I knew Newsweak would piss me off with the year ender

It is after all my treasure trove of crap.

The New Global Elite

This week is the year end, double issue featuring the most powerful people in the world. They call them The Global Elite. Elite and proud of it would be my conjecture.

First piss off is the Conventional Wisdom/Up or Down graphic column. Hillary is UP “Odor of fractious, low-road campaign fading. And brains, experience, work ethic could make her a great secretary of state.

GRRRRRRR that will require an entire post of its own.

But the real piss off and the one I’d like to ask a volunteer of the woman species to blog about is titled, “Player or Pretender“.

On the left with the Pretenders we have PUMAs. On the right with the players we have Cougars.

Cougars “… Madonna/A-Rod and, of course, Demi/Ashton: Women of a certain age have staying power.”

PUMAs “The Clinton Dead-Enders (Party Unity My Ass) were all the talk. In the end, with Hillary’s help, Obama won over the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pantsuits.”

Now I know that NoQuarter does/did not consider itself PUMA territory but I am proud to say I am a PUMA although like any group we have our crazies. Newsweak comparing thinking, caring, fighting voters of all sexes with cradle robbing Cougars is just total bullshit. And to give the Cougars more value! FU Newsweak.

If a hamster could scream you’d hear it now and I will probably scream lots over at Partizane

  • AngryWhitePerson

Yech, who gives a shit what Newsweak thinks? That is a garbage bag on the way out to the curb. Aren’t they downgrading their guaranteed circulation from 2.6 million to 1 million this year? Talk about circuling the toilet. Let them die a much needed death and refuse to link to them! They don’t deserve the eyeballs.

Jonathan Alter used to be in charge of the Conventional Wisdom column and he has proven to be a pompous knownothing time and time again. I simply don’t care who is in charge of the column now, the entire magazine reeks of anxious filth.

  • Old Grumpy Guy

I have always thought of Newsweek as second-rate at best

  • stevec

well, well, it seems like a certain percentage of the MSM is going downhill. Whether it’s on TV, print, or media like Newsweek, Time, et, they are paying the price for being liberal rags. People are tired of being lied too, having things shoved down our throats, told what to think, believe and act.
Randolph Hearst started “yellow journalism” and we are paying the price.
We read weekly, how this paper is cutting circulation, cutting staff, reporters, et.

However on a bright note, if the National Inquirer was the ONLY paper to investigate Edwards and bring his scandal to light, that means the we may need to begin and trust others like the Globe, as they may have the last real investigative reporters let.

I look foward to seeing Time, Newsweek, People, Us and a host more go by the wayside. All the while the green-tree huggers can count the number of trees, we will be saving.

  • DisenfranchisedVoter

Isn’t Newsweak somehow associated with MSNBC? Why expect anything less than CDS and hatred for Clinton supporters who refused to get on the Hope train. All of these news outlets are losing significant numbers of the public to blogs. That’s why they are laying off and cutting back on so many resources after practically endorsing the Messiah as they did with Dubya in 2000.

  • Strawberrybitch

Does anyone take Newsweek seriously anymore? By the time you get past all the Viagra/restless leg syndrome/weak bladder ads and the foo foo fashion fluff pieces you’re done with your trip to the watercloset. Which is the only place fit for this rag. Well there and your gynecologist’s office. The one who keeps his speculums in the freezer.

  • DisenfranchisedVoter

I haven’t read Newsweak in almost 2 years. I read Time but other than that I can get my information from the internet or the BBC. I don’t trust the American press anymore. I remember my high school civics teacher made my class subscribe to Newsweak and even back then (during the Clinton years) I didn’t find it as good as Time or The Economist.

  • bayareavoter

    Blech!

What is their obsession with Hillary-bashing? Will anyone ever write about what really happened this year in the primaries?

  • justus949

I agree with the above comments – who in their right mind reads newsweak anyway – it is the ultimate twink publication, a trashy version of People for the villagers in DC. Newsweak cannot die fast enough, they have to shoot themselves in both feet. Pumas ARE cougars, puma and cougar describe the same big cat. Do your homework, newsweak assholes! Hilary did not win over the PUMA’s – otherwise PEBO would have won in a landslide. I am just sitting back as each day goes by, with PEBO not even in office yet, as eyes and ears begin to open all around me to just what a Chicago thug in office will mean for this country. But those smug little twinks at Newsweak, trained in the fine art of superficiality and ignorance, totally miss the point. Why am I NOT surprised?

  • http://uppitywoman08.wordpress.com uppity woman

    Somebody still reads Newsweek?

  • DisenfranchisedVoter

The same Obots who watch MSNBC. That’s about it.

  • Winston

I have always thought of Newsweek Newspeak as second-rate at best.

I work in the Ministry of Information and my job is to fix these kind of errors.

My name ain’t Winston Smith for nothing. Big Brother is watching.

  • Winston

Let’s not let this go down the memory hole. We will never forget what happened.

  • http://deleted Buzz Latte

Newsweek went the way of Time magazine – totally worthless rag. You need to know the truth – you come to No Quarter.

  • Judy L. NC

Haven’t even turned a page in it since they hired Karl Rove.

  • catherine

Markos writes for that rag. What else do you expect from that Pravda rag?

  • BernieO

If you think Newsweek is bad, I just finished reading Frank Rich’s column in today’s Times, “You’re Likable Enough, Gay People”. I usually avoid his garbage, but just couldn’t resist reading him criticize his idol. Rich even talked about O’s hubris but couldn’t manage to chastise “The One” without insulting Bill Clinton as “…a sweet-talking swindler who would throw us under the bus for the sake of political expediency,” (a quote from Timothy McCarthy in reference to Clinton’s treatment of gays). REALLY? I seem to recall Bill Clinton going way out on a limb to keep his promise about pushing for gays and lesbians to serve in the military – and getting cut down for it. Clinton got thrown under the bus for them, not the other way around, IMO.

  • C.S.

I am not a big fan of political propaganda “news” magazines and have not read any of these in so long that I don’t even know what they look like because my TV commercial skip button works at magazine stands also. However, I’m sure they can be put to good use in trash barrel fires for the homeless or as fire place kindling but I certainly wouldn’t subject my poor bird to such pap by lining the
birdcage with any of them – especially not that Times man-of-the-year-cover I’ve heard about!

  • Thinker

“PUMAs “The Clinton Dead-Enders (Party Unity My Ass) were all the talk. In the end, with Hillary’s help, Obama won over the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pantsuits.”

This isn’t a surprise, and once again, this is why I don’t watch or read MSM news anymore, but I will say this:

The comment illustrates how it has become open season on women in this country. PUMA’s are a group of voters that didn’t like what they saw in this election, and were very vocal about it.

There were plenty of African-Americans throughout American history that were vocal about the things we saw in the American political process, but a journalist would NEVER refer to us as “dead-enders.” My mother would be up in arms, ready to curse someone out. I used to try and talk to her about how we are Black AND women, but it’s as if we have to choose which issue to focus on, but I choose both.

Sexism is alive and well in The United States of America, and 2008 proved it.

  • Citizen70

A little over a year ago I ordered Newsweek with some left over frequent flier miles. After just a few issues of their Obama-worship I cancelled the subscription and replaced it with Business Week. What a breath of fresh air! Here’s some objective reporting – my renewal is forthcoming.

  • AOK

Newsweek told the truth. You PUMAs were all show and no go.

  • oowawa

Newsweek? If it were the only mag in the dentist’s waiting room, I wouldn’t pick it up to take my mind off of the imminent root canal.

  • ACPD

Wasn’t it Newsweek’s editor on the Daily Show who said that he wants and looks for “conflict” in his stories? In other words, even when there isn’t any conflict he creates some to keep “interest alive” in his tawdry and very thin rag. We can thank him, among others, for the phony racism stories against the Clintons and Geraldine Ferraro. We can thank him for confabulating conflict in order to deflect attention away from BO’s complete lack of accomplishments and qualifications. And when the conflict could have involved BO’s associations, crooked dealings and secret personal documents, we can thank him for his apparent scruples….

On a slightly related topic, I refer you to the following article about the younger generation in this country.

    http://www.nhregister.com/articles/2008/12/28/news/metro/a1-nepictures.txt

They, like Newsweek, have confused narcissism with journalism….

  • oowawa

Will anyone ever write about what really happened this year in the primaries?

A great deal will ultimately be written describing what actually happened, but none of it will appear in Newsweek.

  • xax

    Because no one reads it.

  • xax

Enjoy the trainwreck which is to become the next four years.

And 8 millions votes doesn’t doesn’t seem like “no go” to me.

  • http://helpmejoseph.typepad.com/puma_for_life/ Mountain Girl

Actually, the fact that they mentioned Pumas at all is to me a sign that we did flex some muscle. Enough that if the Republicans had voted, McCain would have won. And as far as I am concerned, I will be supporting Sarah Palin in 2012.

  • wodiej

well said, I read no mags anymore or newspapers. they are all being run by generation cheetos aka morons w no moral compass.

  • wodiej

I didn’t think the obots could read? I doubt many pay for a subscription at any rate. these rags are so stupid. The majority of this generation I doubt spends much time purchasing magazines. They pissed off and bit the hand that was feeding them. RIP Newsweek….

  • wodiej

    I second that.

  • Ferd Berfle

How do you define truth, goose-stepper? I’ll be waiting for your answer. Were you a bushbot, too?

  • Ferd Berfle

Indeed. Had the Republicans gone out and voted for McCain the way they did for Shrub, we’d be awaiting a McCain presidency. It was not lost on me that the right-wing nutjobs are just as moronic as the left-wing nutjobs.

  • ACPD

The numbers still tell it all….75 to 80% of the American public did NOT vote for BO. 52% of the Republicans who voted during the primaries did NOT bother to show up to vote during the general elections. (I suspect because they are too sexist….) If the Repubs had gotten over themselves, BO would have gone down in the flames of his own pyrotechnics. It was those of us who left the Democratic Party to support McCain/Palin who did work and did show up. That’s why the media can’t actually dismiss us, as they would like. We were the only adults in this process and we did make a difference….

  • wodiej

I’m with ya on that one too.

  • Ferd Berfle

    For want of a centrist….

  • wodiej

52%…how friggin’ STUPID. So they were so sexist and didn’t like McCain that they would let someone like BO win. They’re as nuts as the obots.

  • Ferd Berfle

That is one big river the slack-jawed majority have sold us down over the course of the past 3 elections.

  • http://none jessiebritton

Left wing nut jobs and right wing nut jobs can be blamed for the election of the messiah. The right wing nuts just stayed home and did not vote and the left wingers came out in droves. I am also a little afraid that some of the so called Puma vote did not materialize as expected. I was hoping that some type of formal organization would come out of the Puma movement, but to date that seems to have faded.

  • Ferd Berfle

I was hoping that some type of formal organization would come out of the Puma movement, but to date that seems to have faded

It was never a formal movement to begin with so don’t expect anything along those lines. However, if you want real change, then support those in the center, irrespective of party. That is what I have done and will continue to do. It is the party system that is corrupt beyond measure and not the participants, per se.

  • http://noquarter foxyladi14

    yep..if its news..its here..
    thanks larry and susan

  • AOK

You PUMAs remind me of another sickly big cat, the Detroit Lions. The 0-16 record the Lions compiled this season is similar to the many accusations that you levied against Obama that just weren’t true. You PUMAs swung and missed on every one.

  • WildChild

let me guess. LOL you just loves da kitties?

  • AOK

Sorry, you sickly Detroit Lions, er PUMAs, overstated your strength. Also, we hope and pray the Palin represents the RNC in 2012. I’ll chalk that up as a win for Obama.

  • WildChild

I take it that your disdain for Detroit means BOBO is letting our auto industry go down in flames

  • Ferd Berfle

Did the turnip truck just leave?

  • stodgie

aok, i think by the next election more than pumas will be sick of the obamas. good luck with that!

  • Ferd Berfle

AOK is like DIMBULB stupid, if you ask me.

  • http://truthisgold.blogspot.com truthisgold

    Spot on.

  • http://truthisgold.blogspot.com truthisgold

    Amen.

  • http://truthisgold.blogspot.com truthisgold

Bernie, thank you for pointing out the facts. Unlike Rich & Co., at one of the worst fish wrappers, your willingness to state the facts is inspiring.

  • http://lesstalkmoreactivism.blogspot.com/ whoframedrudy

“In the end, with Hillary’s help, Obama won over the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pantsuits.”

I thought it was the timing of the economic meltdown. Before the meltdown, Obama was on track to lose the election. On the other hand, if the meltdown had come during the primaries, Hillary would have blown Obama out. Even the ‘Brotherhood of the Traveling Dashikis’ would have voted their wallets– for Hillary. Fact is, the Democrats dodged a bullet.

Sad to say, but I won’t miss Newswipe if they go bankrupt.

    Disenfrancised….

Please also visit the site of CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Station) that the current neocon-Dubya-look-alike government of Herr Harper wants to dismantle. CBC is referred to as the “mother corporation” and nothing will shake off its truly independent reporting financed by the federal government of Canada.

CBC and BBC were the ONLy stations that reported back in 2006 the strong objections of the then president of Kenya about Oblabla’s interference in their country’s internal politicking and Obama was blasted as “young inexperienced, meddling senator from American who has no business to interfere in our sovereign country’s elections…he’s immature and doesn’t realize that what he’s doing is wrong…”!!

Of course, Barry the Teleprompter Messiah (saw this on NoQuarter and loved his baptizing) spent thousands of US taxpayers’ money to travel to Kenya in late 2006 with Dick Morris and support his billionaire slumlord cousin Raila Odinga in his murderous civil war that left 300,000 homeless and hudreds of young girls raped and churches burned by the minority Islamist fascist under couz Raila!

This was reported by the CBC. Did MSNBC/CNN report this? Also, Odinga had signed agreement with Islamists organizations to put in SHARIA LAW and mandatory burqas for all girls and women and typical punishments via stoning and other niceties that Oblabla must have known his cousin Odinga’s campaign contained.

How on earth did misogynist immature middle-schooler Barry Soetoro whose foreign experience consistes of a teenaged backpacking trip with his boyfriend (described as ‘well hung’ in his book!) in India-Pakistan ever get to be Prezident-elect,eh?!! Zeus help us all….

  • mary

    Justus

You are so right! If indeed Hillary had ‘won over the PUMAS, Obama would have won in landslide’.
He didn’t. He got a miserly 6% over McCain when he should have swept clean the slate with at least the margin Hillary saw in WViriginia…At least 10%+ would have been the case if it weren’t for the PUMAS who refused to be blindfolded and teleprompted to the voting booth. Nope, the PUMAS were allergic to OBAMYOPIA and retained their good sight! will someone write about these months of PUMA GLORY? It truly was and IS a real movement and extends well beyond any state borders….It’s Democracy come to life fighting its stil-born status in the hands of that incompetent Empty Suit….Pumas is the Democratic Spirit that shuns misogyny, sexism and racism equally! PUMAS FOREVER!

    Buzz Latte

I read NO QUARTER DAILY–and it’s my fave source of real news. But any suggestions on what could be a good read in a magazine, other than Newsweak and Timewarp? I’d be interested in knowing this….Also, I find the Washington Post better than N.Y. Times and Krugman’s recent post was inspiring….Marie Coco writes there too I think…
    Any suggestions on good reading????????

  • mary

    Thinker

Great comments. I also read the post by Daren Hutchinson a blackAmerican professor of law who says on his first page that he started writing cause he was upset at the unreasonable Hillary-bashing by the media. He balances civil rights concerns with gay issues and women’s issues. Very interesting. I also find most interesting and enlightenging Heidi Li’s potpourri…
Of course, my favorite news source (and asylum from the cacophony of bias and prejudice out there) is NO QUARTER! Amazing what I find out in these posts that never get articulated as ‘news’ in the corrupt outlets that masquerade as “News sources” these days….

  • mary

    AOK

If it weren’t for the PUMAS voting anybody-but-Barack, you would have seen a landslide with Oblabla receiving at least 12%+ of the vote! His puny 6% showing was laughable considering the ill will toward Dubya Bushie and his policies–not to mention the economic mess!

No, this was a terribly poor showing by your Telempropter Messia! He’ll be lucky to serve the full 4-year term without calls for his resignation. He can always go back to Kenya and get a job with billionaire slumlord couz Raila Odinga whose Sharia law policies and “change” agenda he was physically present to promote there–against the wishes of the then president who called Obamma an “immature senator with foreign relations experience interfering in my country’s politics…..”

  • mary

    YES

    EXTREMIST RIGHT-WING NUTJOBS
    AND
    EXTREMIST LEFT-WING NUTJOBS

    GAVE US DUBYA….and
NOW….THE TELEMPROPTER MESSIAH (who said this on NoQuarter recently?!)

THE ONLY ADULTS IN THIS MESS WERE THE
    PUMAS!
This is the Dawning of the Age of the PUMAS–the real Democrats
