No Inappropriate Contact?

I understand Bill Clinton lying about having sex with Monica Lewinsky. None of the married guys I know would want to fess up to their wife that they had been philandering. Better to lie and save the family. Bill Clinton had the added burden of making his denials in the public arena.
So what the hell was Obama thinking? Initially he denied any contact. Remember, we are talking about the most brilliant man to ever be elected President (or so we were told by Michael Bechloss). He’s a Constitutional scholar (so we were told) for God’s sake. His insistence that he did not talk to Blago left most folks scratching their heads. Why wouldn’t President-elect Obama talk to Blagojevich, or communicate in some fashion, about his preference for a successor to his Senate seat? As Truthteller has documented there clearly was contact between the two camps.
There was this announcement more than a month ago from Governor Blagojevich:
Governor Blagojevich Congratulates President-elect Obama and Discusses U.S. Senate Seat To fill President-Elect Barack Obama’s Senate seat, Governor will use deliberate process to select suitable replacement
And today, Obama admitted there was contact between his staff and the Governor. Did you notice he said, “there was no inappropriate contact?” We can be sure that the Feds have recordings not just of Rahm Emanuel, but also David Axlerod and Valerie Jarrett. As the case against Blagojevich proceeds it is highly likely they will be called as witnesses. We also cannot rule out that they will testify before a Grand jury.
If you think the visual of Emanuel, Axlerod, or Jarrett doing the perp walk into a Grand jury hearing is a positive for the Obama Adminiistration then you are delusional. Those are not the pictures they will want but they will appear. Compounding Obama’s problem is that Blagojevich is not going away quietly. He is going to fight like hell to save himself and, like a frantic drowning man, will latch on to anything to save himself. Don’t be surprised to hear his stories about fielding requests for favors from Barack via Tony Rezko.
For now we are left with the spectacle of Barack Obama carefully parsing words. So much for openness and transparency.
