and claimed to have had no conversation. Simply not true. David Axelrod admitted they had talked and, if you read the indictment, Blagojevich talks about the conversation.

As noted in previous articles today, Barack and Michelle played the Chicago game. Michelle was appointed to boards and got paid. Barack got a sweetheart land deal with Tony Rezko. Now that there is some blood in the water, I don’t think this is going away.

There also is this tidbit from the indictment:

Rezko was a principal fundraiser for ROD BLAGOJEVICH. His criminal trial focused on allegations that Rezko and Stuart Levine, a member of the board of trustees of the Teachers Retirement System and the Illinois Health Facilities Planning Board, engaged in a scheme to defraud the State of Illinois of Levine’s honest services by demanding kickbacks, as well as political contributions to the campaign of ROD BLAGOJEVICH, in return for the exercise of Levine’s official influence. Relevant evidence presented at the Rezko trial is summarized below.

Guess what? Rezko also was a principal fundraiser for Barack Obama.

This could go a variety of ways. It may be just an unfortunate blip on the Obama presidency. His team is praying that’s the case. But Patrick Fitzgerald and the FBI could be sitting on some other tapes/wiretaps that are damaging to Obama. We also do not know what Rezko is saying at this point nor do we know what Blagojevich and Harris will spill. Under a worst case scenario, Obama becomes a target and Joe Biden finds himself moving to the Oval office. This scandal is not going away. But hey, it is the Chicago way.

  • Ellen D

    I hope this sticks.

    • Jacques

Obama– “This is not the Blagojevich I knew.”

      • drkate

        Excellent article.

remember when he introduced Biden as President biden?

Anyway, if something happens to Obama and he is forced to stand down, Biden can only act, if he is allowed to stand at all. I am not sure Biden can benefit from Obama the fraud, especially if the eligibility issue is also resolved.

Biden would act as President (if voted by the electoral college) until ‘one has qualified’. If Biden can’t stand at all, then the 20th amendment takes over and the House chooses the Pres and the Senate chooses the VP.

    • Lisa

So what if Obama’s staff talked to the Governor about who would replace him? Wouldn’t you expect that they would? Big deal. There is nothing immoral or illegal about that.

Obama has distanced himself from the Governor for some time and Blagojevich was the only Governor to not speak at the Democratic convention.

Just because Obama and his people had contact and relationships with Blagojevich in the past means nothing. Christ, they are all major political figures from Illinois, so it is quite natural that there are relationships there. It does not mean the Obama or any of his people had anything to do with Blagojevich’s pay-to-play modus operatus.

In fact, Obama quite recently pushed for reform in Illinois politics, by helping to get a state-senate ethics bill passed, which was opposed and vetoed by Blagojevich. Before the bill came into effect Blagojevich made a last ditched effort to press contractors for campaign contractors, which may have resulted in federal agents getting wiretaps according to prosecutors.

Going back to your guilt by association BS is garbage. Let see how this plays out. Larry, if you are wrong in your inferences, as you almost always are when it comes to politics, can we expect a retraction? I don’t it. Calling Obama’s grandmother’s death a trick of political gain or the Whitey tapes BS seems to suggest that you are just cheesy Obama hater and mud slinger with little substance.

No presidential candidate has come under as much scrutiny as Obama, except maybe Clinton with Whitewater. Nobody looked at every single relationship and backroom deal of either McCain or George Bush. I can only imagine what we would find if we spent two years going through every background detail of either Bush or McCain. Rezko is BS and means absolutely nothing. Who cares?

“So what if Obama’s staff talked to the Governor about who would replace him? Wouldn’t you expect that they would? Big deal. There is nothing immoral or illegal about that.”

I think that is excatly the point. So, why did Obama lie about it then? He always lies about these associations, instead of just stating the facts, and it always makes him look guilty. he denied ever speaking to Blago about this, but yet, they had a meeting on the 5th, and they met at the Governors meeting in Philly, and Blago said he wants Obama’s input, and Axelrod said they discussed it. So then WHY does Obama come out and make a huge point to say they never discussed it?

        • Bob

How do you know that Obama lied? This is what he said.

Asked by a reporter if he was aware of the allegations involving the pay-to-play tactics to fill his Senate seat, Obama said: “I had no contact with the governor or his office, and so I was not aware of what was happening, and as I said it is a sad day for Illinois. Beyond that I don’t think it’s appropriate to comment.”

What exactly did he lie about?

          • Fancy

I just have to wonder whom you’re trying to convince?

            Obama’s defense is laughable.

            You’re aware, right?

            • Lisa

              Defense of what?

        • skinny malinky

Wait wait wait, in Larry’s blog post, he says Obama was never asked the question “Did you or any member of your staff or your political team have conversations with Governor Blagojevich or any member of his staff about who should be selected to replace you?” So how could he lie about that if he wasn’t asked about it?

          • drkate

Is this Bob the a$$ from kos?

Obama met with the Governor on NOvember 5th, reported in a chicago newspaper. Axlegoof also mentioned a meeting, and of course later ‘misspoke’. Fitz was taping the governor’s office then. Let’s see if Barky shows up on the wire.

            Taps, anyone? :rotfl:

      • drkate

Lisa, are you really that naive?

  • AnnieO

Corrupt politicians often have others do their bidding for them. The problem can be that the politician’s point person likes to brag.

    • Galt’s Diaper Service

Or sing like a canary.

  • chezmadame

The chickens are coming home to roost.

Keep us posted Larry. The press is already spinning this Obama’s way.

    • Jacques

      To recharge your memories,

Obama said he hadn’t nothing to do with Antonin Rezko about the house deal, only with the wife.

But then, at Rezko’s trial, it was revealed Rezko toured the Obama home for 30 minutes or so before the purchase.

Obama immediately released a press statement saying he recalled the meeting, he made a mistake. Media died.

Naturally, Rezko knowing buildings would be a good guy to take a look at a house before purchase…but then, there is the money side…

  • http://americanpumainitaly.blogspot.com/ sarainitaly

Can we PLEASE have Hillary back?

Man, I hope they start singing.

Michelle’s job totally sounds like a pay to play situation.

    • tek

That would never happen. It’ll be Biden and Nancy will be veep.

I don’t believe anything will happen to Obama. The wagons will circle around him. At this point, I almost hope nothing will happen to him because Biden would be a disaster and there’s no hope of getting Hillary. This country would simply meltdown if we have another disaster in the WH.

Anyone know what is the scandal surrounding Charles Rangel? Something about trying to commandeer the new administration’s agenda?

      • JustMe

Why does NancyP get veep can Biden not choose his own VP?

        • Mandelay

Correct. Biden gets to choose his own VP. Only if Obama and Biden both do not take office would Nancy P. move up… to Prez. But any “replacement Prez” chooses his or her veep.

      • drkate

        20th amendment all.

If electors fail to give anyone 270 votes, House chooses Pres, Senate chooses VP. Have to choose from those who were on the presidential ballot. Hillary, a possibility. Nancy Pelosi-not.

If Obama is elected by the electors but Obama fails to qualify (arrested, ineligible) by the beginning of his term, VP shall ACT as President until one has qualified.

  • http://liberalrapture.com/ John (from Liberal Rapture)

Rahm is in trouble. That’s for sure. As for Obama – time will tell. And Fox news will not be spinning for Obama. The election is over. THe media will start to come back around to sanity.

    • http://baddemocrat08.wordpress.com csuzeq

      O/T

speaking of the media back to sanity, does anyone know why the hell CNN has a green logo now? It used to be red! Does this mean that when it’s red they don’t report news and green means news is back on?

      • Galt’s Diaper Service

Green and red are xmas colors. Maybe the Green is just to be festive? I guess leaving it red would be festive too, but its a theory.

      • TeakWoodKite

I believe it is the corporate attempt at being “green”, which is funky considering their “carbon foot print”.

  • catherine

Biden? Neither has been sworn in yet. Why not President Clinton? After all, she did win the nomination that was stolen from her and given to someone else.

I mean considering she won more votes than ANYONE in primary history it kinda makes sense in a democracy to give the job to the one who MOST Americans voted for.

    • tek

Have you seen any leaders of either party do anything that makes sense in the last 8 years?

      • catherine

I was being partly sarcastic. But in all seriousness if this brings down Obama as it should if all the facts come to light do you seriously think that most democrats …most Americans would tolerate Biden/Pelosi????

The DNC was able to get away with stealing the nom from Hillary because their guy was/is the object of worship in this years cult of personality and the media were their accomplices on this assault on democracy.

Obama’s gotten away with much because his followers behave as adolescents experiencing their first crush. But can you honestly imagine Biden/Pelosi inspiring that same veneration from anyone??? LOL

        • tek

I sincerely hope you’re right, that the American public won’t tolerate Biden/Pelosi. I caught a few minutes of E! TV yesterday–scanning channels. They showed a clip of SNL ridiculing the Clintons because of Hillary’s SOS appointment. Then the anchors on E! started saying horrible things about Hillary and saying why don’t the Clintons just go away, can’t we just get rid of them, etc. I’m afraid Obama has brainwashed “the Youth” against the Clintons so thoroughly that those people have an irrational hatred. I’m going to pray everyday that Obama’s despicable behavior toward Hillary will come back to bite him in the butt.

          • NoBamaNoWay

insane. the 90′s really sucked, didn’t they? yeah, obama’s gonna be a way better president than clinton ever was. heh.

        • It’s Not Me

2000 people cast votes for Biden in the Primaries. MILLIONS voted for Hillary….more people voted for her than BO. Anyone with a brain knows that.

IF BO should be indicted before he’s inaugurated, then Hillary would be the next in line…NOT Biden. However, if he’s indicted AFTER he’s the President, it would be Biden and Nancy. What an awful thought.

          • Peggy Sue

I’ve never understood this Clinton hatred. The Obamatrons reference Jimmy Carter as a wise sage. But I actually lived through the Carter years. It was “not” party time.

And windfall profits tax on the oil companies? That comes right out of the Carter playbook. What a disaster. We didn’t worry about the cost of gasoline because there was no gasoline. People on the West Coast [lala land] were shooting one another at gas stations. Mortgage rates were off the scale. The Iran hostage situation and subsequent failed rescue made everyone wince with shame.

Now the Clinton years??? They look like the Golden Age in comparison. So, okay Bill needed to keep his zipper up. But the Hillary hate was manufactured by the Republicans and now the progressive Dems are parroting the same ghastly tripe.

As for Biden? I’ve always liked Joe Biden, even his gaffes. But for Prez?? Say it ain’t so, Joe.

Miserable choices, anyway you look at it. And it could have been so-o-o different. And for this I will never forgive the DNC!

            • educatedwhitewoman

Peggy Sue, I lived through the Carter years too – what a disaster. 14% interest and worse unemployment than today, as I recall. We didn’t have 24-hour media then though, and so we didn’t know how miserable we were. I wonder if the USA would exist now if we did.

Why do they love Carter and hate the Clintons? Simple – their professors have brainwashed them into hating America. Carter is an honorary member of the “Hate America First, it’s always to blame for everything” club – always badmouthing his own country and all of the presidents who have served since he left office. Amazing from a man who was one of the worst presidents ever.

        • drkate

see my note above. the 12th and 20th amendments govern.

If Obama is a fraud and not a natural born citizen, can Biden benefit from that or is the whole ticket fraudulent.

Electors and Congress ahve to choose from whoever was on the ballot for Pres and VP.

Clinton could be Pres under 1 scenario, where House chooses her because she clearly would have been the nominee except for Obama.

          Still a possibility

  • Bigtime

I think it fits that the DNC moved to the most corrupt city in America. I do not think this will stick either, the press will deflect and cover. They (the press) will destroy Fitzgerald, or try to .

    • Fancy

      Maybe, god knows it’s dirty.

But the people, and the press, of IL, seem to welcome Fitz, WANTING the garbage Blago, Daley and Obama represent, OUT.

So, agian, the frame of mind in Chicago, and IL, is a little different.

Watching WGN-Chicago tonight, every politician and his sister was distancing himself from Blago, decrying the corruption of IL politics, (just as they did, hypocritically, with Ryan).

Which doesn’t mean anything per se, but maybe SOME of the press in Chicago, and the people of IL, are ahead of the curve in terms of demanding this be cleaned up.

Someone made a point earlier the MSM should be held accountable –well, the Tribune isn’t doing to well, neither is the LA Times, as of late, who is to say a cable news network won’t go under, either?

      Why?

If Il politicans represent the way Washington will eventually go, we’re in deep shit.

      • Chicago Joe

I beg to differ about the press in Illinois. The current ilk we have on the local media are whores for the politicians. What passes for investigative politics in Illinois is nothing like what it used to be. The closest thing we have right now is John Kass, but the TV media have no interest in doing anything investigative whatsoever. Living in the blogosphere and then watching the local news, well, it’s like being in a parallel universe where Barry is concerned. It is nothing but adulation and puff pieces. How I long for the days of Walter Jacobsen and Mike Royko. They would have looked at the smoke, and found the fires. Now Drew Peterson—-that’s a story they work 24/7 on. But to in any way scratch the patina on the great Barack. Not happening.

        • Fancy

But it’s still better than the national scene.

I’ve been reading the Chicago papers, at least they have coverage.

In fact when I need a rezko-fitz update, the only place I can find one is the Chicago papers.

And I like Kass, I read him, too.

          • Fancy

BTW, I agree with you about Royko, and Jacobson, I cut my teeth, as a kid, on their reporting.

Royko went after them all, I know it’s not the same, now, but still — I watched I think it was Carol Marin (from NBC?) and she was very upfront with questioning Obama, in regard to Rezko, during the primaries.

I didn’t see one other reporter pursue Obama so aggressively on behalf of the public.

It was really nice to see.

          • Fancy

I still do not get Blago talking on the phone about all of this and reminding others that, “The world is listening”. He says this in the same breath as he says that he should appoint himself to the Senate seat since he would have more help as a senator if he were arrested. Could he be that dumb that he didn’t think the Retzko sentencing delay had something to do with getting the goods on him (and others.)

  • MG

Does that mean Hillary b/comes Vice – President!?
Maybe Bill Clinton b/comes Sec of State!?

  • http://baddemocrat08.wordpress.com csuzeq

They are already making sure in the MSM to point out that Fitzgerald finds Obama guilty of no wrong doing. WTF? Why does everyone want to protect that freaking loser???

I feel like I am in never, never land. Nothing makes sense here anymore. This political year has thrown me for a loop! I am so perplexed I am wondering if I am really conscious or not!

    • Peggy Sue

Yes, csuzeg. Everyone wants to protect “The One.” But, there will be a saturation point when the protection becomes so flimsy, even the blind will see. I have to believe that. Look at what has happened so far, and the man hasn’t even taken the oath.

I’m sorry but “saddened and sobered” doesn’t cut it in my book. But then, I guess we might get a speech on public morality at some point. Just words, again.

It’s beyond bloody belief! And if we’re asleep? Please, for the love of God, wake us up.

To quote Rush Limbaugh, ” it’s not what Obama says it’s how he he says it. I’ve had my fingers crossed for months know something would sink this man, and nothing pans out. It’s not that i have any doubts obama is crooked or bad for this country, but like bush for most of his first term, he’s being cushioned from critism. I’ll believe it when i see it, the mans a snake but he will never be called on it until he does something so horrible no one can cover it up.

Did i mention i loath actually listing to Rush but am beginning to like it?

When Obama takes office, can he just dismiss/fire Fitzgerald? If he can, this will all disappear. I hate that such corrupt people have such power. How can we even say we’re better than places like Russia, with such rampant corruption here. It’s disgusting.

    • saving face

In 1972 Nixon won in a landslide despite a little story out there called Watergate. It took 2 years to percolate and when it did it took down a President and sent many of his staff to Prison.

I agree that people want to feel good about their country again. But as Obama himself said the worst is yet to come–millions will lose their jobs in 09. Hopey/Changey/Touchy/Feely is going to look a bit faded if people are hurting badly at the end of next year.

  • ford

Blago made reference to MO getting alot of money to sit on boards….and don’t forget the pay raise from 120,000 to 300,000 after BO won the senate seat and earmarked funds for the U of C…a pattern of pay to play that they all enjoyed.

BO , Rahm and Axelrod could have a very bumpy ride ahead. I think Larry is doing a great job on this for us..

thank you LJ, we need straight talk.

    • lorac

Someone on Fox tonight said the scuttle is that Rahm was the one who clued Fitzgerald into what led to the governor’s arrest today – whether that was a while back or recently ,though, they didn’t say.

  • lark

Not knowing much of anything about all of this but finding what you know very interesting and probable, I think you are right. Much lesser issues hung over previous presidents and ended up hurting them badly. The whole convoluted conundrum this one displays right now does not look particularly good. Specially now that he has denied it like he denied ever hearing Wright damning America and like OJ denied ever wanting to kidnap and arm rob anyone.

Biden could be a good president. I would feel somewhat reassured with him.

    • AF catfish

Obama lied so impulsively when he denied talking to Blagovich about who would fill his old senate seat. What’s worse, there is nothing wrong with talking to Blagovich about this, but Obama denied it as if he were guilty of something.

In Axelrode’s original statement, he said Blago and Obama talked about candidates to fill his senate seat and “Obama is fond of many of them.” There is nothing illegal there.

I can’t imagine anybody testifying against Obama. It’s a death sentence. I do NOT mean Obama ordering a hit and I do NOT mean anything merely similar to it. But still it’d be a death sentence, a target on the testifier’s back, front, and both sides. And every player knows it.

    • noproblama

No one will role over on Obama. He’s got his machine to protect him.

But that may not have to happen to foil his presidency. When something like this is posted on Yahoo’s front page, you know there’s trouble in paradise.

well going to prison for the rest of your life is a death sentence also. and franly obama isn’t god so this fear of obama and testifying leaves me saying whtf!

    Larry

Great post! The key is how will the MSM report on this story. Patrick Fitzgerald stated that in these particular charges BO is not involved. It doesn’t mean that future criminal complaints are not coming down.

Already, the MSM is trying to protect Barky. This story reminds me of Watergate. It took two years before President Nixon was forced to resign.

    • tek

I do wonder if Rod will start singing against BO. The machine would probably kill him if he did.

      • It’s Not Me

Blago isn’t the type to go down alone…trust me. He’ll take everyone down with him. Fitz will keep him protected for info.

        • AF catfish

Blago as we saw today is certainly a loose cannon. Even Axelrode noticed this and refused to work for his 2002 gubernatorial campaign.

Look at this familiar pattern, tho:

In the Summer of 2006, then-U.S. Sen. Obama backed Blagojevich even though there were serious questions at the time about Blago’s hiring practices.

At the time, numerous state agencies had had records subpoenaed, with U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald telling authorities he was looking into “very serious allegations of endemic hiring fraud” with a “number of credible witnesses.”

In an interview with the Chicago Daily Herald in July 2006, then-Sen. Obama said, “I have not followed closely enough what’s been taking place in these investigations to comment on them. Obviously I’m concerned about reports that hiring practices at the state weren’t, at times, following appropriate procedures. How high up that went, the degree at which the governor was involved, is not something I’m going to speculate on.

“If I received information that made me believe that any Democrat had not been acting in the public interest, I’d be concerned,” Obama said.

That said, Mr. Obama said, “If the governor asks me to work on his behalf, I’ll be happy to do it.”

Apparently the governor did. At the Illinois State Fair in August 2006, Obama spoke on Blagojevich’s behalf.

“We’ve got a governor in Rod Blagojevich who has delivered consistently on behalf of the people of Illinois,” Obama told the crowd.

        • http://donnadarko.wordpress.com donna darko

Rahm-Blago-Rezko-Obama don’t seem to like each other especially when their asses are on the line. Who else will Rahm, Rezko, and now, Blago out?

      • lorac

I wonder, though… If BO goes down, he’d be persona non grata and would have lost his power. Wouldn’t the Chicago machine quickly wash their hands of him, and not worry about the whistle blower at that point….?

The problem is people in general want to feel good about their country again. Even if the truth is staring them in the face, they won’t want it to be true.

I believe Fitz has tapes of Blago talking to BHO and could have nailed BHO for pay to play, and this was Fitz’ way of saying to Barry: you are being watched.

      • Fancy

If people want to feel good about our country, (as you said, and you’re right), people need to DO something to clean it up, as opposed to being passive viewers, allowing guys like Axelrod and Obama’s art director the opportunity to create false narratives around corrupt candidates.

But the excitement, the glamour, the feelings!

It’s all a lie, and temporary, like a drug, but I guess the fantasy is far less threatening and far less demanding than the reality.

      • stodgie

feel good based on false ideas and expectations? that doesn’t work out very well. it is called denial.

  • gracie

I do not think this will stick either, the press will deflect and cover. They (the press) will destroy Fitzgerald, or try to.

Blagojavich will either resign tomorrow or be arrested at his home.

Love to see Rahm Emanuel fall over this.

    • lark

If that happens Congress will turn against Obama with vengeance.

      • Andy

        why?

        • lark

Because it will put a bad taste on their victory this year and even though Emanuel may not be an endearing figure he is still one of their leaders and they will become conditioned to relating Obama to bad news on a personal level.

I predict a fight between Obama and Congress and Obama arousing the people against Congress in order to get his way in legislation.

Obama is a stupid liar and all he has is charisma with those gullible enough to believe what he says. Politicians know how to repel away from those who put their electability in jeopardy.

          • Fancy

Ultimately, this is about justice for the people of America, and the restoration of a functioning government.

(Corrupt governments cannot function, they fall).

It HAS to be cleaned up, or the US fails, look where we’re at now — and Obama has to handle this with the implications of Blago’s arrest hanging over his head. There is no spin on the truth, deep at night, in the middle of your head, no matter how many bloggers are out trolling for you…

Certainly, SOME of the people in power understand this, they’re not all besotted billionaires out to buy themselves a President.

          • Andy

But someone big has to roll/come out against him him first to create that kind of momentum against him. So far they are all together in the same cage…

    It’s all good in Chicago.
More pesky facts from a friend in Ilinois:
Please read and consider the following.
Body count: In the last six months 292 killed (murdered) in Chicago; 221
    killed in Iraq.
Sens. Barack Obama & Dick Durbin, Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr., Gov. Rod
    Blogojevich,
House leader Mike Madigan, Atty. Gen. Lisa Madigan (daughter of Mike),
Mayor Richard M. Daley (son of Mayor Richard J. Daley)
    …..our leadership in Illinois…..all Democrats.
Thank you for the combat zone in Chicago. Of course, they’re all blaming
    each other.
Can’t blame Republicans, there aren’t any!
State pension fund $44 Billion in debt, worst in country.
Cook County (Chicago) sales tax 10.25% highest in country. (Look ‘em up if
    you want).
Chicago school system rated one of the worst in the country.
This is the political culture that Obama comes from in Illinois. And he’s gonna ‘fix’ Washington politics for us!

  • Seattle Moss

    Folks..
I’m just disgusted that Obama could win by using Chicago thug politics to game the system and to use illegal fund raising while the corrupt media failed the American people.
I’ve been trying to feel hopeful about Obama’s centrist cabinet selections but the revelation of corruption in Chicago just reinforces all that we saw as true patriots concerned throughout the campaign.

and the guy isn’t even president yet….

    • lark

I have the feeling his first two years may get ruined. I didn’t know how the hate for him in Congress would rise up but like everything else these day, it seems this time he may get ‘instant hate.’

      • Seattle Moss

The problem for all of is that Obama will be viewed as weak by our adversaries and polarizing within the government.
Not a good thing if we want America to recover and stay safe.

        • Fancy

          Perhaps another round of
“99 bitches but not that problem,” or whatever it was called, would do the trick.

          Why not?

    • SFIndiePUMA

I’m just disgusted that Obama could win by using Chicago thug politics

It’s the only way he COULD win, and he did it with the full knowledge and support of the DNC and most of the Democratic Congress, as well as the MSM.

I’ve been trying to feel hopeful about Obama’s centrist cabinet selections

And enough with the “hopey” crapola. C’mon, didn’t we all have enough of that bull this past 18 months???

With Obama, you get corruption. Period. No hope. No change. Just corruption.

And of course he’ll get away with it, because he’s got the MSM and the Democrats in Congress to help him cover it all up. I’m all outta hope, and don’t expect anything to change.

Well, okay, one thing has changed. I’m a WHOLE lot more cynical than I used to be.

The downfall of Obama is on pages 64 aqnd 65 of the affidavit where Blago exposes Michelle Obama as a part of the Pay to Play Chicago style at the Hospital and Treehouse.

BO might be a witness for the prosecution here ( BO has been extremely good at covering his back and erasing his tracks as soon as he assumed the US Senate seat and decided to run for POTUS)…
Besides I think the whole political machine in DC + the MSM will do the impossible to isolate and protect BO; there is too much ridding on his presidency..

Besides (LOL) what will people do with the zillions of T-shirts , coins and plates with his face being sold? (Pelosi’s plan to stimulate the economy..)
Really, I walked today into the campus center here and I couldn’t believe the BO stand still there with tons of different T-shirts and memorabilia of the man. Tons of T-shirts of BO and Martin Luther King’s faces face-to-face…

    So colored me skeptical….

    • lorac

On Fox, Hannity pointed out that what Fitz said was that (not EXACT quote): “There is nothing incriminating against Obama in this complaint”.

Could have just been the way he said it, or…. could mean that they have some stuff, tucked away. They said that Fitz doesn’t accuse until he has all his p’s and q’s in a line.

    • LandOLincoln

I agree, Andy, and moreover I think one of Obama’s first moves after his inauguration will be to fire–or possibly “promote”–Pat Fitzgerald. In any case I think Fitz will be off the investigation, the MSM will happily ignore any subsequent developments, and Obama will eventually pardon Rezko and Blago. That will also be ignored.

      • Ani

I agree with Andy as well — O will be protected at all costs — they will spin this that he is the incorruptible hero emerging fromn the dirt of Chicago politics.

‘There is too much riding on his presidency’ — correct.

The media will certainly continue to circle the agons around him — think how humiliated they would be if they didn’t. After all, their egregious bias and refusal to do their jobs and vet this guy in the first place is the reason we are here right now.

No amount of caucus fraud would have helped him if it wasn’t for the media acting as his own personal PR firm and also behaving as misogynists toward Hillary and trumpeting him while trashing her.

        • Galt’s Diaper Service

Part of me would so love there to be some real-time Karma. It would serve a long-lasting lesson. But I agree with the general sentiment he will be protected. He also won’t be able to so much as fart without answering to someone with their claws in him.

I’ve been studying the all too often corrupt human spirit most of my life and this past 8 years have been a real eye opener. We have to figure out a way to address this fundamental problem or we will continue to have assholes for leaders.

          • Fancy

            I agree with you.

I would keep in mind, though, that many of us who supported Clinton thought this same evidence would surface during the primary, knocking out Obama, for good.

After Clinton withdrew, I figured the issue was pretty much dead, and buried.

But here it is again, even stronger this time.

It’s kind of like a political sinus infection (or any infection really).

It HAS to be hit with the right antibiotic, in the right dose, it has to be TREATED, or it keeps coming back, stronger and stronger each time.

Same with corruption — only an antibiotic in the form of genuine law enforcement can make it go away, — PR spin by a bunch of stupid trolls just ain’t gonna cut it, for the long run, for Obama, or the rest.

        • gaindenpendent

I don’t know. Think about the cumulative effect. Right now it might not do anything but after the story goes on and with the brutal economy coming down the pike next year, you might be seeing a different story 6 months from now.

      • beebop

Don’t for one moment think that someone as smart at Fitz doesn’t know the days of this investigation are numbered. Look for the biggest components to be out and arrests to be made before instillation day in DC. They may be missing a participant or two. Maybe Jon has a cardboard cutout of the the guy he works for and the Mrs?

  • rw

All analysts are pointing toward bad economic times in the coming year(s), seems as if we are headed toward turbulent political times as well. Something doesn’t feel right. Feels as if a lot of what is happening is being controlled….Obama was put in the POTUS position and he will be brought down when the real power deems it is time.

rw, what about the economic crisis occurring two weeks before the GE? October Surprise, anyone?

      • Seattle Moss

        Trixta,
I believe that the financial crisis and resultant stock collapse was engineered and prolonged by Pelosi and Co.
Is there any wonder why she deliberately offset the signing of the bill and then blamed republicans in a partisan fashion. Then Pelosi had to reinforce the negative by calling the situation the Great depression. That was the week when McCain began to fade.
We were all waiting for an October surprise..Destroying our economy to elect Obomb was the surprise.
Now they can’t reverse what they started.

    • Obama: Dubya II Electric Boogaloo

I agree. I think the real power hoped that by putting in someone like Obama will difuse the public’s potential outgrage when the poop hits the fan on the economy and America as well as put a happy smiley face on our military (mis)adventures around the globe. There’s nothing real about Obama.

    • saving face

rw — Something doesn’t seem right to me either. Instead of being hopeful I find most people I speak to being very afraid of the future. They want someone they can trust — who feels their pain. If Obama is corrupt and the economy continues its downward slide — no amount of positive media or toothy smiles will make Obama’s presidency successful.

  • JessinWisc

I want to hear Obama and Axelrod dismiss all this as a “distraction.” Anyone hear the word “distraction” yet? I’m counting the seconds!

And you know what, this country DOESN’T need this distraction right now–Please let Hillary get in there and start helping the American people–let’s not waste time listening to uhuhuhbama try to wiggle his way out of this one.

This house of cards will fall. It’s merely a question of when. Now? In a year? In four years? In eight years? Obama may be a good player but he ain’t God, and what goes around always come around, sooner or later. I’m patient, I’ll have my popcorn ready whenever the time does come.

Now Obama’s campaign is saying Axelrod misspoke—Whats new LOL

But it looks like the papers indicate there was a meeting between Obama and the governor–Does that mean Axelrod and the governor misspoke.

I have a feeling some people do not want to lose their head over this and the Obama campaign better start speaking some truths.

  • marley

I cannot stand it!! Xing my fingers! Thank you Larry for putting everything out here. Please, please, please…. and thank you Obama for saying your usual denial. Loving it.

Joseph Cannon has an interesting take- he surmises Rahm Emmanuel was in negotiations with Blago (good inferences from indictment). Blago would appoint Valerie in return for 501(c)(4) funding and that Rahm had an alternative idea of funneling money through another already established organization (Change to Win) because it would be one stepped removed from President-elect. However, Blago wanted 10-15 million. Thus, the “F-them” response.

Same with Rezko, and Obama — Obama KNEW Rezko was under investigation, yet he still brought him to the house, cutting the deal.

And Rezko, too, despite the indictment, still did business as usual.

  • JamesFranklin

I love coming here. It makes me feel so sane.

  • Sam

How interesting is it that Fitzgerald mentioned “Lincoln rolling over in his grave…” Isn’t Lincoln the president Obama is so obsessed with right now? Maybe a little shout-out to “the One?”

    • Fancy

And a pilot training off of the USS Lincoln, in San Diego, yesterday, ejected, his plane crashing into a residential neighborhood, killing a family of four, including a mother, her two infant boys, and their grandmother.

The same USS Lincoln from which Bush declared “mission accomplished.”

Doesn’t mean anything, just a coincidence, but I’m beginning to think there is a curse associated with those filthy politicans who take the name of Lincoln in vain.

Sort of like King Tut, “thou shall not take the name of Abe in vain.”

      (I’m kidding).

    • Peggy Sue

You know, Sam, I thought the same thing–that Fritz’s reference to Lincoln was a bit weird. Of course, they’re in Illinois but this Abe Lincoln comparison has been made countless times in the last few months, the whole Team of Rivals meme.

      Always makes me cringe.

Was the ref. deliberate or just a coincidence? Don’t know.

      • Fancy

I thought deliberate, even if only subconsciously.

So was mentioning Obama, “president elect Obama,” by name.

I would imagine the truth of the situation is horrific, in terms of the corruption, Evelyn Pringle’s “Operation Board Games” just the tip of the iceberg.

        • Peggy Sue

I think you’re right about Pringle’s series, Fancy. But it was a good primer on the spider web of corruption that is Chicago politics. And Obama is there, smack dab in the middle of the whole thing. He’s managed to do his “I’m clean as a whistle” act so far.

But I have a sneaking suspicion that this stuff is not going away anytime soon. And the longer it persists, the more likely the slime will catch up, a direct hit.

Which, of course, is bad for all of us because the country is in such a mess. Bad winds blowing!

I think Obama professes to look up to several long-gone politicians, one of which is Lincoln.

Abe Lincoln was born out of state (KY? MO? I can’t remember) but he grew up and worked in Illinois, and Illinois’ slogan is “Land of Lincoln” – it’s on all the license plates, even.

My guess is that Fitz’ Lincoln reference was more about the history of corrupton in Lincoln’s own state, not a signal that Obama is next. (He may indeed be next, I just don’t think the Lincoln reference has anything to do with it…IMO

I’m just groaning at the thought of President Biden, LOL. That possibility does not bring me any comfort.

Although it would be kind of amusing if the Obots discovered they had actually ushered in somebody who voted for the war, once voted for the defense of marriage act, and has been in Washington DC longer than John McCain.

But, rather than come out today and admit that he talked to Blagojevich about possible choices (nothing wrong with that) he lied to the press conference and claimed to have had no conversation.

Well, he has been lying consistently for months–right to the camera on numerous occasions–and there is no follow-through. One of these times, it’s going to stick. I doubt this will be it though. Too many people are too invested in this “historical” presidency. They will not allow him to fail. I’m sure the Gov & others are getting pressure and deals from all sides to keep their mouths shut.

And the gullibility continues: even though Axelrod is on tape saying Obama spoke to the Gov. about possible replacements, he lies about it today? His own hubris will be his undoing.

Ill. governor meeting with Obama today
      By Carol Sowers
      Wednesday, November 05, 2008 at 10:39 a.m.

CHICAGO, ILL. — Now that Barack Obama will be moving to the White House, his seat in the U.S. Senate representing Illinois will have to be filled.

That’s one of Obama’s first priorities today.

He’s meeting with Governor Rod Blagojevich this afternoon in Chicago to discuss it.

Illinois law states that the governor chooses that replacement.

      • TeakWoodKite

        So on the same day that BO and Blagojevich have a conversation WITH BO, about the Senate seat;

The criminal complaint (p.59 -61) alleges Blagojevich is out looking for all kinds of deals. And gets a place under the bus for his “troubles”.

This is actually it. I cant believe sanity may finally be coming back to our country!!!!1!!!11

Note the timing of this. Right before the election is ceritified. With what is going to come out over the next day or two with ‘that one’ theres no way (NO WAY) the electors will vote for him. How can they? They can vote for whom ever they wish and thats got to be Hillary. Only she can keep a lid on things now because its going to get explsosive when they take this away from ‘that one’ with so many people still fooled and lungs filled with kool-aid.

Either way, others now around Obama were less enthusiastic about Blagojevich at the time, namely David Axelrod, Obama’s senior campaign adviser who will soon be a senior adviser at the White House.

Axelrod had worked for Blagojevich in his past races for the House, but he declined to work on his gubernatorial run.

“He had been my client and I had a very good relationship with him, but I didn’t sign on to the governor’s race,” Axelrod told the New Yorker. “Obviously he won, but I had concerns about it…I was concerned about whether he was ready for that. Not so much for the race but for governing. I was concerned about some of the folks — I was concerned about how the race was being approached.”

On the Chicago TV show “Public Affairs with Jeff Berkowitz” on June 27, 2002, state Sen. Obama said, “Right now, my main focus is to make sure that we elect Rod Blagojevich as Governor, we…”

“You working hard for Rod?” interrupted Berkowitz.

    “You betcha,” said Obama.

    “Hot Rod?” asked the host.

    “That’s exactly right,” Obama said.

In 2004, then-Gov. Blagojevich enthusiastically endorsed Obama for the Senate seat after he won the nomination, and Obama endorsed Blagojevich for his 2006 re-election race in early 2005.

PRESS RELEASE: NLPC Says Obama Cannot Distance Himself From Blagojevich

Ethics Group Says Obama Cannot Distance Himself From Blagojevich

    Date: December 9, 2008
    Contact: Peter Flaherty 703-237-1970
    Website: http://www.nlpc.org

Falls Church, Virginia — The Blagojevich arrest is a problem for Barack Obama for two reasons. First, Blagojevich’s bagman Tony Rezko was Obama’s political sponsor.

Second, Blagojevich’s intercepted comments speak volumes about the way political business is conducted in Illinois. Blagojevich certainly expected Obama to be a willing participant in the dealings over Obama’s Senate seat. Of course, Obama is pleading ignorance, but he is either part of the political culture that produced Blagojevich or he is not. I doubt Rezko had one set of ethical standards when Obama was in the room, and another when he was with Blagojevich.

The 76-page FBI affidavit alleging Blagojevich sought to silence critics at the Chicago Tribune and sell Barack Obama’s Senate seat is shocking but not surprising. Corruption is endemic in Chicago and in Illinois state government. We may soon see two Illinois Governors in prison at the same time — one Democrat and one Republican.

I believe that the US Attorney acted now not only for the reasons he specified in his press conference, but also in the expectation that Obama might fire all U.S. Attorneys when he is inaugurated, like Bill Clinton did. Obama would be poorly advised to replace U.S. Attorneys who are conducting ongoing political corruption investigations.

The cautionary tale here is that more government intervention in the economy guarantees increased corruption. Obama’s plan to saturate state and local governments with stimulus funds will empower corrupt politicians and union bosses. Transactional politicians of the Blagojevich ilk will be the big beneficiaries. As we have documented in our newsletter Union Corruption Update, corrupt politicians and corrupt union bosses have a symbiotic relationship.

NLPC promotes ethics in public life, and sponsors the Organized Labor Accountability Project and the Corporate Integrity Project.

  • Concerned Citizen

President Biden? Aren’t you jumping the gun just a tad there Larry?

I think everyone needs to take a deep breath (on both sides). So far we know Blogo is up shit creek w/o a paddle. We also know he approached Obama’s people with a deal and was rebuffed. That’s about it. Beyond that, it’s all a bunch of conjecture and speculation.

The one connection Obama and Blogo have is Rezko. He will be sentenced in a couple of weeks, and it will be interesting to see if anything comes from that. My guess is if Rezko is sentenced without incriminating Barack, there nothing for the President-elect to worry about.

That being said, I trust Patrick Fitzgerald. He’s a no nonsense pro who’s not intimidated by power (see Cheney/Scooter Libby). If Obama has done something wrong here he will sniff it out.

But I will give the Obama the benefit of the doubt unless more evidence comes out.

            Sounds great!

    • Concerned Citizen

Socalannie: I have no idea if it is true or not. Maybe Blago and Obama have done all sorts of shady things together? Who knows?

Say what you want about Obama as a man; he has proven to be a masterful politician. I am fairly certain Obama would not incriminate himself directly with this loose cannon like Blago knowing he has been under investigation for years. But again, who knows?

I have really enjoyed the measured and high-minded discussion on this blog since the election. I hope this story doesn’t send us back into the La-La Land of Make Believe Tapes and cooky birth certificate conspiracy theories.

Anyway the point of my comment was to say let’s wait to see what information comes out in the next few weeks before we begin the impeachment hearings.

However if Obama is found to have done something wrong here, I’ll grab my pitchfork and join the mob.

      • C.S.

Say what you want about Obama as a man; he has proven to be a masterful politician.

I don’t want a “master politician” in the job of public servant! I want an honest and honorable person who doesn’t panhandle for $750 million dollars just to buy a seat in Our White House while our food banks struggle to feed our hungry masses in an economy created by another “politician” that was more “masterful” at self preservation than serving the People.

And Soertoro, Obama or whoever he might be calling himself tomorrow, isn’t a president elect or select (he did take delegates away from other candidates), until the electors certify him as such. Can’t trust a candidate who has jumped the gun declaring himself victorious before the race was even finished his whole political career.

Wonder if Fitzgerald can find out what kind of deal he made to buy the presidency….

  • EWard

    Concerned Citizen

What a bunch of nonsense! The Obamas buy a mansion that they can’t afford with the help of the Rezkos. Mrs. Rezko buys the $600,000 lot next door. She only earns $37,000 a year. During the trial, Rezko declares that he’s broke. So, where is the Rezko money coming from that he donated to Obama and others?

The Chicago way of doing business is corrupt. When you read the charges against the Governor they seem to parallel the Obamas. The Gov wants a board job for his wife similar to MO. There is the connection to the SEIC Union. Obama earmarked millions for the hospital that MO worked for. MO’s salary doubled after her BO became a US Senator.

Watergate took two years before President Nixon was forced from office. BO became the President-elect because the corrupt MSM abused their power and whitewashed all his dirty deeds.

    • Concerned Citizen

Agreed that was a little shady, but not illegal. Maybe it should be, but it is not. Fitzgerald looked at that land deal during the Rezko trial and determined no law was broken.

      • http://deleted Buzz Latte

However a grand jury is looking from the banking end of the Rezko land deal. Seems some bankers have decided to talk. Again, Obama is linked.

Maybe we should take Fitz at his word…the breadth of the corruption is staggering.

        • Galt

Public figures should never engage in behavior with even the appearance of impropriety. This is a violation of the public trust. They not only have to make sure their behavior is not illegal, but does not even hint of smelling unethical. The MSM should have pounced on the land deal but as we know…

Running on a do-good theme as a candidate of change, he swept into the governor’s office earlier this decade mainly on promises that he would be different, that he would restore integrity to the governor’s office after the previous chief executive, George Ryan, was sentenced to six and a half years in federal prison for racketeering and fraud.

“Tonight, ladies and gentlemen, Illinois has voted for change,” he told a crowd at his victory party on election night in 2002.

Please remember that the indictments handed down today are ONLY for wiretaps from October to the present. A.G. Fitzgerald has been working on putting all this together for THREE YEARS! “O” is not out of play! There is still much more that is being worked on. The bigger question is, “Can Fitzgerald pull it off BEFORE Jan. 20th?”
They are reporting also, that Jesse Jackson Jr. wanted to “buy” the seat for $500,000.00 with a promise of $1,000,000.00 once he had it! This rat needs to be in jail with Blagojevich! Isn’t it just as illegal to be trying to “buy” the Senate seat as to “sell” it?
Also, there is word that a grand jury has subpoenaed the records for the property deal “O” and Rezko were able to pull off.
Keep PRAYING, folks! It ain’t over till it’s over. I believe that Fitzgerald will do his best to see this thing through BEFORE “O” takes office and tries to remove him.

Paging the old and new Moss! Hey Moss, I was thinking somewhere between the two Moss’s, a place I am at, might be worthy of your consideration. As for the corruption..This is beyond the pal!
The fact that this Chicago thug Gov so blatantly abused his power makes me wonder what else is there. We know Obama gamed the system in many ways.
This revelation weakens Obama as it sheds light on all the abuses such as Acorn,Rezco campaign financing and all the promises Obama has broken to become president.
      Enough is enough!

      • Seattle Moss

I guess where I’m coming from tonight is that if the perception is established that obama is rooted in corrupt Chicago thug politics then he will be a weak president that uses up his valuable time fighting investigations and covering up and lying to the people.
We have had this too much in the past…I’m tired of investigations..Nixon..Clinton..Reagan..

Wheres it stop…This country needs to come together somehow!..We voted against Obama because he was the weaker candidate and his background was dubious and shrouded in secrecy.
Obama only won because of questionable fund raising with a complicit DNC and media.

I would like to see any president succeed. Obama may become the tabloid darling with leak after leak of information that was withheld during the campaign

I’m just shaking my head..Because it didn’t have to be this way.

I heard Blitzer ask, “How did Barack Obama manage to stay untainted?” as though he believes–or wants US to believe–that the Prez-elect is indeed somehow squeaky clean in the midst of the Chicago swamp! Sure, Obama has tried to shake off all the still-clinging ooze, stepping on faces left and right to climb out, but the gators are still growling. Blaggy, in particular, sounds to me like a creature with a very big mouth. No sensible person is going to truly believe that an intelligent, astute guy like Barack was uninvolved and unaware of what the Daley machine has going on. If he makes it to inauguration, his administration is going to be under a cloud darker than Watergate.

    • Citizen70

Blitzer and CNN ask how Obama could remain untainted because that’s the thought they’re trying to implant in the public’s mind. Although other news outlets are talking about the Illinois cesspool overall, CNN is portraying Blagojevich as a rogue miscreant and isolating him as the only evil person. Jeffrey Toobin of CNN just said that the fact that Blaggy was furious with Obama on the tapes is good news for Obama because it shows that Obama wouldn’t buy in. The question that the media should be asking is why Blagojevitch was furious. Could it be that this behavior was the norm and the expectation that Obama would participate was not outside of the norm? I hope he throws PEBO under the bus!

  • greenster

could be sitting on some…tapes…that are damaging to Obama.

Gee…where have I heard that before?

You have a one-track mind, Larry.

[cue English band Go West] “I’m the king of wishful thinking….”

    • KintheNorthwest

srry but the tapes the FBI have are already damaging to the Obama’s. And I think many are thinking OBama misspoke not Axelrod.

Another bit of Larry Johnson deja vu. Has anybody here noticed that nothing Larry attributes to anonymous, “in the know” sources ever comes true?

    • Lisa

Larry has been completely wrong on everything to do with politics on this website.

Not only just wrong, but terribly wrong.

The two most insulting have been the “whitey tapes” and his suggesting that Obama was faking is grandmother’s death for political gain.

A website full of conspiracies that never ever plays-out.

On this strand they are playing both the guilt by association game and are assuming Obama is guilty of something, whatever that is, before there are even any really acquisations about anything.

A real wacky conspiracy bunch. With this kind of thinking I have no idea how Larry was ever able to work for the CIA. I am glad this guy is no longer protecting this country with his terribly wrong insight and his inferences made based on speculation, innuedo, rumor, and conspiracy theory. Lets hope Larry’s ability to get a job at CIA does not reflect on all our intelligences officiers and hope they are making better decisions based on fact and not as Larry does.

I’m reserving judgement on anything Obama. Though I think we all know Chicago’s brand of politics.

    oy vey, Biden as President…

  • ford

I have a question. If you purchase one of BO’s commerative plates, should you serve food on it??? Or should you hang it up so people know you are not a racist.

  • Underdown

You people make me laugh. Sure, Obama is gonna step down and Biden will now be President. Uh-huh. Right. Oh, and there is still nothing on Obama with this matter. No proof. But hey, it’s on a blog, so therefore, what Larry Johnson writes MUST be true! That whole whitey tape sure panned out, eh?

    • Weener

Larry Johnson once again jumping the gun!

He continues to lose credibility, as he attaches himself to this conspiracy bunch.

  • ACPD

I feel as though this is the beginning of the end for BO. Like all pathological narcissists, he and his supporters think they are omnipotent and so special that even the laws of nature–let alone the laws of man–don’t apply to them. That’s why Blag would speak so openly on the phone.

It defines any logic or any understanding of reality to think that someone–namely BO–could be successful in IL politics and could be the ONLY one who isn’t corrupt. When the game of politics is run corruptly, then only those who play according to those rules is rewarded, supported and allowed to win.

Many of us pointed that out during the election, but part of buying into BO is buying into the emperor’s-new-clothes thinking. Now that it is becoming clearer that this emperor-elect, BO, is naked as a Chicago hooker, the truth will come out. It always does–sadly in its own time, but eventually the truth about BO and MO will come out.

Even so, his followers have bought so completely into his lies and fantasies that, as immature and unevolved individuals, they don’t have the strength of character or the intellectual honesty to admit that they made any mistakes or that they were sucked in by a fraud.

So, there is no reason to waste time and energy arguing with BO supporters; they are lost causes. The country–75 to 80% of whom did not support BO–is a different story. We need to focus on restoring honesty and integrity to public office and to our communities. That is worthwhile. Thank god for public servants like Fitzgerald. We are fortunate to have people like him and those working on this investigation still looking out for us.

I live in CT. We sent a governor and two mayors of major CT cities to jail for corruption. These investigations do matter and do help.

    • Bob

Eloquently written piece, but you are really saying nothing. Where is all the meaningful corruption regarding Obama that you talk about? You have no proof of anything, only guilt by association. If you have some actual facts, I will be 100% behind you.

I don’t think anyone is buying into anything, there are just those of us who decide not to make inferences and decisions based on rumors, innuedo, speculation and consiracy theories.

If you have or know of anything important about Obama that would disqualify him from being president why don’t you present it to the authorities? or post it on this website.

      • JudyR

“Guilt by association” is a close relative to “illegal cover-up.” At some point, it seems like it turns into “aiding and abetting.”

      • Mandelay

Why was the DNC moved to Chicago shortly after the election? Do you think “the combine” is gong national? Please read columns of John Kass in the Chicago Tribune for years of combine watching. Please read Evelyn Pringle’s series “curtain time for obama” (google it or find all the articles on the OpEd News site). Please stop defending the indefensible. And please get us Obama’s Illinois Senate records so that we can do some smacking good research. (He says they don’t exist!)

  • Murray

Governor Blogojevich wanted to make a deal with Obama re: the Senate appointment.
Obama doesn’t need to pay Blogo any more.
Blogo got pissed, said, “$#% them”.
    So…Obama has Blogo busted.
    Pretty simple.

  • KintheNorthwest

Where Obama made his mistake was not admitting that he talked to the Governor about his seat. Hey it was no big deal doing that. The big deal was if he was in on the buy….But now everyone is going to think he was in on the buy.

Im just wondering how many more lies the public is going to take from this guy.

When the news first hit about Ayers, Rizo, Wright and a few others he said he knew nothing and then OPPS…

Doesnt Obama realize that eventurally even his supporters are going to stop and wonder what is up.

    • Lisa

He never said he did not have his people talk to the Governor about his seat. This is exactly what he said:

Asked by a reporter if he was aware of the allegations involving the pay-to-play tactics to fill his Senate seat, Obama said: “I had no contact with the governor or his office, and so I was not aware of what was happening, and as I said it is a sad day for Illinois. Beyond that I don’t think it’s appropriate to comment.”

He was commenting on the investigation, not on whether his people had spoke to the Government on his seat.

CNN might want to ask why Obama moved the DNC headquarters to Chicago. After all, if Obama is going to be living in D.C. for the next 4, and they hope, hope, hope, even 8 years, then why move the party’s h.q. to the Chicago cesspool? CNN might want to “delve” into this. (Must wear hip boots … veddy messy and smelly!)

You know Larry, it makes me feel a lot better to know there is a CIA and an FBI in this country. Plus THE AMERICAN PRESS over at the TRIB. After what Blago tried to do to them. This is like Watergate but worse as we’ve all been watching.

The FBI and the FEC need to unpack all that $$$$$$$$$$ and frankly? Can any of us ever trust the Democratic Party again after all we have seen? Biden?

It should be Hillary and John McCain. We can TRUST THEM to run the country. We know who they are!

  • Cynical Again

For example, according to a source with direct knowledge…

Is it the same person who was the source of the whitey tape, Larry?

Or maybe it’s the same person as the “expert” who says Obama’s birth certificate is a fake.

Chicago Tribune: Governor’s wife supported his pay-to-play Senate scheme, complaint alleges

An unflattering portrait depicting Illinois First Lady Patricia Blagojevich as a modern-day Lady Macbeth who plotted against her husband’s perceived enemies and backed his corrupt schemes emerged in court documents connected to the governor’s arrest Tuesday.

Her alleged ambitions and brashness are outlined in a 76-page federal criminal complaint: She helped her husband hatch a plan to sell President-elect Barack Obama’s old U.S. Senate seat. She angled to trade her husband’s power for lucrative spots on corporate boards. And she unleashed an obscenity-filled tirade suggesting Tribune Co. ownership should “just fire” Chicago Tribune editorial writers if the company wanted the state to help it unload Wrigley Field to ease its crushing debt.

“Hold up that [expletive] Cubs [expletive],” she is quoted as saying in the background as her husband talked on the phone, authorities alleged. “[Expletive] them.”

The affidavit also alleges she participated in a two-hour conference call last month in which she, Gov. Rod Blagojevich and his aides discussed selling Obama’s seat in exchange for her placement on paid corporate boards. Patricia Blagojevich suggested she would be qualified for such positions because she has a background in real estate and appraisals, while the governor stated that he hoped she would pull in at least $150,000 annually to alleviate the family’s “financial stress,” according to the complaint.

Patricia Blagojevich famously feuded with her father after Mell accused the governor of pay-to-play politics in 2005, though they briefly reconciled after her mother’s death two years ago.

The first lady’s once-lucrative real estate career suffered after her most famous client, Antoin “Tony” Rezko, was convicted on political corruption charges. A Tribune investigation revealed she earned more than $700,000 in commissions on other deals after her husband began raising money in 2000 for his first gubernatorial campaign.

Of those commissions, the Tribune found more than three-quarters came from clients with connections.
