Calls for Rahm Emanuel’s Resignation

Times Online reports calls for Emanuel’s resignation as Obama’s Chief of Staff. I quote with emphasis:

THE bullish, foul-mouthed but effective Chicago arm-twister Rahm Emanuel has come under pressure to resign as Barack Obama’s chief of staff after it was revealed that he had been captured on court-approved wire-taps discussing the names of candidates for Obama’s Senate seat.

Emanuel’s presence at the heart of the scandal threatens to roil the president-elect’s administration as a Chicago prosecutor builds his corruption case against Rod Blagojevich, the Illinois governor.

Not only should Emanuel resign as Obama’s Chief of Staff; he should resign from the US House, where he is also Chair of the House Democratic Caucus. According to the Chicago Tribune, he is yet to vacate his House seat. I quote:

Though now working full-time on Obama’s transition, Emanuel has yet to resign his congressional seat. Illinois law has a different process for filling vacant House seats than Senate seats. When Emanuel resigns, a special election will be held for his replacement.

Emanuel should resign as Chief of Staff and as member of the US House, as sources have confirmed his involvement in the scandal surrounding Obama and Blagojevich. I quote the Chicago Tribune again:

One source confirmed that communications between Emanuel and the Blagojevich administration were captured on court-approved wiretaps.

Another source said that contact between the Obama camp and the governor’s administration regarding the Senate seat began the Saturday before the Nov. 4 election, when Emanuel made a call to the cell phone of Harris. The conversation took place around the same time press reports surfaced about Emanuel being approached about taking the high-level White House post should Obama win.

Emanuel delivered a list of candidates who would be “acceptable” to Obama, the source said. On the list were Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett, Illinois Veterans Affairs director Tammy Duckworth, state Comptroller Dan Hynes and U.S. Rep. Jan Schakowsky of Chicago, the source said. All are Democrats.

Promising to rid Congress of what she called a Culture of Corruption, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi stated the following after Democrats seized control of the House in 2006:

“The intention of our Founding Fathers was for Congress to be a marketplace of ideas. The Republicans have turned Congress into an auction house – for sale to the highest bidder. You have to pay to play. It is just not right.

“Democrats are leading the effort to turn the most closed, corrupt Congress in history into the most open and honest Congress in history.

Communicating with Blagojevich’s Chief of Staff, submitting a list of candidates Obama approved to Blagojevich through operatives and advisors and participating in conference calls in which Blagojevich was attempting to forge a “pay to play” deal with Obama and Jarrett, Emanuel is engaging in the “pay to play” practices Nancy Pelosi decried on January 6, 2006. If Democrats are truly committed to ridding the House of ethical clouds, cronyism and corruption, then Emanuel must resign as Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus.

He must also resign as Obama’s Chief of Staff, for Obama has promised “a new dawn of American leadership,” a new dawn that includes a “clean break from the broken politics of Washington.” Emanuel’s direct participation in conversations with Blagojevich reveals that Obama will never enact a clean break if Emanuel is one of his chief advisors. Barack Obama’s inability to disclose all communications between his staff and that of Blagojevich in a timely manner is also a sign that no clean break with the politics of the past will occur during an Obama administration.

I wonder if more calls for Emanuel’s resignation will surface. And if such calls surface, I hope they also include calls for him to resign from the US House. For not only should the White House be free of Emanuel’s corruption; Democrats in the House do not need to be tied to the scandal that is the “pay to play” politics of Washington, DC, and of inner city Chicago, where Democrats Rahm Emanuel, Rod Blagojevich and Barack Obama were schooled in the art of corrupt machine politics.

  • CamdenRave

Emanuel should resign because of an anonymous source? Shouldn’t you wait to at least hear what is on the tapes before calling on someone to resign? No really, shouldn’t you find out what Emanuel actually said?

    • http://noquarterusa.net/blog/ Truthteller

The Obamabot who insists on commenting first in every thread should learn to read before writing. According to the Times London Online, there have been calls for Emanuel’s resignation. That is what this article discusses.

      • CamdenRave

You’re bad at truth-telling. May I quote you? “He must also resign as Obama’s Chief of Staff”. That’s you speaking for you. And this is the only thread I have ever been the 1st one to comment in.

        • http://noquarterusa.net/blog/ Truthteller

I happen to agree with the calls the Times Online reports. But the subject of the diary are the calls the Times Online reports, not my personal opinion.

          • trixta

Damn straight, Truthteller! Just ignore the besotted Kool-Aid Obots. They’re too far gone in their Obamautism.

And thanks for your latest reporting!

I wonder if Obama himself is putting the pressure on Emmanuel via his MSM minions to resign as a way of putting some distance between himself and this Mother of a scandal. It wouldn’t be the first time BO threw someone close under the bus, now would it?

            • http://noquarterusa.net/blog/ Truthteller

I just cannot believe there is all this scandal, and Obama is not even in office. It is really a sign of weakness. And Emanuel’s dealings with Blagojevich has elicited calls for his resignation. I do not see how this is good for the United States. I guess Emanuel should resign.

              • trixta

Emmanuel should resign simply on the basis of the perception of inappropriate dealings or conversations with the Governor. This would be the right thing to do, but . . . .

On the other hand, if RE stays on the BO team the story will be kept alive and thus might shed some light on BO’s role in this whole affair.

                • Ks Girl

BO’s role in this whole affair.

At the very least, BO is guilty of turning his head the other way from the corruption of the Chicago Machine he is amidst.

I truly believe Obama is a pay to play politic himself. His house deal with Rezko and Blago’s wife as the Realtor. His being a member for 20 years in a Church that spews hate, BO looking the other way, until it became politically expedient, and how did Trinity get all those millions from tax payers????

Truthteller, RE and BO will take the Chicago Machine to Washington and this scandal is just the tip of the iceberg.

RE and BO are two peas in a pod along with Daley, Rev. Wright, Jesse Jr and all the rest of them.

At this point, is there a chance will we ever be free from the whole mess of them?

                • NoBamaNoWay

frankly, i don’t want emmanuel to resign if barky isn’t going down, too. i’m tired of the faux outrage and forcing the “little guy” to take the fall, while the big fish, who’s as crooked as the day is long, goes free. it seems like a charade where we use the little guy to “teach people a lesson,” but when the person higher up goes free, the only lesson that is taught is that if you have enough power you can get away with anything.

                  • beebop

The only reason Rahm will go down is because 0bama can’t.

                • babalu123

Emanuel is just as guilty as Blogo, they were working on illegal deals, and Emanuel was for sure discusing thos with Obama, there is no other way!!!

              • elise

Someone on FOX suggested Emanuel uses the same “street” language of Gov. Blagojevich and that in itself would cause embarrassment.

              • lark

It is really a sign of weakness

Is a sign to the millions that voted for him that he is about to screw them good.

            • okasha skatsi

Obama has two problems here. One is Emmanuel’s probable reluctance to take on the role of scapegoat. The other is what might happen if he does agree to take the fall, then changes his mind and gives up his boss.

              There’s a possible lose-lose for Obama here.

              • lark

Absolutely. He will not give him out but the Dems will not trust him anymore, ever. You just don’t do that to someone you just appointed two weeks ago who has worked his arse for him for ove two years.

                The man is despicable.

Shouldn’t we hold off on asking for bush’s impeachment until an autographed photo of bush with his hand in the cookie jar, lying about the war in Iraq surfaces?

      Naw, didn’t think so.

The “new progressives”; same as the “new conservatives”…they just can’t figure the shit out.

I am SICK of AMerican politics, and Americans continually falling for the media propangada, and the Tools they promote..i.e. uhbama and teh shrub.

And uhbama and bush are most certainly tools with a capital T.

Speaking of GWB, it was reported that he had a shoe or two thrown at him by a reporter at the podium in Iraq. This is how low GWB has taken the office of the presidency.

Just imagine what depths it will be taken to once Obama is president.

      • lark

I am SICK of AMerican politics

What makes American politics sickening is not the naivete of the double speak but what it costs to each and every citizen in taxes and future wellbeing. People are exchanging their freedom for immediate gratification.

    • shano

No Larry Johnson does not have to really check out any information in order to try and slime Barack Obama or any of his team.

For all Larry knows, Rahm might have been the guy who turned in Blago to Fitzgerald. That is as good a guess as anything Larry Johnson has written about this.

Fitz is saying Obama is not under any investigation. I guess Larry knows more about this than Mr. Fitzgerald?

      • beebop

Fitz is saying 0bama is not under any investigation.

        Duh.

Have you ever worked in a prosecutor’s office?

Report back when the investigation is CONCLUDED. It ain’t over until everyone looks like a canary.

        • babalu123

For now… We dont know all about this FROUD by Obamas clan and more is to come. I hope that Fitz will get all before January 20th.

      • FembotsForObama

Let’s just suppose that Rahm and Obama were cooperating with Fitzgerald, and that Rahm had informed Fitzgerald of Jarret’s complaint that Blago was extorting bribes for the senate seat…

then WHY did Obama say that neither him or anyone from his office had talked with Blago? What good would telling an easy disprovable lie (taped telephone conversations) do? Unless Obama et al. were trying to get rid of Jesse Jackson Jr. because Obama’s lie has led to a spotlight being put upon Jackson Jr. But then we must ask why they were trying to get rid of Jackson Jr.

Nope, makes more sense that Obama is so used to lying and not getting caught that they told an easily disprovable lie in the first place.

Obama was so tied to Rezko who is so tied to Blago that Blago knows something and Obama was involved in the scheme of getting money into Blago’s coffers as payback because everyone knew that Blago’s political career was over.

This is the reason I believe that the DNC headquarters was moved to Chicago in the first place.

        • babalu123

I just wonder if all those Young voter are opening their eyes, and start to see for whom they voted??? What about all those poor black people in Chicago, do they still believe that Obama will upgrate their lifes??? He didnt, while He was Senator of Illionois. We all have right to choose President, but somehow maybe we did choose (maybe) the wrong one again!!! We would not go thorough this whole mess if we use OUR common sense, and stand up for Hillary. All politicians have dirt behind, but what we see now is truly ugly!!! I vote for Obama, and give Him chance, but as I see now, I was wrong as hell, seams that He is the most corrupted as we ever see in USA Presidential ellection. Whitewatre (Clintons affair” is nothing compare , what we are seeing now, beside They came clean. Watergate was a joke, to what we are seeing in last 8 years!!! It is our own foult, because we are so naive. Term limits for Senators must be permanent, we must see new blood a new people in OUR Gopvernment, new ideas , and we must hold them accountable in 1000%.

    • sjc-tx

Emanuel delivered a list of candidates who would be “acceptable” to Obama,

Well obama should be resigning too then… obviously obama and emanual “discussed” all this thus making obama JUST AS GUILTY! It does not matter if obama was taped or not!!!!

  • KintheNorthwest
    • Diana L. C.

No one in the DNC listened to Hillary when she pointed out her experience, knowledge, and her plans. AND, they also didn’t listen to her when she pointed out how she had been vetted (i.e, they were not going to get much more traction from Whitewater) and that Obama had not been vetted. This is what she meant: Obama’s presidency will be crippled by this type of scandal. It is not over by a long shot. I am not a fan of the RNC any more than than I am a fan of the DNC. But, the Democrats really played into the hands of the RNC with their “selection” of THE ONE.

I can’t wait until the We Will Not Be Silenced movie hits the theaters–at least maybe the art theaters.

I did, at one point, want a Democratic President. Now I want an honest President, who really believes in one person, one vote, one who believes politicians work for us, not themselves. When that happens, I’ll probably be history already myself.

      • http://noquarterusa.net/blog/ Truthteller

I agree. Although I am a Democrat, I cannot and will not support corruption or machine politics.

        • Ferd Berfle

I left the Democratic Party after 32 years as a member but refuse to join the Republican Party. The reasons are many but boil down to two important ones: both are essentially controlled by extremists who don’t (or won’t) concentrate on the common good and both are far beyond any sort of repair.

        • Dawnelle

I was an Independent until I started making our film and got deeply involved with Dems, the DNC and Fraudbama. I would cut my dogs bellies open and suck out their gizzards before I would ever vote for a Dem in ANY position, EVER, for the rest of my life. Not a prayer. I am GOP for life.

            • trixta

Come on! As long as the GOP is run by the Neo-cons they are just as bad. Extremism in both Parties is the problem. Bill and Hill have known this all along — so have McCain and, most recently, Palin, for that matter.

              • Peggy Sue

I agree, Trixa. It’s the “fringe” of both parties that are unacceptable. I voted for McCain this year, “not” the Republican party. As long as the religious right and Neo-cons hold sway, the Republicans replse me. But I could say the same for the progressive-regressive, PC camp on the Dem side.

So, what I found out this year is that I’m a Moderate for life. I don’t give a rat’s ass whether it’s Dem or Republican or whatever party that may develop in the future. I reject the extremes, regardless of the direction.

                • http://www.wewillnotbesilenced2008.com OBAMA IS A FRAUD

‘pretty boy in the hood’? Wow at least you are a proud racist!
Larry johnson attracts the most interesting comments.

            • JozefAL

Hey, Obamabot. Exactly HOW was that “racist”? From the use of “boy”? Well, suck it up, troll. If a woman in her 30s, 40s, 50s, or older, can be a “girl”, then a 47-year-old man can certainly be a “boy”.
We use “boy” in a lot of senses: “The old boys’ network”; “the boys of summer”; “the boys’ club”; “good ol’ boy”; “mama’s boy”. NOT A SINGLE ONE OF THOSE IS “RACIST” IN APPLICATION.
Also, since Barack IS actually HALF-WHITE, he’s not entitled to object to ANY “racist” usage (even more so since he and his buddies were more than happy to cry “racist” at every opportunity during the campaign, even on the most trivial of matters).
Was it “pretty boy”? It’s funny since no one finds it objectionable when referring to an attractive WHITE man. I suppose it’s only “racist” if men of color are excluded from contention?
Or was it because of “in the hood”? Well, many African-American male performers (aka, “rappers”) have no problem discussing their coming “from the ‘hood” (or using “hood” in the title of their CD releases–at least a dozen rap CDs, including several by prominent, successful rappers, use “hood” in the title). African-American film director came to prominence with a film (about African-Americans) called Boyz n the Hood. And, since Barack joined Trinity Church partly to embolden his sense of “blackness”, I doubt he’d be upset at being part of “the hood”.
So, what exactly was racist about the comment? And, don’t be afraid to be specific. Specificity seemed to be very elusive when the cries of “racism” were being flung at his critics from Obama’s supporters. It seemed that the only thing needed for “racist!” to apply was not kowtowing before The One. And, if you can’t be specific, I’d suggest you go bugger yourself (or, you could always get an Obama cutout and lick it from head to toe, spending extra time on the just-below-the middle of the backside).

            • http://ezinearticles.com/?Three-Basic-Parenting-Styles&id=744499 Northwest rain

How do we know IT is a troll — because the only thing it knows how to shout is “racist”.

Problem is that your fraud candidate isn’t from the hood — he a rich frat guy who has pulled the biggest con job in the history of this nation. He is bi-racial — culturally white. He is someone who appears to be of color.

So my guess is that when anyone calls him from the hood — they are just being snarky. Downtown Honolulu is NOT the hood.

You trolls are sexists pigs. Every single one of you jerks are sexist pigs.

          • FembotsForObama

            lark,

I certainly feel vindicated. Especially after all the time of being called a racist :)

Anyone who read the Chicago newspapers and had half a brain could see this corruption coming to fruition at some point. The level of corruption in Chicago and Obama’s involvement with it, while calling himself the most transparent nonpolitical politician is one of many reasons I could not support him.

And it was at least obvious to me that the GOP was setting up the Dems for the biggest fall. Why did an estimated 10 million Republicans not show up to vote?

The only reason Obama got as far as he did was the complete complicity of the media.

    • PKJayne

mel, hope you don’t mind I copied some of your posts from the other day to one of the diaries……..The 2016 Olympics were brought up. As I recall you had a great synopsis going on your blog about them…. :)

      • mel

        No problem PK.

Something to ponder from all of this is Blago being pissed over the offer to head the “Change to Win” foundation in 2 years, anyone wonder why, after Blago said it might not exist in 2010?

One simple answer for it is if Chicago loses the bid for the 2016 games, then the solidarity of the Unions formed to get some ease in obtaining the 2016 Games will no longer be of any use and thus Blago would have nothing to go to in order to pocket his monies.

Take a look also at the names Emanuel gave Blago on the list of Obama approved Senate replacements, all of them are connected to the 2016 games in one form or another.

    • Andy

      mel:

Anyone thinking Emanuel went to Blago on his own is nuts, he was a stooge doing the same old bidding Obama has mastered since being a community organizer in letting others do the speaking after he provides the direction of the conversation, then Obama sits on the sidelines and watches the outcome.

Exactly. You are absolutely 100% correct.

    • derridog

Right. Getting rid of Emanuel is to ignore the elephant in the room, which is Obama. Of course, E did not go to Blagojevich with a list of Obama’s approved Senatorial candidates without approval and instructions from Obama. If he had done so, Obama would have fired him already instead of lying and trying to cover this up.

Simple logic. They both need to resign.

    • Chris

That is extremely unlikely. Why did Fitzgerald not let this hit the fan before the election or even early in the campaign before Obama was nominated? He already was investigating Rezko then and had plenty of ammunition to work with. It would have saved this country a world of hurt that it now faces. If he had brought this out, Obama would have had a real hard time getting by all the suspicion and would have had to spend a lot of time defending himself while trying to run his campaign no matter what the msm did. Fitz has to watch his back just like the rest of them in that pit of vipers slithering around in Chicago. He has done some good stuff, but has chosen which battles to fight, very carefully. If the man does take on our pe, then I give him all the kudos in the world. I have real big doubts it will ever happen anytime soon or at all. Obama will be tarnished, but not taken out by this round of issues.

On the other hand, by letting the crooks have their way, previously unknown ways of cheating have been observed. Sort of like the revelations of 9/11 about living in a dream of security.

      • MrMike

Like any good prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald isn’t going to bring anybody up on charges unless he has an airtight case. That kind of case takes time to develop. He won’t go after Rahm unless he can nail his hide to the wall.

    • shano

Fitz aready said that Obama was not under investigation.

For all Larry Johnson knows, the Obama team turned Blago in. You all are a bunch of conspiracy nuts.

I hope Obama hires Fitz to investigate Bush, Rumsfield, and Cheney.

Fitz is honest, and he told you all an honest truth about Mr. Obama and yet….here you all are. I guess Hillary will have to come out with a statement before you all are satisfied. HAHA

      • http://noquarterusa.net/blog/ Truthteller

Obama is not the subject of that particular indictment, but he is mentioned a second time in an indictment. And yes, that information is relevant to the investigation. And by the way, information about Obama was accepted as relevant by Judge St. Eve during the Rezko trial.

Does it not bother you that Obama appears and reappears in all these indictments and criminal complaints? Or is that the reason you cast a vote for him?

That is why all of this stuff has been studiously ignored by the press. It was sitting for all to see in the county real estate records. It was also apparently put in trust so this stuff would be harder to track. The Obamatrons screamed “everybody puts their house in trust”. It is actually quite rare to do that unless someone is a minor or incompetent in most states. Who is surprised that a low income federally insured loan was given to a Chicago pol?

    • TeakWoodKite

Juan, Is it the name of the trustee for the Trust that BO used to purchase the house?

William Miceli, a former supervisor of Obama’s when he worked at the David Law Firm.

    • noproblama

Not that I wouldn’t believe anything connected with corrupt Chicago dealings, but I think that has to be a recording error.

Fannie and Freddie don’t actually lend, they purchase loans on the secondary market that fit their guidelines. And one of those guidelines is loan limits.

Plus I think I read Obama’s loan was one of the bank’s portfolio programs, which means they keep it on their books, and that he got it well under market rates at the time.

There’s no doubt plenty of shenanigans connected with the purchase of his house but I’d be really surprised if this is one of them. It would be too easy to make an incredible stink about.

Ferd…I’m at the point of really HAVING HAD ENOUGH. I have been frigging miserable that America is this stupid. But every goddamned frigging day there’s some NEW insult to our country, Constitution and intelligence. I really have HAD IT. I barely remember the 60′s because I was born in ’62. But I am getting REALLY EDGY and ready to do what those young people did…defend this country at the cost of my own body, life and limb. This has started to get RIDICULOUS.

            • shano

You were born in ’62? And you chose Larry Johnson to be a source of good information on politics in America? Better range a bit farther afield. There is a reality that knows the next administration will have to clean up after the worst president in American history.

It does no good for anyone to try and predict how an Obama administration will go. But I could bet with confidence it will be better than the last 8 years.

Larry Johnson is just an rotten loser. Having Hilary as SoS should please him, but he cannot get over something, I do not know what that is but he is a bitter man. He could be doing you, the young of this generation, and the nation a lot of good. But instead he keeps on with these sour grapes, lies and smears about Obama 44.

Glad Hillary has more class and intelligence than Larry.

    Truthteller et al.

I strongly disagree Emmanuel should resign: he talked on behalf of Barack Obama and it is an easy way out and an incredibly unfair one to bring Emmanuel down so that Barack Obama remains as he likes to paint himself “above all politics and everyone” and void of any responsibility.

    NO WAY.

Before Emmanuel’s resignation I want to see other heads roil.

    Besides:

I want Emmanuel in the White House for Hillary.
Make no mistake Hillary Clinton needs Emmanuel as an ally in an Obama, Rice and Jones (who is being reported today as being incredibly hostile towards Israel in the JPost and with evidence from a source who had a 2 hours intimate discussion with Gen. Jones).

I want Emmanuel in the White House for the US-Israel longtime relationship sake.

So, no I do not want Emmanuel to resign. And he should. Obama should step up and take the responsibility instead of being a coward and dumping all this manure only into Emmanuel.

    • http://noquarterusa.net/blog/ Truthteller

No one claims Obama is innocent. But thus far we know Emanuel engaged with Blagojevich, and we know he is recorded in conversations obtained by FBI wiretap. We also know Emanuel is avoiding reporters.

I am sure Israel has many allies in the US other than Emanuel, who in my opinion should resign, as he is now stained with corruption.

      • Andy

And so is Obama: after all on whose behalf was Emmanuel talking to Blagojevich?? By that logic, Obama should resign as well. Making Emmanuel fall is a dandy way for Obama to wash his hands like Pontius Pilate.

NO, he is the one that needs to come clean. Emmanuel goes and this whole affair is swept under the rug and Obama once again gets away with it. People better wake up.

And no, unfortunately there are NO friends of Israel in Obama’s top Adm. places, except Hillary. The reports about Gen. Jones hostile ideas are truly appalling not to speak of Susan Rice and co.

        • Andy

And it is not just friends of Israel: Emmanuel is the only possible ally Hillary has altogether close to Obama’s WH. For everything.

          • Linda C.

I don’t think Hillary and Rahm get along very well

      OT, sorry.

I hope this isn’t true, but really, I took the anti Israel rhetoric seriously, the stuff coming from the kooks like Power, and McPike during the campaign.

Do you see the thread, the common theme of Obama’s intellecutal poser group?

They are speciously blaming Israel for the ME conflicts, when the situation is far far far more complex than simply placing blame, citing a couple of military, neocon type Israelis waging an ill gotten war is NOT seeing the bigger picture. We were stuck with Bush and Cheney for eight years, yet certainly they don’t define America.

Washington should KNOW better than this, and Clinton really is needed to balance the situation out.

Israel gets gamed, too, if a guy like Jones can’t see it, how can he blame others?

      • Andy

        It is true babamole.

This was reported today in the Jerusalem Post:

People who have been in close contact with Obama’s foreign policy transition team have privately acknowledged that the widespread belief that Obama will move swiftly to put the screws on Israel is fully justified. According to one source who has spent a great deal of time with the transition team since last month’s US elections, Obama’s people are “scope-locked” on Israel.

The source reports that Gen. Jim Jones, Obama’s designated national security adviser, is Israel’s most outspoken critic. The source, who held a two and a half hour meeting with Jones, told his associates that Jones is keen to deploy NATO forces, perhaps including US troops, to Judea and Samaria.

Jones’s plan, which is vociferously opposed by the IDF, would make it impossible for the IDF to carry out counterterror operations in the areas. As a practical matter, the lives of hundreds of thousands of Israeli citizens who live in the areas would be imperiled. Just as Hizbullah has used UNIFIL forces in south Lebanon as a shield from the IDF behind which it has rearmed and reasserted control over the border zone, so too a NATO force would facilitate an empowerment of Hamas and Fatah, which would unify, arm and organize free from the threat of IDF counterterror operations.

Jones’s plan is not new. In a 2002 interview, Samantha Power – who has been one of Obama’s closest foreign affairs advisers for years and now serves as a member of his transition team for the State Department – called for US forces to be deployed to Judea and Samaria as “a mammoth protection force” to protect the Palestinians from Israel, which she claimed was guilty of “major human rights abuses.”

Apparently others are claiming calls for his resignation have been made. That is why the Times Online published this statement.

Emanuel’s unwillingness to engage with reporters raises a lot of questions. And I am personally uncomfortable with this dealings with Blagojevich and Harris.

Obviously we only know half the story, and I look forward to reading more. But I do not know if it is in my interest to have a President whose Chief of Staff in the center of a huge scandal. That is why I think he should resign. He should do it for the country.

      • Andy

But the country better realize what kind of president it has elected. This gets of the radar w/Emmanuel’s resignation now and people will continue erecting monuments in awe of Obama.

First Obama comes clean and blames HIMSELF makes himself responsible.
Then Emmanuel can come in and say he will resign for teh “good of teh country” but NOT before Obama takes responsibility. Emmanuel was not dealing w/Blago out of his own initiative. It was as an emissary of Obama.

Not sure why my comments are not posting, but this was my reaction to Truthteller’s post:

The amazing and consistent line of the Obamatrons has been: Obama has been vetted more than any other candidate in history.

The purpose of this chant was simple–say it enough times and we’ll make it a known and an accepted fact in the public mind.

What we’re seeing and hearing now exposes the manipulated fiction. Obama was never vetted, except by a small cadre of investigative reporters who could not get national traction for the information they’d diligently collected, crosschecked and verified. Fortunately, Patrick Fitzgerald has been collecting the info for a legal case, which is beginning to bear fruit [and sorry-ass conspirators].

Should Rahm resign? Should we cheer another body under the bus? Gov. Blago, Jessie Jackson Jr. and the list will go on and on and on.

What I want is that the bus and bus driver be put in dry dock, permanently, and we get our country up and running with all gears firing. What I fear is another example of Obama “running out the clock.”

It seems to be Obama’s special signature.

  • (trying to get over it)

seems like blago was set-up, maybe by O himself; the AG and O then call for his removal…why? nullify knowledge blago holds of O?

    • babamooie

In some ways, Blago strikes me as the nutty ex girlfriend, (or ex boyfriend) maybe a Betty Broderick, that type. Perhaps he didn’t take the Obama “election” very well, feeling it was his position, feeling left behind, enraged, a trouble maker for Obama.

His father in law apparently has no use for him, either –

But they’re ALL guilty, even if this was engineered v Balgo, it doesn’t seem very tight, kind of sloppy, I lose more and more confidence in Obama and his staff, everyday. His lack of abilty to respond to this crisis, as well as the auto thing, is telling, but he never had to handle any incendiary issues during the campagin, the press covering for him. It’s a little different in the White House. (Who was Clinton’s guy? Mike McCurry? He was good…)

  • yttik

I can’t stand Rahm, but I still don’t want him to resign. He may not have done anything wrong anyway, but if he did, resigning is like a cover up, like passing the buck. Obama can just toss another one under the bus and avoid taking any responsibility himself. Rahm was acting on behalf of the the President elect and if he did anything wrong, the one who sent him should take responsibility. LOL, of course that would be different. Might even call it “change”.

I have to disagree. I so no basis for Emmanuel to resign. There is nothing inappropriate with the outgoing Senator submitting a list of people he thinks would be appropriate to replace him. Everyone is lobbying for that seat (as well as Senator Clinton’s). It’s a different story if Obama paid bribes to ensure his selection; that has not been alleged or proven. On the contrary, according to the federal complaint, Obama offered only his appreciation.

    • Ferd Berfle

If any elected official knew about such a scheme on the part of the blago to “sell” the seat to the highest bidder, it was his duty as an elected official to report it. No excuses on that one.

    • http://www.wewillnotbesilenced2008.com OBAMA IS A FRAUD

Yeah, right Cynthia. And if McCain did it? Or Bush? ROFLMAO. One of these days the Obots will stop the double standard CRAP.

    • AnnieO

      I don’t think so:

On November 12, 2008, ROD BLAGOJEVICH talked with Advisor B. ROD
BLAGOJEVICH discussed with Advisor B his idea for a 501(c)(4) organization. Advisor
B stated that he likes the idea, but liked the Change to Win option better because, according
to Advisor B, from the President-elect’s perspective, there would be fewer “fingerprints” on
the President-elect’s involvement with Change to Win because Change to Win already has
an existing stream of revenue and, therefore, “you won’t have stories in four years that they
      bought you off.”

      • http://noquarterusa.net/blog/ Truthteller

Thank you, annie O. I am glad someone has read the criminal complaint.

        • AnnieO

This whole thing is actually much easier to follow, with all of that Individual A and Advisor B language, by reading the whole thing.

Another point many seem to ignore is the intro that states that the information in the complaint is this very important point on page 7:

Because this affidavit is submitted for the limited purpose of securing a
criminal complaint and corresponding arrest warrants, I have not included each and every
fact known to me concerning this investigation.

          • AnnieO

            Oops, it’s actually page 5.

          • AnnieO

Ugh, so sorry, but it should say–Another very important point many seem to ignore is on page 5

    • oowawa

      Obama offered only his appreciation.

Did O promise his “appreciation,” or did he promise his (pause) “Appreciation!” (wink), because the (pause) “Appreciation!” (wink) of a sitting President can be an extremely valuable commodity. It appears that Blago wanted something much more specific. Evidently he felt he had reason to doubt O’s reliability in coming through on a vague promise.

      • shano

Blago did not even get a time slot at Obamas convention!

Obama knew what kind of guy he was before this happened. They were never running in the same circles, and he is not the type of guy that the Obamas would have anything to do with.

Larry Johnson writes a bunch of conspiracy crap to slime Obama.

        • http://www.wewillnotbesilenced2008.com OBAMA IS A FRAUD

          shano…STFU troll.

        • KathyNeocon

Larry Johnson writes a bunch of conspiracy crap to slime Obama.

Barry takes care of his own slime cover. In fact I just finished watching Alien, and Obama reminds me a lot of the Alien. They have a lot of similarities.

          • http://www.wewillnotbesilenced2008.com OBAMA IS A FRAUD

No one, not even LJ, has to “write” anything to “slime” Fraudbama. The Fraud is so incompetent and mentally deranged that he really doesn’t NEED help to fry his own gay bacon.

            • KathyNeocon

Yeah, one thing about the Alien in the movie that really struck me as Obama-like was all that slime coming out of his mouth and his multiple sets of teeth. Eeeewwww

  • Peggy Sue

Can’t seem to get a comment posted on this thread, but I’ll try one more time.

The Obamatrons have been chanting from the start: Obama has been vetted more than any other candidate in history.

What we’re witnessing exposes the fiction of that endless claim. He was never vetted to any credible degree beyond a small cadre of journalists who never got the national traction their work deserved. HRC tried to open the door when she mentioned Rezko. She was booed for the effort, said to be desperate in shining some light on Obama’s Chicago connections.

Should we applaud another body being thrown under the bus? Rahm, Gov. Blago, Jessie Jackson, Jr. and the list will go on and on and on.

What I want is the bus and bus driver put in moth balls, permanently. Why I want is the country to get back on its feet with a leader I can trust in the driver’s seat.

    Wishful thinking?

My fear is that Obama is again running out the clock.

It seems to be his personal signature.

  • Ferd Berfle

The Obamatrons have been chanting from the start: Obama has been vetted more than any other candidate in history.

I’d just like to know one thing–where this pretender was born. They didn’t even vet him that far. Bots are so transparent, you can spit through them.

    • Peggy Sue

Obama is “a citizen of the world,” a leader for all seasons and all people.” The Messiah doesn’t need to prove where he was born. And, certainly, we’ve been told enough times that we have a figging nerve even to inquire.

Who else has been questioned of citizenship qualifications, Obamatrons have declared indignantly.

Of course, another question would be: when was there a need to ask about a simple bc, a baseline requirement for POTUS?

Silly us for asking the obvious: where’s the documentation? Where are the man’s medical record, academic records from Columbia and Harvard? Where is his written record?

Oh, that’s right. We’re suppose to take it on faith.

The Messiah says it’s true, therefore all is well.

So, why do I feel this persistent anxiety?

Guess that’s what the koolaid is for.

  • oowawa

I know Rahm is projected as the tough-guy foul-mouthed enforcer, but I have a hard time reconciling that image with his former avocation as a ballet dancer. Now, as these calls for his resignation are heard, I cannot help but picture it as the last act of a ballet, the haughty Emperor O standing in his royal robes, pointing coldly towards the exit, and Rahm in his tights, crushed, flitting offstage in despair. For a look at Rahm in full ballet regalia, check it out:

    http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/arts/2008/11/16/2008-11-16_rahm_emanuels_role_as_pointe_man_means_n.html

    • Ferd Berfle

I used to like ballet. No more. That was too scary for words.

    • AnnieO

The guys at Hillbuzz say that he has other hidden talents, too.

      • http://www.wewillnotbesilenced2008.com OBAMA IS A FRAUD

I think Fraudbama is well aware of Rahm-the-Serial-Killer’s other talents. You know, between us gals.

  • beachnan

Seems like the Chicago Corruption Show is just beginning. Get your popcorn and a comfortable chair and enjoy the show. I would hate to see Rob go, if it gets BO off the hook. BO must be exposed for the pay to play guy he has always been. BTW, when I think of pay to play, I think about how BO paid off the superdelegates to insure their support. I also think about how BO moved the DNC to Chicago, and demanded that all donations be funneled through his campaign, thus insuring that he had control of the purse strings. If a dem running for office wasn’t a BO supporter, no money for him/her. Isn’t this just another form of pay to play?

    • oowawa

If a dem running for office wasn’t a BO supporter, no money for him/her. Isn’t this just another form of pay to play?

Yes indeed, beachnan, good point. He’s making a list–he’s checking it twice: he’s going to find out who’s hopey and nice–

      And if you’re NOT . . .

  • stodgie

you know the truth is obama can’t afford for rahm to resign for a number of reasons. and i don’t yet see the media including faux in any type of outrage demanding anything. so i don’t see him resigning. the future should be interesting.

      • http://donnadarko.wordpress.com donna darko

        Get some sleep, Truthteller.

  • mph

Truthteller, you are not using critical thinking skills here:

“Communicating with Blagojevich’s Chief of Staff, submitting a list of candidates Obama approved to Blagojevich through operatives and advisors and participating in conference calls in which Blagojevich was attempting to forge a “pay to play” deal with Obama and Jarrett, Emanuel is engaging in the “pay to play” practices Nancy Pelosi decried on January 6, 2006.”

Your conclusion isn’t logical. Submitting a list of candidates that Obama likes does not necessarily mean it was pay to play. As I understand it, the US Attorney’s indictment of Blagojevich said he was trying to “sell” the office, make a personal gain,i.e. get something back for going along with whomever, a quid pro quo. Just because Obama / Emmanuel made some suggestions doesn’t mean they intended to give something back to Blagojevich.

Get a grip here. I wasn’t an Obama supporter either, but at some point you have to lose the venom that has infected your brain !!!

    • http://noquarterusa.net/blog/ Truthteller

I think you need to reread the criminal complaint. according to the complaint, an offer of a position to “change to win” was made. and blagojevich hoped to implant the idea of a 501(c)(4) in the mind of a “President-elect advisor” who was also concerned about the fifth Congressional district seat. Either one can ignore what is typed in the criminal complaint submitted by the FBI, or one can analyze it. moreover, one must also ask why someone in an administration of a President who claims he will end politics as usual is recorded participating in conversations with those who are the subjects of a criminal probe.

i recommend you read the criminal complaint filed by special agent of the fbi david cain.

and yes, i am exercising judgment when writing these articles. for i do believe elected officials should exercise an overabundance of caution if they desire to represent other people. and besides, since when is it acceptable for elected officials to engage with criminals or those who are the subjects of criminal probes?

      • shano

Yea, well, Mr. Obama did not even invite Blago to give any address at his Democratic convention.

Not even a afternoon slot as a tribute to Chicago.
        Nothing.
Obama knew he was a bad guy a long time ago.

        sheesh.

        • http://noquarterusa.net/blog/ Truthteller

Too bad none of this is relevant to the criminal complaint filed by the FBI. Relying on evidence outside the complaint is a sign of your inability to understand what it is we are discussing here.

        • WildChild

yup, and that’s why BOBO met with Blagojevich on Nov 5 to talk about the senate set the gov was selling.

        • Mydress

But Blago just paid $3,000,000 for this event in Chicago.

    • http://www.wewillnotbesilenced2008.com OBAMA IS A FRAUD

No one here HAS to get rid of ANY venom. If you don’t like it, or the people who post here, then get the hell out and leave. These people spend a ton of time researching and writing their posts. Who needs a troll to piss on it? Go to the Daily Kook and be gone with you.

      • shano

Researching and writing posts? Well, they are just ginning up the crowd to slime Obama before he even takes office.

There is a big difference between ‘research’ and telling people what they are being trained to hear and identify with. They are pullin’ your chain, buddy.

This is the perfect example. Fitzgerald has already cleared Obama, yet? wtf!

        • http://www.wewillnotbesilenced2008.com OBAMA IS A FRAUD

“Fitzgerald cleared FRAUDBAMA?” ROFLMAO. You idiot. Fitzie is getting the small fish so they can sing on the big fish, the FRAUD. The FBI, Fitzie and all of them have had files on the FRAUD for years. He’s going down with all of the sewer rats. Guess you’re going with them you America hating nut.

        • WildChild

great then maybe Fitz can explain why BOBO lied about meeting with blagevich on NOV 5 to talk about the senate seat the gov was selling. BOBO sure won’t tell us the truth.

    • shano

Larry Johnson encourages this type of venom. He is after all a spy-guy. He knows that in order to prove that he was right all along that he has to slime Obama in every post, every day….to prove that Laryy Johnson is ‘the man’. He was right!

ummm no, Larry Johnson is wrong, he is putting out the most vile and transparent fake theories to young impressionable Americans. All under the cover of beiong a ‘Hillary’ supporter.

Hillary supports Mr. Obama now. Larry Johnson is still trying to prove that he was ‘right’, and he is……if you mean ‘right wing’. He should be out there supporting Palin, Huck and Mitt.

      • WildChild

It’s not Larry’s fault that BOBO met with Blagojevich on NOV 5 to talk about the senate seat and then lied about it. Nope, it’s not Larry’s fault at all.

        • shano

Not Larrys fault that there is no evidence from Fitz that Obama is under any cloud. Or that Obama did not even invite the Gov. of Illinois to speak at the convention. There is no connection but the one in Larry Johnsons head.

And his head has to prove he is right, that all about Obama is corruption, blah, blah blah. Larry Johnson is wrong. Hillary is right about obama.

Larry will never get over being wrong on this election. He should be Sarah Palins security detail.

          • WildChild

Why would BOBo make a public gesture like asking BLago to speak at the conventions when BOBO was going to have to later negotiate with blago to buy the make and model of replacement senator that would be acceptable to BOBO
(at the right price of course) sometime on or about Nov 5?

      • http://www.wewillnotbesilenced2008.com OBAMA IS A FRAUD

shano…go BACK to the Daily Kook you imbecile and liar.

        • shano

Obama is not a fraud. Larry Johnson (who used to be a pretty good guy until his epic fail on this election)
is getting to be a fraud by trying to close his cognitive dissonance about a guy coming up in the American dream becoming president and then appointing first lady Hillary to SoS.

Hillary and Bill are fine with it. Larry cannot recocile himself to admit that Obama will be much better than McCain or Hillary. These are tough times ahead. The nation does not need this type of discourse. But larry does not care about anything but patching his own ego.

          • http://www.wewillnotbesilenced2008.com OBAMA IS A FRAUD

            shano…GET A LIFE.

          • WildChild

i think many media outlets agree with you that the nation consider doesn’tneed this type of discourse, since they re scrubbing all traces of their reporting of BOBO’s and BLago’s meeting on NOV 5 to discuss the sale of the Junior senate seat from Illinois.

If Rahm Emanuel had ethics of any sort, he would realize the game is up and quickly resign, but of course, he is a Democrat from the Central Toxic Waste Dump named Chicago, so there’s no chance he will absent himself.

That would take character and a moral sense of right and wrong, both of which are lacking in this sad little product of a corrupt city machine.

    • KathyNeocon

Megalomaniacs like Emmanuel, Blago and Obama don’t give up power without a knockdown drag out fight.

  • Amy Reed

Rahm was the wrong choice for Chief of Staff anyway if Obama was serious about “unity,” considering that Emmanuel has a reputation as a political gangster. Radio Host Kevin Price pointed out at his http://www.BizPlusBlog.com that Obama is going to be plagued by ethics issues just becauseof the political culture he cut his teeth in.

  • Amalia

Fire Rahm? how about firing Favreau for groping? that is clearly an HR nightmare for anyone, but certainly should be for the president.

keep writing to the media about Favreau.
