The legacy of that was the political system Blagojevich inherited and is alleged to have abused when he came into office in 2003.

It doesn’t sound like he actually abused the “system”; the taxpayers and citizenry, of course, but not the “system” per se.

I long for the day when our public leaders will understand that “usual and customary”, or even “legal”, is not the same as “right”. We bemoan the lack of moral compass being inculcated to our youth, but we also afford far too many poor examples to them.
