I only have had time now to read your post above: excellent work!! And very sharp questions indeed.

I supposed there is nothing wrong in principle with a senator and a governor to have a frank conversation about who are possible good candidates to fill his vacant seat. I would imagine that happens all the time, no?

But this is different for it is not just that Gotojailvich ( I mean Blagojevich ) was seeking some advise but that he was trying to exercise some quid pro quo.
If we assume the best that the BO was really “shocked” by this “extorsion” then
whi did BO through his advisors CONTINUE to exchange communications?
Or what seems more appropriate: negotiate?

The question is:

Who was the third party intermediary?

They evidentially had authority to make statements reflecting on Obama’s willingness (or lack thereof) to provide satisfaction in the matter, or at least they were perceived as such by Blagojevich’s side.

I’m not sure it was team Obama that set Blagojevich up, if only because the Governor might talked ala Rezko to avoid doing time. Whether or not this actually would implicate him may be beside the point. Obama has shown himself secretive on details of his life, so any revelations or chance of revelations would have to be a negative.

One more thought: it will be Obama who has full authority to tap phone calls, e-mails or blogs come January 20 on the premise they may be a security threat. Feeling safe now?
