Pay To Play: FBI has Grand Jury knock on Bill Richardson’s door

richardsonDec. 15 (Bloomberg) — A Federal grand jury is investigating how a company that advised Jefferson County, Alabama, on bond deals that threaten to cause the biggest municipal bankruptcy in U.S. history, did similar work in New Mexico after making contributions to Governor Bill Richardson’s political action committees.

The grand jury in Albuquerque is looking into Beverly Hills, California-based CDR Financial CDR Financial Products Inc., which received almost $1.5 million in fees from the New Mexico Finance Authority in 2004 after donating $100,000 to Richardson’s efforts to register Hispanic and American Indian voters and pay for expenses at the Democratic National Convention in 2004, people familiar with the matter said.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation asked current and former officials from the state agency if any staff members in the governor’s office influenced CDR’s hiring, said the people, who declined to be identified because the proceedings are secret. Richardson, who is President-elect Barack Obama’s designate for Commerce Secretary, has a staff of at least 30 people.

Gee Bill. I do hope this doesn’t endanger that Big Shot Commerce job you got as reward for turning your back on the people who blew the dust off of you when you were nothing. A lot of us once liked you a lot.

The New Mexico probe comes two years after the FBI searched CDR’s offices as part of a nationwide investigation into whether banks and advisers conspired to overcharge local governments on financing deals. That probe by the New York office of the U.S. Department of Justice’s Antitrust Division is ongoing, and CDR says it is cooperating.

“They’re looking at everything related to CDR,” William Sisneros, the finance agency’s chief executive officer, said of the FBI probe. “They’re just trying to evaluate all the relationships to see what CDR was doing for the money.”

Guess what else, folks?

The investigation reflects another front in nationwide efforts by U.S. prosecutors to investigate so-called pay- to-play in the municipal bond market. The term refers to banks and advisers who make political contributions or personal gifts to public officials in return for fee-paying financing assignments.

It’s about time somebody cleaned the filthy house that is politics in this country. This is going to last for a long time, because one of these slobs always leads to another one just like him. Pay To Play is a way of life for these pigs. All except Barack Obama of course. He did it all by himself. And right there in Chicago, of all places….

It’s just too bad we can’t start over completely with Congress too. You know, file Chapter 11, restructure and throw the whole lot of them out on their asses. I’m beginning to believe there are only two kinds of people in Congress. Those who deal and get caught and those who deal and haven’t been caught.

It’s too bad I’ll never get to know what my now ex boyfriend, Obama voter thinks about this all now. We broke up because I was not supporting democrats anymore. He was very pleased with Emmanuel as COS for Obarfy, too. He is living in lalaponyland. You know, I guess have questions regarding those who see this as a partisan issue.

It’s not, why despise democrats when republicans are doing the same thing?

And this is just one little example of Billie Boy Richardson’s pay for play schemes. His entire Governorship has been that way. Uses taxpayer dollars to build businesses for his conributors for a hefty contribution to his PAC’s. Give a contract for a nice contribution. If they don’t give, the contract is cancelled. Even so far as to for all state employees to become Unionized, even though the Union has no negotiating capabilities for employees of the state. But he sure got a nice contribution for giving the union all those dues out of the pockets of his citizens and employees.

And today they got to make the innaugural celebration of his Choo Choo. The one he was padding his resume with to make him look good on paper (that’s all he ever cared about) for his future job. Only that didn’t work out. We’re wondering if all his Cabinent Secretaries pinned him on the train asking about the investigation. Wouldn’t you like to be a fly on that wall? And that train, the Railrunner, was marketed to create jobs for New Mexicans, like he has sold everything, was supposed to cost 300 million and travel all day long to and from Albuquerque to Santa Fe. It now is costing 450 million to build, short of the stations that were promised to actually be able to ride it and the trips are now down to 7 a day and being used as mainly employee commuter service in which taxes have just gone up to pay maintenance for this train that no one will get to ride.

This goes a long the way of his Space Port, where he built this with tax dollars and put it on rented land from 2 ranchers….IN NEW MEXICO-WIDE OPEN NEW MEXICO.

A prosecutor could stay busy just on Billie’s scams. But I gues making the first step is the most important. FINALLY! Again, many were complaining about this for how long, but folks CHOSE to keep their eyes shut and ears muffled.

Serious flaw in Internet Explorer not fixed yet
Posted on Mon Dec 15, 2008 3:40PM EST FROM YAHOO NEWS
SAN FRANCISCO – Users of all current versions of Microsoft Corp.’s Internet Explorer browser might be vulnerable to having their computers hijacked because of a serious security hole in the software that had yet to be fixed Monday.

The flaw lets criminals commandeer victims’ machines merely by tricking them into visiting Web sites tainted with malicious programming code. As many as 10,000 sites have been compromised since last week to exploit the browser flaw, according to antivirus software maker Trend Micro Inc.

The sites are mostly Chinese and have been serving up programs that steal passwords for computer games, which can be sold for money on the black market. However, the hole is such that it could be “adopted by more financially motivated criminals for more serious mayhem — that’s a big fear right now,” Paul Ferguson, a Trend Micro security researcher, said Monday.

“Zero-day” vulnerabilities like this are security holes that haven’t been repaired by the software makers. They’re a gold mine for criminals because users have few ways to fight off attacks.

The latest vulnerability is noteworthy because Internet Explorer is the default browser for most of the world’s computers. Also, while Microsoft says it has detected attacks only against version 7 of Internet Explorer, which is the most widely used edition, the company warned that other versions are also potentially vulnerable.

Microsoft said it is investigating the flaw and is considering fixing it through an emergency software patch outside of its normal monthly updates, but declined further comment. The company is telling users to employ a series of complicated workarounds to minimize the threat.

Many security experts, meanwhile, are urging Internet Explorer users to use another browser until a patch is released.

I thought actually this had been exploited by the Chinese YEARS ago, and even though it’s not officially fixed, from what I read a couple of days ago, it doesn’t really pose a threat.

There was some info on the WAPO website, perhaps it’s been updated.

It’s what you get for allowing them to dump the latest IE version on you while they are still debugging it in the field, using your machine. There was a little known little program called IE 7 Blocker that blocks MS from downloading it into your machine. I still don’t have 7 yet.Maybe next year. lol. In fact, it’s so buggy, they have IE 8 in beta. Never trust microsoft. They don’t care what they do to your machine. They just learn from your misfortune is all.

        • jd4hill

Wait til he actually takes office — what did he think it was going to be like? He ain’t seen nothin’ yet. The WH is one big pressure cooker — it never ends.

I have to say, I actually just tried to stop and listen to him, without judgment at his presser today. He was cranky. And the err umming and his halting, parsing speech, and not really coherent, and very repetitive sentences did little to inspire confidence, unfortunately. It just kind of sounded like a lot of general statements, nothing directed, and without a big sense of purpose.

I thought he was such a great orator? But beyond that, cause the speechifying thing is not as important as resolve, I just don’t feel he’s very directed, if that makes sense. I mean, where’s his enthusiasm to get going on the job — he already looks exhausted, like this is all irritating to him.

Richardson also stated that Obama was an immagrant.

hum…. does that make him ineligible for President.

Natural Born citizen is a requirement, not a suggestion and for the courts to turn their backs on the citizens of this country, is a blatant disregard for the law and a call to arms.

refer to “Laws of Nations” and the CLEAR definition of “Natural Born” is self evident.

    Book 1 Chpt. 19
    § 212. Citizens and natives.
The citizens are the members of the civil society; bound to this society by certain duties, and subject to its authority, they equally participate in its advantages. The natives, or natural-born citizens, are those born in the country, of parents who are citizens. As the society cannot exist and perpetuate itself otherwise than by the children of the citizens, those children naturally follow the condition of their fathers, and succeed to all their rights. The society is supposed to desire this, in consequence of what it owes to its own preservation; and it is presumed, as matter of course, that each citizen, on entering into society, reserves to his children the right of becoming members of it. The country of the fathers is therefore that of the children; and these become true citizens merely by their tacit consent. We shall soon see whether, on their coming to the years of discretion, they may renounce their right, and what they owe to the society in which they were born. I say, that, in order to be of the country, it is necessary that a person be born of a father who is a citizen; for, if he is born there of a foreigner, it will be only the place of his birth, and not his country.

§ 215. Children of citizens born in a foreign country.
It is asked whether the children born of citizens in a foreign country are citizens? The laws have decided this question in several countries, and their regulations must be followed.(59) By the law of nature alone, children follow the condition of their fathers, and enter into all their rights (§ 212); the place of birth produces no change in this particular, and cannot, of itself, furnish any reason for taking from a child what nature has given him; I say “of itself,” for, civil or political laws may, for particular reasons, ordain otherwise. But I suppose that the father has not entirely quitted his country in order to settle elsewhere. If he has fixed his abode in a foreign country, he is become a member of another society, at least as a perpetual inhabitant; and his children will be members of it also.

Used by John Jay – First Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, when they were not afaid to stand up for the Constitution.

I guess the funny thing is, this is the least of it all. My mind goes to Murtha – on the abscam fbi tape or whatever it is called – there he was, not directly grabbing the 50G’s cash, but instead said ” Well, he’ll have to open a multi million dollar bank account at my buddy’s bank there locally in my district, then there’s this industrila company that’s had some layoffs and shutdowns, he’ll have to buy that and get it going, you know, make some jobs… then yes I’m sure I can do this and get your illegal alien Arab shiek into the USA no problem…”
That of course as we see was deemed legal…
I understand they can get contributions as long as they aren’t caught actually squacking out tit for tat verbatim…
So hemming and hawwing and doublespeaking and hinting and jiving – why that’s all ok – including thank you notes, bottles of wine, free vacatrions, jet rides, seeing the latest new electric bus invention for a weekend trip, golfing in nether regions ( not just on worldwide courses but in hotel rooms of any nation, too ).
Yeah, I guess we need a new word because “perks” is just too lame and teensy and pathetic to actually describe the gigantic haul that goes with the schmoozesters corrupt lifestyles.
Then they’re the ones who arise on the floor and tell all of us it is 100% wrong and something has to be done about it – that’s been ringing in my ears for about a decade now – as it has gotten immeasurably worse, especially with McCrank’s so called Camp.Fin.Reform.
There just aren’t enough grand juries in the entire nation to take care of these matters.
Now there would be an economic surge and job plan worthwhile … citizen grand juries and makeshift legal and investigative and fioa filing masses paid to “clean up the government” and storm every bigshot courthouse demanding action.
Yes, now there’s a make work program I could really super support and get behind 1000%.

I am not against firing the lot of them and starting completely over.
These people are in office to protect the American peoples interests, yet all they do is pad their own pockets and buy bigger and more expensive homes, vacations, cars etc.
In the mean time the American people are suffering. They need to cut their expense accounts off immediately, cut any pay raises, cut their overpriced salaries and start doing the jobs we hired them to do.
We American citizens have cut out our spending, and its about time congress and the senate do the same.
As for Obama and all the elaborate and expensive inauguration parties, they should go without, just like the rest of us.
By God if the American people have to do it, then our paid representatives should do the same!
