Joe Wilson Has Choice Words for Novak (+Open Thread)

Greg Sargent of Talking Points Memo’s Horse’s Mouth blog called Joe Wilson today for his reaction to the Novak story we covered yesterday:

Joe Wilson: “Chronic Liar” Robert Novak Is “Going Straight To Hell”
October 8, 2007 — 4:19 PM EST // //

I just got off the phone with former Ambassador Joe Wilson, and in our conversation he angrily disputed Robert Novak’s latest assertion about the outing of his CIA operative wife, adding that if the columnist isn’t going to confession, “he’s going straight to Hell.” … Read all and howl.

What else is going on today? OPEN THREAD:

    Ha!

    Thompson Fearing a Macaca Moment?
The candidate has announced that George Allen and Liz Cheney will no longer work the post-debate spin room tomorrow. The campaign cites scheduling conflicts.

      More fun:

This is an amusing image: Former New York Sen. Alfonse D’Amato is playing Rudy Giuliani in Fred Thompson’s practice sessions for tomorrow’s GOP debate.

File Under: You can’t make this shit up.

  • graywolf

Novack: “After I told him this, he asked if I would confirm whether my wife did work for the CIA,” Wilson says. “I said, `I am not going to say anything about my wife. You need to talk to the CIA about it.’”

Real fucking genius this Wilson, another government drone.

    • Chris Vosburg

Whatr do you think Wilson should have said, Graywolf?

  • The Oracle

I’d take Joe Wilson’s word anyday over anything that Robert Novak has to say, or any of the neo-con Republicans, for that matter.

Little did Mr. Wilson ever imagine that after facing down the thuggish Saddam Hussein in the first Gulf War that over ten years later he’d face neo-con Republican thugs in the Bush administration and in the person of Robert Novak, who’d not only attack him but also go after his family in a neo-con Republican vendetta against anyone that challenged the lies the neo-con Republicans used to sucker America into a second Gulf War.

“Little did Mr. Wilson ever imagine that after facing down the thuggish Saddam Hussein in the first Gulf War that over ten years later he’d face neo-con Republican thugs in the Bush administration and in the person of Robert Novak, who’d not only attack him but also go after his family in a neo-con Republican vendetta against anyone that challenged the lies the neo-con Republicans used to sucker America into a second Gulf War” says the Oracle.

I’d amend that to say “in another Bush administration….”

And then I’d look at some of today’s other news and see ” Far right-wing bloggers attack 12 year old boy who spoke for Dems and for S-CHIP” and go after him and his family by trying to destroy them.

And then, ” Far right-wing bloggers ‘Swiftboat’ WWII vets who spoke out against torture.” Because according to the far right, Hitler and Tojo and Hirohito and Il Duce, who actually could have taken over the world, or overseen the destruction of it, were a lesser threat than Al Quaida is today.

When did the leaders of our country become such bed-wetting thumb-suckers?

I want my country back! I want my Constitution back!

Is anyone here as annoyed at Marion Jones as I am? Of course, Ms. Jones, the doped up olympic track cheat is from Texas — Austin to be exact. Do most Texans know of any other way to win? At least Lance Armstrong, another steroid cheat from Austin, competes under the Texas flag. But Ms. Jones has the gall to cheat under the Stars and Stripes. I think it’s high time the American people impeach Texas from our Union. Why do we need this state full of unethical liars anyway? Furthermore, it’s starting to look like all the women in Texas are born with that long, unattractive, Anna Nicole Smith chin no matter what color they are.

    • http://www.food4humanity.org hoosierhoops

yea..what is it with Texas? Thanks for Bush BTW..
Let’s trade Texas to Mexico for a player to be named later and cash considerations..
      :)

      • Centrocitta

Hoosierhoops, being a born and bred American citizen from the Mid-Atlantic, when I was living in Texas, I often questioned my native Texas neighbors about why so many dis-honest things went on in that state. And I always received the same answer from every one of them: “These kind of things happen all over the USA and Americans are the same everywhere”. This from the mouths of people who have never been outside of the state and who will tell you they are “TEXAN” when you ask about their heritage.

    • http://noquarterusa.net/ SusanUnPC

I miss the good ol’ amateur days of the Olympics, imperfect even as that was.

Remember when the basketball teams were a bunch of college kids? When I saw the men’s basketball games at the 1990 Goodwill Games, the U.S. team was a bunch of college kids coached by college coaches (well, Mike S….sp? of Duke, and P.J. Carlisimo, but still). The players included Bobby Hurley and Christian L…sp? of Duke who were just barely out of their teens. It was much more exciting and dramatic, not to mention uncertain.

There’s a very interesting psychological aspect to this Novak bit, which Novak is underhandedly using to maintain his visibility in the news media.

In so many words, he publicly accuses Wilson of not standing up for his own wife, essentially saying he’s not a real man.

Meanwhile, in actual fact, Wilson showed more support in standing up for his wife than Novak’s narrow selfish view of the world allows him to comprehend.

What Wilson in fact did do, was refuse to take the bait, and refused to confirm her covert status, thereby protecting not only her, but also those who worked with her. Sounds to me like a real man that any wife could be proud of.

That leaves Novak self-demoted to the status of also-ran gossip columnist.

    • Leslie

Novak’s quotes were self-serving. He was trying to deflect blame onto Wilson for Novak’s outing of Wilson’s wife. Then Novak has the gall to complain about his legal fees. What a lying, smarmy bastard! Why isn’t he in jail? Why is he still appearing as a “pundit” on the TV faux news?

  • ybnormal

Open threading on the presidential campaign.
In spite of all the debates, all the money raised, and all the public appearances, there’s a question that continues to ride in the back seat.

In light of the consolidation of executive branch power in the last couple decades or so, how will the next president deal with this extra power? Who if anyone among the candidates will be willing to give up that power once they are sworn into office?

Before we can expect an answer, we first have to have the question.

  • Leslie

Yeah, as Horse’s Mouth points out, The Hill reporter didn’t contact Wilson. His reporting was very one-sided, tilted toward Novak, and it sounded like stenography. The Hill should’ve spoken to Wilson to get his response. The Hill reports Novak’s quotes without providing any context and it’s irresponsible and poor reporting.

Susan: I got an error when i tried to nest to your comments..( couldn’t find Comment_div line or something)
By golly i remember now you said you were a big lady hoops fan..Probably a more pure game than the men’s.
That’s probably why you liked the old oylmpic games.
It was a more pure form of competition..
Heard from my son in iraq yesterday..He is somewhere near falluja ( i think that is the spelling)
It’s hot there..and alot of sh*t is going down..

Let me know if it keeps happening. What it might be: Moses is working on the coding for the comments. As if politics doesn’t enter into enough of our lives, politics has complicated the world of WordPress blog software too. Moses told me that the person who created the code for comments got in a huff about something, and split. Can’t we all just get along?! (Obviously that’ll never happen! I’m laughing.)

HUGS to you and your family … I think about your son every day. It doesn’t help him, but it reminds me just how personal this war is for so many families.

Please send a message to your representative in Congress to support this bill to stop aerial hunting of wolves.

Here’s a great, newsy page about what’s going on with wolves, and how activists are trying to protect them.

Last week, the Seattle Times ran the most SPECTACULAR photos of a lone female wolf catching salmon, alongside a group of bears, in a river. It’s just amazing:

    Thursday, October 04, 2007 : Nation & World
She wasn’t in the river two minutes, and she grabbed a fish and was out of there. She did this 15 times in a row.” When Stinsa’s photographs first popped up on the Internet, they… See the photos and story.

Nasty. Politics at its very worst:

    Macaca
I don’t know how Fred Thompson’s naming of former Virginia Sen. George Allen as one his three campaign co-chairs can be seen as anything other than a nod and a wink to a certain brand of racially-charged Republican voters. … read all.

It was the first thing that occurred to me because what other reason could Thompson have for appointing that loser?

    • http://noquarterusa.net/blog/ Leslie

The only votes that count are white men’s.

  • Mr.Murder

Novak is trying to make it look like Wilson confirmed his assertion.

Must be a lawsuit in the making.

You could probably file anew claims for the Wilsons vs. Cheney. The roots connect.

NSA types could probably help. Look on their signals prior to his taking office, in the campaign run-up and before actual swearing in on the Bush V. Gore decision. Follow the Money. Aspen Institute.

This is a HELL of a diary on health insurance, and it’s scary. It’s also well-documented. And it begins with the story of Kos’s current health problem — terrible abdominal pain that’s been going on for some time. He needs a CT scan but Blue Shield is denying it. The diary lists more terrible stories — even paralyzed people who can’t get wheelchairs, etc.

  • PrchrLady

Yes, Susan it is a great diary, and so true. I fought over insurance coverage for years, after I was injured. They have no mercy. I remember people’s jaws dropping to the floor when I told my story; many still never believed until it happened to them. We NEED universal health care. Are you familiar with presidential candidates plans on this issue?

    • http://noquarterusa.net/ SusanUnPC

Did you listen to those jokers today on CNBC or MSNBC? Private enterprise can solve our health care cost problem! WOW!

And I suppose you’ve read about what the evil people at FreeRepublic and Michelle Malkin and others of their ilk are doing to the 12-year-old boy and his family — the boy who gave the Democratic radio address last Saturday about how the SCHIPS health care system saved his life and gave him critical care. Those monsters are stalking the family and have posted the famiy’s home address on their Web site.

(The last time I went to FreeRepublic was about three-plus years ago. I saw three threads — with LOTS of discussion in each thread — on why the right of women to vote should be taken away, and it so frightened me that people in this country could think like that that I could never bear to go there and check them out again.)

Hunter has more on what they’re doing to that poor boy and his family:
      http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2007/10/9/224358/287

      • http://noquarterusa.net/blog/ Leslie

Malkin reportedly showed up at the Graeme home and then at the father’s office. These people are unbelievable. They’re so self-righteous, while they inflict incredible harm. They’re a bunch of thugs.

  • PrchrLady

I have been following these stories. Disgusting is too mild a word. It infuriates me to see people who have worked all their lives to accomplish a modest ‘blanket of security’, only to see it wiped out in times when they need it most. Health care is soon to become one of the luxuries that only the rich can afford. And the public health system??? what a joke. We will be in deep trouble when the next big ‘flu’ hits… I wonder what the plan is besides calling on the blackwater crew to maintain order???

    • Centrocitta

Here in Italy, I have free healthcare AND a roof over my head. How about THAT?

    • http://noquarterusa.net/ SusanUnPC

Oh now! Free enterprise is the answer! God knows programs like SCHIPS will lead us to socialism.

The only proof we need is how well the current private enterprise health care system is working in this country.

Odd, isn’t it, that none of the CNBC questioners asked those jokers on the stage in Michigan why they’re advocating a free-enteprise solution to health care when that’s what we’ve got and it clearly is failing, killing people, costing us FAR more than a program like Medicare (with its 3% overhead), etc.

      ::::

P.S. Just heard that Bill Maher is describing Fred Thompson — who does look awful and ancient — as “tanned, rested, and in remission.” (That’s awful, but it’s also sick-funny.)

In the rightwing version of Dickens’ A Christmas Carol , Scrooge, the hero – has no awakening and continues to mock the poor throughout the story.
Ne’er do well Bob Cratchit gets fired, succumbs to drink and commits suicide. Tiny Tim, despite his handicap and age – goes to work as a chimney sweep and is horribly killed during a eighty hour week in a work related accident.
Mrs. Cratchit is tossed in the street and committed to an asylum where TB gets the better of her. The rightwing moral? The free market at it’s best. Survival of the fittest.
It’s their deep seated obsession to a return to the Gilded Age.
