The reason I like Chomsky is he speaks "truth to power." Some of it may be wrong, and I've heard him admit mistakes of which Pol Pot is one, but overall he questions authority.

I didn't like his in effect endorsement of Obama, thought he had bought the kool aid, but I'm glad to see that he does feel that Obama is a brand and at least is questioning him now about substantive things.

Doesn't this follow my either people take responsibility for actions or they don't meme?

A lot of Democrats have consistently failed to take responsibility for their roles in these messes. Without the Democrats' complicity, Bush couldn't have done nearly as much as he did (that is, messing things up).

When are they going to throw off the Daddy Obama and grow up?

xax, interesting distinction

I'm pretty much in agreement with you. Having worked in government for over a decade, you see the effect of bad policies based on good intentions, or those side effects that were unknown until the actual carrying out of a particular policy occurs. Also, I tend to see people as a split between those who don't take responsibility for their actions and those who do (circumstances notwithstanding). I grew up fairly poor but at some point you have to get off the government trough. So I would guess I'm in the solidly Liberal camp.

The term I like to describe the Bots is neo-Liberals or neo-progressives, because like Bush's supporters when he had them it is devotion to a particular leader that separates them from us. What they refuse to do is see any bad in their leader. Even those of us who still supported Clinton during Monica knew he was guilty. These Bots seem to believe that Obama can do no wrong and is motivated by a higher spiritual source so he is immune from corruption and being a politician.

yeah, but what's with the ring on Barry's wedding finger?

I second you on Barry being in the closet. Believed that since his 2006 national exposure. That's gonna be the biggest secret of his administration, forget the birth certificate.

From your link: " In April of 2008, President Bush signed into law S.1858 which allows the federal government to screen the DNA of all newborn babies in the U.S. ..."
The point is - THE PROGRESSIVE CONGRESS WROTE AND PASSED THE LAW - and wether or not Bush signed it, THE CONGRESS CAN MAKE IT LAW ANYWAY - A MERE OVERRIDE OF A POTUS VETO - OR THE POTUS IGNORES IT AND IT BECOMES LAW.
The president did not do this- CONGRESS DID IT !

Haven't you heard ? Patriotism is a very real danger. "Jingoistic love of ones nation means you would follow Hitler to the grave" only for the USA though, otherwise you are a minuteman freedom fighter. "Nations are BAD things in a global world, and anyone for the USA is crapping on most of the world's people"... "remove the worlds borders!" they scream ( I guess their psychotic mind tells them that will bring world peace )
That's what they tell us nowadays - then the same preaching psychos scream about outsourcing and "America" losing jobs... (suddenly it's 100% moral, honest, loving, defensive, beautiful, wonderful, the right thing to do, - to be a hardcore USA defender and supporter) - those same people SCREAMED decades ago the poor of the world needed to be brought up from the 3rd world to modernity (decades before Bush or "The Gap" study of PNAC) - and the neocons went to do business and make it happen - but now that's exploitation, and worse, it's now raping and taking... taking American jobs...- and those same people SCREAMED they HATE the rich corporate owners and " rulers" - and those who were hated with such a vile, mean, searing hatred left the nation to be overseas closed down USA plants and put them overseas (I certainly don't blame them *the most hated people ever*)- to get away from the protesting hate mongers- and those same people SCREAMED "you outsourcer!"--

Well they told themselves how much they love a mverick for how many years ? They told us GWB was a uniter - and he clearly pissed off every conservative past recall in the nation ten times each.
So it looks to me like they tell themselves. The reason we got Palin under mcctraitor/mclame was that pick remains a public secret till anounced, so the media had no control and persuasion.
Yes, the media, they all decide, group think, open focus grouping - copying copy 100 times a day - and bus wheels for dissenters. You know the NYT "sets the tone" and all the sheepleheads follow.

Oh my goodness - you people praising Chomsky?

He who has called the United States the greatest purveyor of Terrorism in the world?

Who consistently denounces the militarist policies of Israel.

Who has said that if the Nuremberg principles were applied today, every president since WWII would have been convicted of war crimes.

That, Noam Chomsky?

If anyone on "the left" who supported Obama or even the man himself had indicated even a smattering of support for these positions during the election, you guys would have had a freaking field day.

Chutzpah, thy name is No Quarter.

My catechism was that you should believe the best you can about others, due to your imperfect knowledge of their inner selves; but in any case G-d doesn't require that we be complete fools about people whose actions are questionable, and allow others to take unfair advantage of us. I find that a useful guide.

It's often blurry. So no problem there. I guess for me, liberals believe in individual freedom while progressive believe in the state. I think the government has its role, but it should not be a nanny state.

The lines between true liberalism and "progressivism" has been blurred deliberately to suit a "progressive" agenda. For me, I do care about the poor, but growing up in a poor city I also understand there are some who just live off the government teat and then feel entitled to more. So while progressives lobby for more money in the name of the poor and then throw it haphazardly in the street, liberals would help those who can get a job and for those who can't you'll give them money.

I don't know if it's a good example, but that's just my opinion.

I am so glad I saw this post. I used to be of chomosky's fans. I baught his books and listened to his lectures. Then doring the primaries I heard him saying some thing which kind of an Obama endorsment. Which of course to me is something like a blow to the head. So I just almost erased him totally from the list to go to, and almost threw away his books. Now I can go back to where I left of. I should have known he is too smart and clean for this BS.
