Eyes Wide Shut

Watch the video below. RNC may have made that video but the progressives own this new Obama problem. We asked for full vetting of Obama in the Democratic primary but got nothing. Now as one famous preacher said the chicken are coming home to roost. This is not the Republicans starting a hunt [not yet] but Obama’s Chicago problems catching up to him. The progressives were warned but they went into it eyes wide shut*. Joe Conason at Salon is spinning the new old tale. The Villagers cry: it is Whitewater all over again, nothing to see here, move on. Bad, bad Republicans. The sad irony is that the Obama supporters used the Whitewater faux scandal in the primary against Hillary.

* Eyes wide shut — the phrase is originally a Stanley Kubrick’s movie title

  • beebop

The MSM is commenting about transparency as if we had seen any up until this point. When you go to the Salon article and review the comments (nearly 400 of them), it is clear (the only transparency apparent) that for a great number of Americans, this is only the latest mystery attached to the mystery candidate/resident. Perhaps we have Richard Nixon to thank for all of this. When was the last time we took our titular head of state at face value? After JFK’s murder his reputation was dragged through the mud so that now the only people who believe in his sainthood are the descendents of the Kennedy’s.

Don’t get me wrong. I think that questioning your head of state is “good.” Why is it then that we continue to vote for the smoke and mirrors guys? You can’t say we weren’t warned about Clinton and Bush. (I had no problems with Clinton and voted for him twice and most of us here did, but we knew what we were getting and he wasn’t the purest of candidates.) McCain versus 0bama? Day and night when it came to medical histories, educational information available, work records available, etc. I am not going to revisit the primaries. It’s too early in the morning to get my blood pressure that high.

But for people like Lynne Sweet to say that the opportunity for transparency is slipping away is pure f’ing bullshit. The MSM held McCain to a different standard because it was in love with the notion of 0bama. They have the dirt on their hands.

On the issue of transparency CNN’s article on the Madoff scandal comes to mind:

      4. Don’t stand for no or low disclosure. I was looking at my neighbor’s “statements” from Madoff and they were ridiculous. Nothing in them. Just “balance at the beginning of period,” “balance at the end” kind of stuff. Why bother with all the other numbers? What’s the matter, you don’t trust us?

The quote is in reference to how to avoid being scammed. “no or low disclosure” and don’t bother with the details stand out. Success in a con depends on a low demand for background, no matter what the enterprise.

Yes, Virginia, there is an honest politician.
He exists as certainly as unicorns exist, and you know that they abound and give to your life its highest beauty and joy. Alas! how dreary would be the world if there were no Honest Politician! It would be as dreary as if there were no Virginias. There would be no childlike faith then, no poetry, no romance to make tolerable this existence. We should have no enjoyment, except when incensed and ready to fight…

the Republicans don’t need to do anything at this point. Fitgerald just needs to make sure he does his job. If Obama insists on taking office knowing he is ineligible not to mention other damage that will be done by the uncovering of all of his illegal Chicago activites, then he will pay the price. Unfortunately the country will suffer as well

Morning Joe today is unbelievable. Joe and Mika and Buchanan and the regulars get it. But their guests …

John Heileman, NYMagazine: total surprise! nobody knew about Obama’s relationship with Blagojovich! This is new territory, this has never been covered. (Uh John … it WAS covered. In the Chicago papers.)

Carlos Watson, formerly of CNN: No, I don’t believe Emanuel’s quote to the New Yorker that Emanuel and Obama ran Blagojovich’s 2002 campaign. It can’t be true, because if Obama DID help run Blago’s 2002 campaign, “we would have heard about it in the media” before now. !?!?!? (Uh Carlos … it was in the New Yorker. But yes, we unfortunately agree it wasn’t in the media in the aggregate.)

To his credit, Time’s Mark Halperin said if a fraction of the reporters that were sent to Wasilla went to Chicago, none of this would be a surprise.

I am still processing McCain’s interview saying the RNC should back off on O because we have more important matters to think about.

Half of me wants to say that he’s wrong. The ONE lied and cheated his way into office. McCain could have been dealing with those problems instead without being sidetracked by scandal.

The other half of me says that he’s right. The One’s karma will catch up to him, and we do need to work on these problems. We do not need the RNC keeping the Republican members of Congress sidetracked from working on problems.

Please…………it’s not Hillary’s job to vet her opponent / it’s the MEDIA’S job & they FAILED!!!!!!!

    • It’s Not Me

Hillary would have been called a racist….AGAIN….had she fully exposed that SOB. The Chicago machine, Axelrove and the DNC would have completely destroyed her. NO ONE could say ANYTHING about BO and his past without being labeled a racist.

Now we’re seeing what what all that adulation by the MSM has wrought. Had they done their freakin’ job, we wouldn’t be talking about this right now. HILLARY, the candidate who actually WON the election, would be our Prez-elect. This is, once again, the MSM’s fault.

    • Diana L. C.

As I recall, during the primary Hillary made clear references to BO’s connection to Rezko. As a Democratic candidate, she couldn’t have done much more than that. It was the MSM’s duty to dig. We, here, all found out what she was talking about. If BO were brought under investigation about just that “little” land deal, he wouldn’t be where he is now.

Instead, the BO camp did their snarky little tu quoque defense (a logical fallacy) by pulling out a photo of Hillary in the same picture with Rezko, as if that meant she had the same kind of connection as he had. The very educated (of course I’m being facetious) progressives and the MSM bought it and blew off a chance to do some real research, just as they’re dong now.

If it doesn’t fit their current “narrative,” it’s not real as far as they are concerned.

You’d think they’re writing novels instead of reporting facts.

      • http://www.rabblerouserruminations.blogspot.com/ Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy

Remember during that one debate when Clinton DID bring up Rezko? The pro-Obama people started booing her, and Obama attacked her on Wal-Mart. So, yeah, they KNEW, they just didn’t want to ACCEPT the truth abt their Messiah.

Along those lines, just saw a report from inside a UAW hall in Detroit – they have a BIG, HUGE banner of Obama hanging in there. It is really, really disturbing.

        • Lyn

Actually Obama attacked her about the Wal;mart board first THEN she hit back about Rezko. BUT of course when most of the MSM played it they reversed the order, like nice sweet Barky was playing nice but had to hit back.
I never paid any attention to politics until that night. The reaction to Rezko made me curious so i googled Obama/Rezko, with in a day I knew more about Obama/Rezko/ Chi than the MSM has reported yet. I started out as a dem thrilled with our choices but preferring Hillary because of UHC. But after I looked into BO, I worked hard to get the news out but of course we all know how much good our emails to the MSM did.

        • jbjd

BO brought up Wal-Mart; HRC retorted with Rezko. (She should have retorted with MO and Treehouse, but…)

My teachers’ union endorsed BO. Can you imagine how hard it is to educate students in our public schools about the fact there is no President-Elect until January 8, 2009, when Congress certifies the EC vote on December 15, 2008; November 4, 2008 was all about electing Electors, not candidates; and, oh yes, no one has vetted BO as to Constitutional eligibility for POTUS!

  • clare bee

The progressives didn’t want Hillary because of her “baggage”, believing that she’ll be dealing with Bill’s shenanigans again. Now, before BO’s inauguration, Bill Kristol said on Fox last night that BO’s prospective administration is Bill Clinton’s 3rd term!!!!! full of scandals before he even sets his foot in the White House.

Bills’ was a witch hunt!!! BO’s have legs if Fitz really digs deeper into the Chicago mud!!!

    • Ferd Berfle

One of the many reasons I liked Bill Clinton was because the extremists on both sides hated him. He must have done something right to be the subject of such irrational hatred.

      • Bazooka

I am sure the same thing with happen to Obama, as Obama has always been in the center.

    • babamooie

IMO, this presidential election was bought and paid for, a series of kickbacks, and pay offs, the usual — just like IL politics, no different.

I know there are some who wouldn’t have supported a woman for President, no matter, but I have to wonder, also, if, in part, Clinton wouldn’t play the game, in terms of payoffs and graft?

(Not that she is perfect, but certainly Obama and the graft attached to him is almost without precedent).

I just can’ t figure out WHY the democrats chose Obama, why not someone at the very least a little cleaner, the warning signs were there.

By electing him, they’ve planted the seeds of their destruction, at the very least he will be hounded, and gamed with this, forever, really, every little Blago like exposure stepping on his toes.

Was the business sense this bad, this arrogant, the choice of Obama just another act of NY hubris from those who profited from the now dead gilded age?

      • Lyn

The picked Obama to stop Hillary. They needed an AA candidate because Hillary had a huge support among most AA (before Obama camp smeared them as racists) They needed someone that could take that block of voters away from her. They probably didn’t back someone cleaner because they needed someone willing so play as awful as camp Barky did, (who the MSM would pretend was playing clean and taking the high road). They (Dean, Pelosi Brazille) did not want the Clinton side of the party to win.

        • babamooie

I understand they wanted dirty, but I’m amazed they committed suicide, in chosing Obama.

But again, denial is strong, look at Blago and Rezko, KNOWING they were/are being watched, yet STILL dealing criminally.

I watched, yesterday, the special about New York, from it’s origins to it’s current incarnation (also a bit on the 9.11 attacks, the destruction of those buildings revolting. speaking of Eyes Wide Shut, looks like one of the other obvious problems is going to be biting Obama.

It does catch up with you EVENTUALLY. Obama thought he would be protected by the media, because, well, that’s what they’ve been doing. AND, he figured anything he did in the past, he would be shielded if he was the one in the Oval Office. We shall see if it makes it’s way to him for his involvement on these dirty goverment dealings abusing the citizens and tax payers dollars.

But Billie Boy Richardson’s play for pay scams looks like he is getting the attention now too of the FBI.

Grand Jury Probes Richardson Donor’s New Mexico Financing Fee

By Martin Z. Braun and William Selway

Dec. 15 (Bloomberg) — A federal grand jury is investigating how a company that advised Jefferson County, Alabama, on bond deals that threaten to cause the biggest municipal bankruptcy in U.S. history, did similar work in New Mexico after making contributions to Governor Bill Richardson’s political action committees.

The grand jury in Albuquerque is looking into Beverly Hills, California-based CDR Financial Products Inc., which received almost $1.5 million in fees from the New Mexico Finance Authority in 2004 after donating $100,000 to Richardson’s efforts to register Hispanic and American Indian voters and pay for expenses at the Democratic National Convention in 2004, people familiar with the matter said.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation asked current and former officials from the state agency if any staff members in the governor’s office influenced CDR’s hiring, said the people, who declined to be identified because the proceedings are secret. Richardson, who is President-elect Barack Obama’s designate for Commerce Secretary, has a staff of at least 30 people.

The union makes at least 15 million dollars every year now from state employees, they don’t do anything, but kick back 50-100K to Richardson’s PACS. Richardson does it EVERY WHERE.

        • I’m a Linda too

And that also includes his new Railrunner train that is costing the taxpayers minimum of 450 million dollars just to build that he gave to a contracter to build and increased in cost over 150 million dollars from the start. All this to make some contributors happy so the taxpayers get ripped off for a train that will probably stop operating shortly after starting this week.

Just heard in NYS that the Gov is asking for 4 billion more in taxes for next budget. NY is so far under in taxation that it will soon sink into the earth never to be seen again. He wants more payment into the biggest Medicaid program in the US and a “welfare umbrella increase” for the less fortunate. Translation: More handouts for those who don’t want to work and the many who move to this state that has no time period to become eligible for the welfare benies. The unions and the good ol’ boys in Albany have totally ruined any future for the Empire state. More businesses and residents will be fleeing. Soon their will be no one to tax and they will be forced to go bankrupt and reorganize themselves. It is a composite of what the whole country will become under the new rulers. This video is absolute garbage and another Republican attack just like during the election. If this is all the Republicans got in terms of solving the problems of this country, then that party should just go away.

There was nothing wrong with Obama supporting a fellow democrat in his own state many years ago. Nobody could have predicted at the time how BO was going to turn-out. The people of Illinois certainly did not as the voted this guy in twice. In fact, for the last year or longer Obama has been distancing himself from this scumbag.

Obama has done everything right as far as the investigation of BO is concerned. He did not cut any deals with this guy, sure his people talked to the governor’s office, but there is nothing wrong with that. By saying he was releasing all correspondents with the governors office he is also admitting that his people talked to the governor. Nothing wrong with that. Also, by releasing the correspondents he is also going a hell of a lot farther than the Bush Admin, who used Executive privledge at every turn.

I understand the strategy to try and pin something on Obama, but this is complete BS, as there are more important things to be focused on that this nit-picking BS. And it is digusting that the Republicans are starting this right off the bat. We need a president and a government that can solver our problems and not be distracted by the small-time BS. We do not need anymore Carl Rove’s or Whitewater BS.
