Remember this during 2009: Daily Kossacks ALL backed John Edwards, long before they went Obama

Looking back on the 2007-2008 endless Democratic primaries:

The 2002 video below is a great find. It makes a complete mockery of the Kossacks’ endless cruelty and rude, revolting revilement of anyone who supported Hillary Clinton.

Larry Johnson, NewHampster, and I were among the many diarists at Daily Kos who tried to advocate for Hillary Clinton.

Yes. It is true. Larry Johnson and I (as SusanHu), as well as NewHampster and many others, were regular contributors to Daily Kos. Our posts (posts are called “diaries” at Daily Kos) were regularly lauded by the Kossack community, and often made it to the “Recommended List.”

Then, something happened at Daily Kos. Seemingly overnight, we all became, collectively, ENEMY No. ONE.

Our sin was solely that we supported Senator Hillary Clinton. At that time, we openly and frequently stated we were willing to support other potential party nominees, with the exception of Barack Obama because we felt he was not yet qualified solely because of his lack of experience or any proof that he had taken his job as U.S. Senator seriously (which he did not). We emphasized often that he was Chair of the subcommittee on European Affairs for the Foreign Relations committee, but that he had never conducted a single hearing, let alone ever visited any European nations or met their leaders. Then there was that his chairmanship also covered NATO, of vital importance because of NATO forces’ involvement in Afghanistan. But Sen. Obama never once visited NATO leaders or generals.

That meant that we also supported the potential nomination of Sen. John Edwards who at that time was the intense FAVORITE of Kossacks, who raised massive amounts of money — and I do mean MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF MONEY — for his campaign.

The Kossacks’ overwhelming opposition to Hillary Clinton was based, they said, on her vote for the war in Iraq. Yet, they overlooked, or forgave, John Edwards’ identical vote on Iraq solely because — in order to win their support and to carry away their cash by the wheelbarrow-full — John Edwards said he was sorry for his vote.

The Kossacks also overlooked Barack Obama’s statements in 2004 that BACKED the votes of John Kerry and John Edwards for the Iraq War. They hung on solely to his inconsequential anti-war speech to a bunch of ragtag leftists in the safely ensconced far-left environs near the University of Chicago. It was a speech that was so unimportant that the Chicago media made no mention of it, and did not record or videotape it. (You all do know, don’t you, that in order to demonstrate that he gave that speech, Barack Obama had to go into a recording studio and reenact the speech? And, by the way, this back-story was revealed not by Fox News but by National Public Radio. And, since we have no actual recording with which to compare the speech, we can only take Obama’s word that that was indeed the speech he delivered that day.)

Last night, having had the opportunity to watch The West Wing for the first time (Bravo has been rerunning the entire series as a run-up to the “historic” occasion on January 20, 2009), I was looking around for old interviews about The West Wing at PBS’s CharlieRose.com.

Before actor Martin Sheen appears, in this 2002 video, to discuss his role as President Josiah Bartlet on The West Wing, Charlie Rose interviews John Edwards on the pending vote on the U.S. Senate authorizing President Bush to potentially use force against Iraq.

Edwards comes across like a TOTAL HAWK on the Iraq War.

There’s also that he was on the Senate Intelligence Committee, which means that — like Hillary Clinton — he saw the “cooked up” intelligence on the war.

Of course, I’ve never quite forgiven anyone for voting for the authorization since it was plain as day to me that President Bush was hell-bent on invading Iraq, and that the intelligence was very likely “touched up” to force Congress to vote for the resolution.

However, I was not in the U.S. Senate. I did not have the responsibility to consider the intelligence before me, nor was I under the intense pressure at the times from all sides to support President Bush’s resolution.

John Edwards somewhat got himself off the hook because he did say that he regretted his vote, whereas Hillary Clinton was not as outspoken in expressing regrets. (Since I am always willing to entertain any possibility — at least in passing — it is possible that, 50 years from now, that invasion will have been seen as the right thing to do because it gave us a permanent, immense foothold in the region. I do not know. I won’t be alive 50 years from now. I hope, for the sakes of the Americans alive at that time, that it does not turn out to have been a disaster in ways we cannot begin to predict.)

With that, I give you this video. (The audio isn’t the greatest, but you can hear the speakers if you listen closely.) And, in case this video doesn’t work here, go to the page at Charlie Rose’s site from which I obtained the code.

HERE are some more comments about this video that I shared in an e-mail with a friend:

And those sexist knuckleheads at Daily Kos bashed HILLARY while they raised vast sums of money for this guy?

Oh, and he looks so young. Baby-faced is a description that comes to mind.

I swear to god that he had plastic surgery to AGE himself. What do you want to bet?

Whatever.

And, by the way, kudos to Charlie Rose and PBS for finally making these interviews available, free of charge, to all of us. Thank you, Charlie Rose. Thank you, PBS.

(Now if we could just get the commercial networks to do the same thing. High on my wish list: 1) Tom Snyder’s great interviews, 2) Dick Cavett’s fascinating interviews, 3) William F. Buckley’s programs, and more.)

:::::

One never knows. Perhaps we’ll post a story at Daily Kos again someday. I doubt Larry will since they were intent on imposing a humiliating, unnecessary punishment on him, which he rightfully refused to comply with. And I’m not sure at this moment in time, but perhaps I’ll enter the lion’s den one of these days if I feel it sufficiently important to do so. There are dozens and dozens of my stories still up at Daily Kos. I’m glad to have that history of my writing, and I appreciate Kos not obliterating my past contributions.

  • Claude

You’re so right; it was totally unfair, and I’m sure the Michelle Obama “whitey” tape claims had nothing to do with it.

New Year’s resolution for you: more self-examination and a higher degree of credibility. (Or did I and everyone else in the world somehow miss the release of the whitey tape that was promised?)

  • HC

I am still waiting for the FISA filibuster I was promised.

Happy 2009 troll, long may you babble.

  • Andrew P

Anybody who needs a tape to detect the vileness in Michelle 0bama requires an attendant to safely cross the street.

  • DeaninMi

    Kossacks hypocrites?!? NO!!!

Why, oh why, Susan would you ever want to go back to that unreasoning echo chamber, where groupthink and censorship reign supreme???

  • the duke of marlboro

I supported Edwards initially due to his position on poverty, bringing it back to the American political dialouge.

After Edwards dropped, I lined up behind Clinton, the more I saw of her, the more I liked her, she would have made, and maybe someday will make, a very effective President.

I truly wish her the best in her position as SOS.

BTW, I was discussing Clinton with a fox news viewer the other night, she also thought Clinton was robbed, the press against her. She felt Clinton was the most qualifed, too.

First time we’ve ever agreed, politically.

  • Steve_in_KC

It was totally absurd in the primaries that Hillary was being bashed for voting “for the war” when nearly every prominent senator did the same. But Obama “voted against it” when he wasn’t even in national office yet! BS on BO!

And I’d also like to see some of those old interview shows reran. But it’s a wild longshot that we’ll ever see Tom Snyder’s shows again because of his chain smoking. As we know, that puts him in the same catagory with murderers in today’s wacky world.

Oh, as an aside to the troll above, nobody gives a flying fuck about your dead issue, so STFU.

  • oowawa

Isn’t there some kind of booby prize for the first “whitey tape” troll of the new year?

  • The Robot

It’s amazing BO got so much mileage from a vote he could not make and a speech not even covered by the media. But Barry used each of these to hoodwink by creating inference. No doubt a plurality of Obama worshipers still believe their One voted against the war.

  • Athena

I too was chased off DK for daring to support Hillary, and I recognize a lot of familiar names here. Thanks to NQ/LJ and the refugees from DK who helped create a site where free speech is tolerated. DK became an Obama cult, and it has not changed. But some of us can handle the truth, and we went elsewhere.

  • mountainaires

Aside from the fact that I remember well what happened to Larry, and the same thing happened to me at DailyKos. And aside from the fact that I was one of the people who kept linking to every thing SusanHu wrote [because I was so impressed by your research] I am still burning mad–no, not about Hillary, not about Edwards, not even about BO, who is truly irrelevant to me these days, and soon will be irrelevant to mostly everyone, imho. Ha.

No, my burning fury is reserved for those “liberal” bloggers who banned me and hundreds of other people just because we disagreed with their group-think.

They used their little fascist “moderators” and “admin” to employ nothing short of fascist thuggery to force group-think on everyone. If you succumbed to it, you were welcomed with open arms, part of their little group-think community; if you fought it, they got together to ban you. They used systems designed to keep the “community” in line, so that you were “rated” by others in the “community.”

    That’s called a “cult” people.

They’re still doing it from what I can see, and it infuriates me. And, now, even some of the bloggers who left DKos because of it, are employing the same fascist thuggery. I won’t go back because I refuse to collude in their patterns of psychological propaganda.

Why do people put up a blog with a comments section if they are going to force everyone into GROUP-THINK in their comments section? Discussion, dissent, and disagreement are the hallmark of free society, open society, intellectually honest society. One is never free to disagree with these “liberal” blogs is one? I was banned from one “liberal” blog because the blogger didn’t like that I read Powerline! I was told never to name Powerline in the comments.

    It’s breathtaking!

The one blog I still return to time and again for free and open debate and discussion is NO QUARTER. I hope you never change. You’ve got the most intellectually honest format around.

  • the duke of marlboro

That type of group think doesn’t produce success — look what happened to Cheney.

They dont’ have what it takes to truly lead, and succeed.

And secondly, it’s boring, isn’t it, with no disagreement or original thought tolerated, every whiff of dissent stepping on their brittle toes?

  • TeakwoodKite

I am on season 2 of a West Wing marathon (thanks Susan LOL) and it is of note that the “issues” that the writers picked to use are still the issues we face 8 years later.

Regardless of which IGIT is POTUS, this nation has issues that have not been dealt with. How many times can we kick the can down the road?

  • Obama: Dubay 2 Electric Boogaloo

That’s not the “whitey tape” troll that I knew…

  • snosandy

Exactly. How convenient was it for the Obama’s that the day Michelle’s “first time in my adult life I’m proud of my country,” came to light that the NYT ran the faux story of John McCain and his staffer? Will this guys LUCK ever run out?

  • http://americanpumainitaly.blogspot.com/ sarainitaly

Susan – You are FAR too good for Kos. Your diaries were great, but they were despicable. Three places I can never return, TM, Huff and Kos. Which is too bad, because there was some great stuff there, but they just crossed the line, in my book. The sites, and their communities.

And as far as the whitey tape goes, people love to trash Larry for that… But I knew someone who was in the room, at an RNC fundraiser where the video was shown. I know of different sources of people who knew of its existence. Bob Beckel heard about it from inside sources, as did Roger Stone. I also heard from people that the Clinton people knew about the tape.

So, people can still harp on it, but many, many people heard about it, and I know it exists. For some reason, it never got used, maybe it was edited to appear worse, whatever…but there is a tape.

And Susan, you are right, people like the Kos crowd loved to forget that Edwards voted for the war. They forgave him because he was a pussy and apologized. He only apologized to help his case. He is a liar and an adulterer. They forgot that 75% of the senate voted for the resolution, and had Obama actually been in the senate, I bet you anything he would have voted for it.

  • snosandy

Didn’t some of those Kossacks also high five and do the happy dance when Colin Powell, the man who sold the Iraq War to the American public, endorse Obama?

Oh, that’s right, it was Hillary Clinton’s war.

  • http://americanpumainitaly.blogspot.com/ sarainitaly

your diaries were great but Kos was despicable, not your diaries. that was written weird. haha

  • http://americanpumainitaly.blogspot.com/ sarainitaly

how can people learn and grow if they don’t engage in debate and alternative thought?

i love differing opinions – it broadens the mind.

All i ask is that people are respectful, or at least decent. we can disagree, and shake hands afterwards! :O)

  • snosandy

I never went to Daily Kos, but I found HuffPo to be pretty similar to what you all describe.

  • http://www.partizane.com NewHampster

All my diaries are still there plus I snagged copies for my own back ups.

My take was that most of dKos was against two things, Hillary and “corporatists”. They were just the point guard in the hidden war to take out the woman who would be bringing her husband back with her to be the President in the bedroom.

The entire negative campaign was always anyone but Clinton. First the blogger boyz went for Johnny boy due to his cute whiteness then they decided they weren’t racists and backed Obama the Magnificent and Glorious.

I even remember very clearly when Markos wrote that he had had it with Obama’s flip flopping and that Hillary was the best candidate. Within two days, someone got to him, gave him a Newsweak gig and he switched allegiance to Obama the Magnificent and Glorious.

That was about the time, we of Alegre’s Flying Monkey Squadron decided to move out. The writer’s strike was my favorite time of 2008.

  • http://noquarterusa.net/ SusanUnPC

Oh I don’t. But someday I may find it morally necessary to do so. In the faint hope that one or two might hear me. There are, after all, “lurkers” there – thousands of them, actually — and one never knows if there’s a chance, perhaps even a good one, to influence them.

  • http://www.partizane.com NewHampster

    methinks she understands.

the problem to me, is that dkos is such an awesome site. The software markos had customized is so fast and instantaneous that it makes blogging into a cross between live chatting and forums.

there were really good people there and many sub-communities who never had anything to do with what happened up front. I met some people keeping historical blogs and some others like myself who kept field diaries as we worked for our candidates.

I truly wish Markos had resisted and stayed neutral much like the folks at MyDD did until close to the end.

  • snosandy

I reread those first few sentences a few times trying to figure out what you meant. Thanks for clarifying.

And don’t forget our VP elect also voted for the Iraq War Resolution.

  • http://noquarterusa.net/ SusanUnPC

    My latest fantasy:

    Hillary Clinton is President.

Josiah Bartlet is her Secretary of the Treasury. He would know what to do about the economic crisis. A Nobel Laureate in economics, no less. And HE would have brought in Paul Krugman to help advise, and then HE would have — at HRC’s bidding — brought in the practical experts who know the banking industry intimately, as well as all the other major financial and business institutions — and done the correct, practical, fast-remedy, and longterm-solution acts that are required at this time.

  • Mandelay

The Daily Kos’ loss is our gain. I say give those bums “no quarter” and keep up the good, much-needed work of maintaining this uncensored source of news and views for folk of all persuasions. NQ is refreshing and lively and all that good stuff, but in these awful days of the death of real journalism, NQ is among the last outposts of uncensored political thought. Salute!

  • bert

“And, since we have no actual recording with which to compare the speech, we can only take Obama’s word that that was indeed the speech he delivered that day.”

Yes. It is always amazing to me that Obama cannot produce much of any, if any at all, of his records from his days in the IL Senate. But by gosh he could remember word-for-word or was able to find a copy of THAT speech to make a recording of it for the campaign. Strange.

  • http://noquarterusa.net/ SusanUnPC

Oh yes, Hampster. That software. I would KILL to have that software here. We can only imagine the cost and the time it took Kos and his programmers to create that software.

If he were an open-source kind of person — heh — he’d make it available in small, medium and large sizes for other blogs.

You wrote great diaries there, NewHampster. And so did the rest of our merry band of Hillary supporters.

Then there were diarists like Alegre who stood on her head to avoid writing anything negative. She insisted on writing solely positive pieces about Hillary — not bashing other candidates. But they were as cruel to her as to those of us who did KNOCK the other candidates on their noggins.

(Which is a great illustration of why the Kossacks are not, the vast majority of them, real thinkers. Had they realized what Alegre was doing — had their minds been capable of such complex thought (Oh, she’s writing only positively about Hillary and not bashing anyone else — which is REALLY DEEP STUFF, huh!) — they would have treated her well.

There are a very few who do have minds. Meteor Blades, for one. But most are just immature thugs.

  • http://noquarterusa.net/ SusanUnPC

Can you imagine what the editors and fact-checkers have to go through every time Kos submits a column? Writing is NOT one of Kos’s gifts. Nor does he apparently know how to use spellcheck.

  • the duke of marlboro

I thought the software made DK more suspectible to hacking, and cracking, (even) via the more insidious methods of disguising propaganda.

And I would say they aren’t necessarily aware, a problem with a DK type of blog.

  • TeakwoodKite

I am attempting to time it so that I get to the last episode on the 20th.

    But there’s a twist.

For what those West Wing fans stunned by the similarity between the fictitious Matthew Santos and the real-life Barack Obama have not known is that the resemblance is no coincidence. When the West Wing scriptwriters first devised their fictitious presidential candidate in the late summer of 2004, they modelled him in part on a young Illinois politician – not yet even a US senator – by the name of Barack Obama.

“I drew inspiration from him in drawing this character,” West Wing writer and producer Eli Attie told the Guardian. “When I had to write, Obama was just appearing on the national scene. He had done a great speech at the convention [which nominated John Kerry] and people were beginning to talk about him.”

    .

  • http://www.partizane.com NewHampster

The software was open source but has not been updated in many years. I think he took a very early version and completely rebuilt it.

I looked at it and still have the beginnings of an install but I don’t think it comes close to dKos in it’s 2006 version.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scoop_(software)

    http://scoop.kuro5hin.org/

  • http://noquarterusa.net/ SusanUnPC

    That was so obvious.

Before I realized that, though, I couldn’t stand Matt Santos. He was always so obnoxious, rude, arrogant.

And I was ROOTING for Alan Alda’s character to win. He would have made a much better president.

  • tpt/ny

I heard Axelrod was a consultant or something on this script.

  • the duke of marlboro

To clarify, the “quickness” of the software disallowed any type of (needed) gatekeeper, (anyone able to post anything, openly, and instantaneously), DK instead relying on a bunch of boyz shouting “troll,” to maintain order and direction.

And I thought the blog suffered for it.

Same with that silly rating system.

  • http://wiskeytangofoxtrotoscar.blogspot.com/ James (San Jose)

Sorry, there is no way history judges Iraq other than as an epic failure of American policy. History deals with facts. And the most basic facts point to a very dismal conclusion for any Historian honestly appraising them.

First the case for war was based at best on faulty intelligence gathered in way that reinforced ideological biases in the Administration. The overwhelming evidence points to a decision making process that was deeply flawed and at the very least self-deceiving.

Second the while the war was a success, Saddam Hussein’s government was overthrown, the occupation has been a disaster. Hundreds of thousands of Iraqis are dead and four million Iraqis are displaced. Ethnic cleansing and tribal warfare have regressed the state of Iraq to at least the state of affairs prior to the end times of the Ottoman Empire. Iraq has shifted from a secular dictatorship to a ill and ungoverned Shia theocratic state.

Third the position of the USA has measurably deteriorated in the Mideast and the world due to the occupation of Iraq and the incompetently managed war in Afghanistan.

Finally it is A-historic to say that the attempt to station American bases in the heart of Mesopotamia would ever be seen as a good thing. From at least the Boer war and perhaps since the Sino-Japanese War of 1894 there has been a broad Historical trend against Imperialism and its concordant trends of cultural and political hegemony. Both World Wars have only grown the anti Imperialist mindset throughout the world. In Iraq both nationalist and religious ideology are dead set against foreign soldiers residing on Iraqi soil. Permanent Bases in Iraq are a political and social oxymoron in the land of the two rivers. Unfortunately History already has discerned a pattern that the attempt to have permanent bases in Iraq follows : it’s called “imperial overstretch.”

  • Ellen D

Yes, although I have been to date only a comments writer (trying to run 3 companies in this economy takes almost all my time), I first met you all at DKos and followed Alegre out, continuing on until I am almost completely NQ.
Do I agree 100% with every diary? No, but I respect all the differences and enjoy the spirited discussion. I enjoy Larry – in 2 of the countries I have lived and worked in I have been accused, to my amusement, of being CIA. I took it as a great compliment, even though I have laughingly said that they would have to be scraping the bottom of the barrel if they were recruiting foreign-born animators.
Then I read about Sir Alexander Korda and why he was knighted by Britain after WW2. If you don’t know the story of the Hungarian-born British film producer who moved to Hollywood during the war and used his international activities as a film producer in a then-neutral country (the U.S) to move money around the world to support British Intelligence activities, I suggest you check it out.

Many Obots also believe that 0 had been in the US Senate for 12 or 16 years. They did not realize that O was in the Ill. STATE Senate NOT the US Senate for all that time.

I’ve yet to talk to an 0bot who actually knows much at all about Obama’s background. Some think he grew up in Kansas (Biden made a similar remark). Many believe that 0 worked and litigated as a civil rights attorney (not much there and I believe that the law firm is still refusing to release the list of cases he supposedly worked on).

This guy is one of the biggest con men I’ve ever seen in my life — the media just never bothered to do any digging or questioning.

Meanwhile a PI in Hawaii has found the divorce decree of 0′s parents — he is listed as a child born in Kenya. Interesting.

  • TeakwoodKite

I used to be of the opinion that life imitating art was a function of chance to a large extent.

Now the lines have been so blured one can’t not assign any value to certain art forms without an underlining suspision that in this case, Laurance O’Donnell had other plans.

Attie put in a call to Obama aide David Axelrod. “I said, ‘Tell me about this guy Barack Obama.’” As a result, character traits that the two share include Santos’s insistence on not being defined by his race and Obama’s soaring rhetoric

    .

  • Ellen D

Sorry, I agree with Susan. It is impossible to know how things will look 50 years from now, no matter how much I was outraged about how transparently dishonest the reasons for going in were at the time.
As for Obama, I subscribe to “the bigger they are, the harder they fall” in looking forward.

0 served in the Illinois State Senate for six years, if “served” is the word for it, judging from what he accomplished for his constituents and how many times he voted “present.”

Third the position of the USA has measurably deteriorated in the Mideast and the world due to the occupation of Iraq and the incompetently managed war in Afghanistan
    ———-
And the blatant neocon support for Israel, too, at least prior to this administration the US tried to maintain an ideal of neutrality.

But again, things change, this is hardly the end, this is not fiction, right?

I was speaking to someone over the holiday, he stated the US army, in part, sends small groups of soldiers into Afghanistan, where they set up shop in a rural areas, working in part to build infrastructure (schools, governments, etc), while also defending.

Interesting isn’t it, almost modern day missionaries.

And again, how do we measure time, and success in the face of time?

Thank you Susan and Larry — I read most of your diaries at DK — always well written and helpful in giving details on complex subjects.

Then the nastiness began — if those diaries are still there then they are also records of the insanity and the cult behavior supporting Obama.

I’d rather put up with the irritating software glitches HERE at NQ then the slicker software at DK — because the people are far superior (except for the trolls from DK who believe it is their job to convert us to their 0-CULT).

My husband liked Edwards — his message about poverty etc. was a good one. I like Clinton — 0-was never a choice — his lack of experience and consistent pattern of dishonesty were the major reasons.

  • glennmcgahee

I would never link to or read that Kos site EVER! It has become obvious that power corrupts absolutely. But at least its all coming back to bite them in the butt. They are gay you know. So am I but I wasn’t stupid enough to think Obama was on my side. I actually watched his campaign instead of making things up in my head about Eutopia. Plus, I guess I am a little older so I’ve seen it all before. Hope and Change is nothing new to politics.

  • DeaninMi

To be honest, I hadn’t gone back to look at some of your old primary diaries, so I took the time to follow the link you provided (thank you).

I paid particular attention to the comments you received.

I must say, after reading some of them, I can totally understand why you and Larry left that den of denial.

Around here, it’s known as the “why’d he” tape. Bwahahaha!

  • NCgirl

I don’t believe he ever made this infamous speech. I believe it was all contrived in anticipation of campaigning for president. If Obama had indeed made a speech, someone, i.e. a member of the local press, a staffer, etc., would have recorded it in some fashion.

  • http://firefox AnnieCollier

Yes, on Huff & Puff, I found that I was welcome so long as the discussion involved denigrating Bush/Cheney. When we got to the primary, I was as dumb as anyone else over Edwards. Lost my primary vote in CA because he didn’t have the honesty to drop out earlier. Afterward, supporting Hillary, I was censored and couldn’t get much posted. After seeing whatshisname on Bill Maher, I never bothered with DK.

I do credit them with one thing…once while lurking on Huff & Puff someone referenced Hillaryis44 and NQ. Never bothered with them again.

Last Fall, Ariana was a speaker at the Monterey Conference Center…sponsored by the local Obama commuunity college, Obama Newspaper, etc., and I laughed my head off when it was revealed she’d be speaking on ethics in communication. Talk about unconscious. Hey AH: First learn the difference between S**t and Shinola before you take your arrogant self out in public pontificating on ethics.

    LOL! LOL!

yep, you know, it was all, you know, Hillary’s fault, you know, and the great one, you know, said he said in a speech, you know, that he’s more qualified because, you know, he has sound judgment, you know, because he’s against the war but you know, he’s going to sit down with leaders of Hamas and everyone else, you know so that you know we all can have peace in this world.

  • Nellie

    NCgirl,

Obama did make a speech in 2002. He was the lead in to Jesse Jackson Sr. who was the PRIMARY speaker that day.

Marilyn Katz, Carl Davidson, Bernadine Dohrn among the other Chicago based old 60′s radicals, and still current members of the Communist Party, were the ones who pushed Obama forward when the first choice backed out.

Unlike Susan, I would not bet that Obama’s recreation is the SAME speech he gave in 2002. Though Susan is absolutely correct in saying is was so noteworthy, that even the Chicago media totally ignored it.

  • Nellie

Right – only 55 days a year. Given Obama’s history, I for one wonder how many times he actually showed up for work, other than coming in to vote “present”.

we’re still waiting on Obama’s original unforged birth certificate too. Which do you think is more important, Michelle Obama being racist or her husband being an illegal citizen of this country? Hmm, lets see, I’ll make it easy for you since Obama trolls lack logic and reason. Let’s ship both their stupid asses over to Kenya since they think Odinga is so great. We’ll see how they like their little girls treated like the Kenya females. Dumbass…

The two good things about his software: 1) you can post comments in place via AJAX, without reloading the entire page, 2) you can click on “your hotlist” to see if people have replied to your comments.

Other than that, it was the content that made that site good. Now it just looks like angry dittoheads of the left, with kos’ cocky swagger dominating the front page. I don’t miss it. I also don’t miss my addiction to checking replies to my comments.

The historian that blogged there was/is good, UnitaryMoonbat. Other than that, meh.

  • firelight2012

How about just setting up this blog to have diaries too?

I was a DailyKos reader, infrequent commenter from late 2003 to early 2008….eventually driven away by the Hillary hate. I don’t ever want to go back, I’d rather just find a better place.

I now mostly visit the PUMA blogsphere and sometimes a few conservative blogs. I think I get many viewpoints on issues that way, without the delusional B0 worship.

  • I’m a Linda too

Yep. I also like to remind folks that Markos was pushing for Billie Boy Richardson until he was getting no traction.

  • http://noquarterusa.net/ SusanUnPC

OMG. You saw some of those? I got so that I NEVER read the comments. At first, I was somewhat shocked. Then I was so utterly disgusted I didn’t give a damn about them.

but I also know that they had a BIG role in trying to make my life utter hell, and i’ll never forgive them for that.

  • http://noquarterusa.net/ SusanUnPC

Please don’t put words in my mouth. Show me where I said I thought he said the same thing. I just didn’t get into the entire story … the point of my article was not his speech (about which I’ve written at length in the past) but about John Edwards and utter irony of the Kossacks’ support of him. Thanks.

  • http://noquarterusa.net/ SusanUnPC

    Oh god. No wonder.

The ideal route for this series would have been for Alda to have won, and continue the series for four more years with a Republican moderate as president.

Instead, they tank at the end because SMITS is a piss-poor, BORRRRRRRRRRRRING actor who isn’t even good-looking.

Plus they dare not continue with a cut-out of the real president in a TV series — NBC would have been attacked ferociously.

  • Winston

Happy New Year Fellow NQers. Ignore the troll. He will turn to stone after playing the whitey tape card over and over again.

Does anyone actually believe that Michelle Obama doesn’t resent white people? That is what made the white tape so plausible in the first place. That it never appeared does not mean that it doesn’t exist, and if it was all bogus the fact remains; Michelle Obama has all the feminine grace of Cynthia Monkinney on crack.

    No racist slurs please.

    New Hampster you said:

The software markos had customized is so fast and instantaneous that it makes blogging into a cross between live chatting and forums.”

Are you and Susan SURE that it was Markos and HIS programmers who developed this?

In following this very sad saga, I noted that first Markos was offered space in “The Hill”. Then he was offered a weekly column in “Newsweek” opposite Karl Rove. Now in fairness, Markos is NOT the most erudite well written person on the left.

The suddenness as to which Kos’ blog became a cesspool of cultism, with frankly some horrific remarks made against Susan was awfully fast. Me thinks that this “software” might be some sort of “payment” for Kos “cooperation” with the Axelrod propaganda machine! As a New Hamppshirite, I am more than sceptical when all these “happy coincidences” play out in a relatively short time.

Unlike you and Susan, I was leaning Edwards at first. Normally the national press is just about bearable during the quadriennial “Dog and Pony Show” in NH. This year they were absolutely despicable and overbearing ad nausam.

Obama raised my suspicions in more than a few ways in the lead up to the primaries”

    1. He chose venues that accomodated ONLY large crowds and made sure he was NOT availabe to answer questions.

    2. He was charging to go see him. I got into a few discussions with my oldest grandson as to WHY I refused to give him money to go see Obama.

In fact this is one of my MAIN points. NO Politician should get away with charging to hear them speak. If people simply did not go or told them they are nuts they would get the maessage quickly that they had better make it a point to let people speak with them and ask questions. IMHO a politican OWES it to us “We the People” to answer questions and make themselves available for same and for vetting.

    3. While I only made a few trips to Manchester, and only 2 to Nashua, I was appalled at the MESS those ACORN people were making of our streets and public ways, as well as their very PUSHY attitudes. Infuriated does not begin to describe how I and my neighbors in Concord felt when we learned they were “bussed” in. You live further south, so perhaps you could share you impressions with us.

    4. The fact that one of Obama’s surrogate groups were giving kids ages 18 -29, $50 – $100 “gas money” to go vote for him made me livid.

5 Obama falsely blaming Hillary for making a big deal out of his illegal Robot calls, when former NH legislatures from Keene were the ones who reported him to the SoS.

Hillary’s exemplary behavior, and the incendary actions of the national media turned me to support her. I was so proud she gave her victory speech at the college where I previously taught.

And I have Susan to thank for continuing to encourage me to research Obama. I am grateful I did, and frankly I would not let him, nor any of his representatives on my property – EVER!

Susan, Sara is 100% RIGHT – you are FAR, FAR too good to ever debase youself or your work by posting at KOS ever again. The internet is a relatively small place. Those truly seeking truth and well sourced stories will find you, New Hampster Alegre, Uppity, Riverdaughter and the others. There is no need for you to search for these people- they will come to you if their motives are for real veracity.

Northwest. The link below is probably why the law firm will not list his cases. You see Obama is probably most responsible for pushing the mortgage companies to give loans to unqualified borrowers contributing to the resulting mortgage crisis and economic meltdown. He sued Citibank in federal court claiming racial discrimination (1994). Case was settled when bank agreed to give loans in 1998.
Since this was a federal case, banks all over the country were forced to make these risky loans to unqualified buyers without sufficient collateral. Through this action Sen Obama bares a heavy responsibility for the housing crisis, stock market losses impacting people’s 401ks, retirements, and other incomes. OBAMA KNOWS THAT EVERYONE INCLUDING HIS SUPPORTERS WOULD BE UTTERLY PISSED OFF if they knew this info. Find his name on page 3 under Plantiffs lawyers.

    Susan,

I felt that this comment was very, very charitable – more so than I can be toward Obama:

And, since we have no actual recording with which to compare the speech, we can only take Obama’s word that that was indeed the speech he delivered that day.)

    Right.

And you see how the software, the technical organization of the site kind of led to that type of behavior, that type of thinking?

And then I wonder if it plays into the formation of group think, the greater group social dynamics, (people being people, that is)…

So, I really hope Susan doesnt adopt it, like Twitter, I’m not really sure in it’s present form it adds anything to genuine, thoughtful, discussion.

Dk and hupo are full of clutter.

word. i’m still waiting for obama to give back all the money he was given in his campaign, over the amount he would have gotten through public financing, which he promised to use. hey Obot – isn’t it getting embarrassing to support your boy these days?

  • Claude

Even if Michelle Obama is every bit as awful as you seem to believe – and even if Barack Obama had as many unfair advantages as you appear to think – that doesn’t change the fact that a race-baiting and completely unsubstantiated claim originated from this blog that there was tape of the future First Lady talking about “whitey.” The fact that that doesn’t seem to enter the author’s mind when looking at the disregard with which No Quarter is largely held these days is pretty telling.

But I guess it’s easier to call me a troll and duck responsibility for that claim than to look in the mirror.

I hear there are some great after-Christmas sales on tin foil. No Quarter bloggers and their bootlicks should stock up – it will keep you in hats for the rest of the year at a nice discount.

  • don

Not sure where Andrew got his information but PlainsRadio’s blog site had been discussing it a couple of days ago. The blog now in fact has a copy of that divorce decree posted but in my reading it, I do not find anything about Obama’s having been born in Kenya contained in it and apparently he was over the age of 18 at the time of the decree and his name does not appear in the decree either. However, his sister’s, who was under 18 at the time, is listed by name and date of birth.

  • The Robot

Unfair advantages? More like the lowest, most vile politics most have ever seen. And race-baiting was just one of the tactics used by the transcendent One; where nearly every word uttered by Hillary or Bill Clinton was construed by the BO campaign and a compliant media as racist.

  • Ted

MESSAGE TO EVERY MEMBER OF CONGRESS:

When counting the electoral votes, either Congress finds by 1/8/09 that Obama, not being an Article II “natural born citizen”, fails to qualify as President whereupon Biden becomes the full fledged President under 3 USC 19 (free to pick his own VP such as Hillary) or thereafter defers to the Supreme Court to enjoin Obama’s inauguration with Biden becoming only Acting President under the 20th Amendment until a new President is duly determined.

The preferable choice, at least for the Democrats, should seem obvious.

Typical Obamabite that loves to talk about the whitey tape instead of focusing on BO stealing the election through caucus fraud, buying off super delegates, and unaccounted for donors for several hundred million dollars to his campaign. The Obama cyberbullies are great at ignoring how “that one” set up his website to accept donations over the $2300 limit and from foreign donors.

Let’s not forget the media cultists that ignored or glossed over BO’s political, college, and socialist records. BO is more corrupt than Governor Blago. It took two years for President Nixon to resign and the scrutiny on Obama will intensify.

By the way, Ray LaHood, BO’s nominee to be the Secretary of Transportation is connected to Governor Blago through Bill Cellini. Cellini is the Republican moneyman and fundraiser with direct links to Mayor Daley and other Chicago politicians. Cellini also happens to be the head of the Illinois Pavement Assn. Do you remember how BO promised to create jobs through rebuilding our infrastruce? Therefore, BO’s “jobs bill” is tied his nominee- Republican Ray LaHood-public infrastructure project jobs, Cellini, Blago, and Daley.

Still want to talk about the whitey tape?

  • Claude

Fine – let’s even accept your position in this comment. So: where’s the tape?

  • Claude

More importantly, what universe are we living in when people are still flogging the Obama-isn’t-an-American story?

What universe are we living when Obama and his camp raised the issue of citizenship re: John McCain but now are exempt from the issue?

Excellent point!! It’s only after being away from daily orange and looking at it from a banned user who couldn’t comment even if I wanted to, that I can see how group-thinky it is.

I work in Internet advertising, and I know that all the pageviews DO bring bigger returns because sometimes an ad being brought up in a browser brings revenue to that sight owner regardless of whether anybody clicks on it. (This is called an “impression.”) It must be very tempting for site owners (“publishers”) to up the pageviews, regardless of what it does to the quality of their site or readership.

  • Mort

You’re just not making sense, Claude.

What does one issue have to do with the other?

  • AF catfish

Yes it was his software. Susan and others (like myself) were regular visitors to the site and saw the features evolve, one at a time, over hte course of a few years. I particularly remember when one of the site’s developers implemented the AJAX commenting feature.

People want to believe a conspiracy because it’s somehow comforting to them to believe somebody is in control of the events around them. But no conspiracy here, other than kos wants to be a player, and therefore acquiesced to the paid-troll takeover of his site.

  • Mort

Actually, the after Chrsitmas sales have been disappointing, at least around me.

Those are the Soetoro divorce papers, not Obama divorce papers. Soetoro being the Indonesian his mother married after divorcing his father.

No reason for him to be in those papers, unless he was adopted by Mr Soetoro.

  • candymarl

What is it with you people and that tape? You obviously flunked reading comprehension.

The Obama camp acknowledged it’s existence with a statement that Michelle was misunderstood and said “why’d he not whitey”. The tape of said conference was pulled from the church website.

If the tape is totally non-existent why would Obama’s own people say Michelle was misunderstood?

    Please stop. The stupid burns.

    …Cynthia Monkinney…

Calling a black woman a monkey?

Am I the only reader of this blog that objects to this kind of racism and misogyny?

I thought it was bad when “rw” called Obama a “black…bastard” and then the mods deleted only those comments that called “rw” out for his (her?) racism.

[See http://www.noquarterusa.net/blog/2008/12/08/why-is-anyone-surprised-by/ Note: the strike-throughs made to certain comments are not the deletions I'm talking about. There were two responses to "rw" that called his comments racist. Both were subsequently deleted.]

But this monkey comment is even lower. This is knuckle-dragging, troglodyte racism. The reaction — or lack of one — from readers and moderators will further define NQ.

Here’s a relevant comment on this sort of situation:

It’s disturbing enough that these ideas exist in an ostensibly progressive movement. What’s even more disturbing is this: no one within the movement appears to condemn these ideas.

My old friend, Larry Johnson, knows about manipulating elections from his training with the Central Intelligence Agency. He doesn’t want Obama to win the nomination for whatever reason, and he’s in full propaganda mode to do everything he can to frighten the superdelegates. He claims to have a shocking tape of Michelle Obama ranting in some anti-white diatribe. He promises to produce this tape tomorrow at 9am.
From what I understand, it is a tape of Michelle Obama criticizing the Bush administration.

    How you’d write it:

Why did Bush cut folks off medicaid?
Why did Bush let New Orleans drown?
Why did Bush do nothing about Jena?
Why did Bush put us in Iraq for no reason?
    How you’d say it:

Why’d he cut folks off medicaid?
Why’d he let New Orleans drown?
Why’d he do nothing about Jena?
Why’d he put us in Iraq for no reason?

How Larry Johnson wants you to hear it:

    Whitie cut folks off medicaid?
    Whitie let New Orleans drown?
    Whitie do nothing about Jena?
Whitie put us in Iraq for no reason?

I’m going to be honest with you. Both SusanHu and Larry Johnson have been friends of mine. They have both done a lot for me and I am grateful and indebted to them. Any issues I’ve had with their activities in this election I have kept private. I haven’t visited their site in four months because I found it too personally painful to read what they were writing and I did not want to be tempted to respond. I thought I owed them that. But loyalty can only go so far. If they publish this allegation tomorrow, I will no longer speak with them. And I say that with great sorrow.

This election has ruined a lot of friendships. I have tried hard not to let it ruin mine. But smears of this type are unforgivable. I have been forebearing. Perhaps, in retrospect, I have been too forebearing. That’s all I say. This is too painful

How do you explain this then?

    The Michelle Tape
    by BooMan

Why has Obama spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on attorneys to keep from showing the official vault version of his BC?

  • NoKKKuarter

Your support of pure racism did that.

  • NoKKKuarter

This site always bans opponents. It is just rubbish at doing so.

  • http://americanpumainitaly.blogspot.com/ American Girl in Italy

speaking for myself, i try and read a lot of comments, and moderate or comment when i see something offensive. the moderator of this site can’t read every single thing on this blog, it is impossible. the writers, and regulars try to call out those offending comments when we see them.

why are you ragging on NQ for Winston’s comment, and not going after Winston? You are perfectly capable of replying to Winston, just as we are.

You can also email the moderator and inform them when there is a racist/offensive comment, that perhaps was missed.

  • Claude

The fact that no FISA filibuster took place is a huge issue for me, actually, and something with which I have a big problem.

What I don’t get however, is the complete failure to take ANY accountability for the repeated whitey tape claims. If it doesn’t exist, man-up and say “We blew it, but we have a bunch of other concerns, specifically, etc., etc., etc.” (And please try to stay off the utterly stupid non-citizen thing.) If the tape exists, produce it.

Instead of either of those things happening, it’s all about attacking me for raising the point that the whitey tape claims are more than likely a significant factor in shaping opinion about this blog and the bloggers on it. Really, that’s so hard to understand?

  • Claude

I’m not specifically aware of that claim made by the Obama camp, but if they did, it was raised in response to all of the dingbat claims that Obama wasn’t born in Hawaii. It certainly isn’t “noble,” but if it was done they were fighting fire with fire. Obama is “exempt” because his Hawaiian birth certificate has been produced and examined and found to be authentic.

(I say this realizing that the authentication will not have been “good enough” and that no such vetting will suffice until everyone has had a chance to hold it in their own hands and do whatever home testing they feel is justified. Of course, that kind of makes my point for me.)

  • Claude

He hasn’t. Again, you are making my point for me. (See here if you won’t take my word for it.)

  • ATodd

The stupid may be burning you but given how ignorant you are, your life must be bliss.

Seems that who ever posted this link got the source of why you were botted from KOS and the why’d he story.

    http://www.boomantribune.com/story/2008/6/1/235757/2325

  • Claude

I am willing to engage in conversation on any of those topics if you have the sack to admit that the whitey tape was concocted out of whole cloth, and can exhibit enough maturity to realize that shrieking about stupid, spurious and easily debunked claims – like the white tape – might have caused reasonable people to regard you as less than credible.

  • http://americanpumainitaly.blogspot.com/ American Girl in Italy

I posted this elsewhere, but will repost for your benefit:

And as far as the whitey tape goes, people love to trash Larry for that… But I know someone who was in the room, at an RNC fundraiser where the video was shown, and also heard how vile it was. I know of several different sources of people who knew of its existence, and I heard about it before I ever read it here on NQ (although I doubt I knew about it before Larry, but it was circulating before it was posted here). Also, Bob Beckel heard about it from inside sources, as did Roger Stone. I also heard from a source that the Clinton people knew about the tape.

So, people can still harp on it, but many, many people heard about it, and I know it exists. For some reason, it never got used, maybe it was edited to appear worse, whatever…but there is a tape.

That story about *why’d* vs. whitey was circulated by some blogger as an explanation on what the tape *probably* contained. It got picked up as fact.

The tapes originated with Giuliani, who, once he dropped out, turned them over to McCain’s group. They were used for fundraising purposes, but never surfaced. Larry NEVER claimed to have the tapes. Several sources were working to get their hands on the tape.

All I can figure out is that McCain refused to use the tape, much like he refused to go after Wright.

But this was not a made up rumor by Larry.

  • Mort

    Tool.

    ROTFLMAO.

    Don’t ever change…

  • FrenchNail

I seems that the divorce record of Obama Sr and Durham has been found and mentionned a child, born in Kenya…. And that would have been stated by Obama Sr.

  • Mort

I agree with you, I find the racism despicable, too.

  • DanNY

There are several blogs I once frequented daily including the daily kos. I pledge never to surf to any of them again after the treatment I received from the “Obama Squad” (site monitors) as well as others who frequented those blogs. One day when I did lurk back “in” it felt as though a pit developed in my stomach again and I never want to have to endure what that felt like to have walked into a vomit bin and feel trashed. I am not so inclined to pass through those vile blogs again. IMHO – I hope they all fall apart and fizzle into oblivion for being so closed minded and I can’t find the word but you all know them for who they are. They point fingers while three are pointing back at them.

  • sceptical

Um… no. It’s another whitey tape, from the same people that promised you the API tape. You’ve been had …. again.

  • sceptical

Plains Radio is claiming it is “on it’s way from Hawaii” – the story is dubious in the extreme. Ed Hale is the same character who was about to publish the API tapes, but somehow never did. It’s always due in another 6 hours ….

  • sceptical

No you don’t – you just fell for an urban legend.

why are you ragging on NQ for Winston’s comment, and not going after Winston? You are perfectly capable of replying to Winston, just as we are.

I think the answers to your questions were evident in my original post, but I’ll be more specific.

    1. I did going after Winston. I called him a knuckle-dragging troglodyte racist. What you read was indeed me “replying to Winston.”

    2. I’m ragging on NQ because, as I pointed out, I’d seen a case where a moderator deliberately erased criticism of a racist post — and left the racist comment untouched. It’s still there. The fact that the protected racism was directed towards Obama would seem to explain why it was acceptable to the anonymous NQ moderator who edited that thread.

This is far from a unique episode at NQ. Just yesterday, I commented on another racist message and got nothing but flack from readers. No comments from any moderators, either.

It’s a fact that former contributors (e.g. dcmediagirl) have abandoned NQ because the tone got so ugly here. Here’s what “Leslie,” another former NQ contributor, had to say six months ago (over at boomantribune) about racism at NQ:

While I was an NQ contributor, Larry Johnson repeatedly disowned racist remarks and banned anyone who made them. His blog is a nightmare now.

    http://www.boomantribune.com/comments/2008/6/1/235757/2325/1

Outside this blog, NQ has a widespread reputation as a crazy, nasty place. That’s not just my opinion — that’s a fair observation of the comments anyone with a browser can read. This former NQ reader is typical:

But to say the things that SusanHu did about a candidate’s spouse… stuff that makes no sense at all except if she were recruiting for a white-supremacist organization…

    http://www.boomantribune.com/comments/2008/6/1/235757/2325/37

Susanhu, in case you didn’t know, is NQ’s SusanUnPC. She wrote the article at the top of this thread. She appears to be the main administrator here. Do you see any comment from her about Winston calling McKinney a monkey?

  • Obamanos

    Sigh…so typical of NQ.

Claude says that the problems Daily Kos had with Susan and Larry might have been avoided if they adhered to a higher standard of credibility than they applied to the “whitey tape” rumor.

And HC responds by calling Claude a troll and changing the subject.

NQ will never recover as long as this head-in-the-sand defensiveness persists.

The people who now dominate this blog can’t deal with problems like the “whitey tape” fiasco. Larry told nonsensical, contradictory stories about who his sources were and what was supposedly on the tape, and that was hugely damaging to his credibility and that of NQ in general.

As long as Larry and Susan and petulant name-callers like HC continue to reject the honest, reflective thinking called for by the “whitey tape” bust, NQ will remain a laughingstock for many reasonable people.

  • http://edgeoforever.wordpress.com/ Not Your sweetie

Edwards’s vote for war was hardly identical to Hillary’s. Edwards co-sponsored the bill, didn’t just vote for it. And never explained the reasons.

  • Ellen

I have been banned from every pro-Hillary site – if not outright (my posts were not posted), then absolutely vilified for anything favorable said about Obama. I have gone through Daily Kos and the postings of people such as Alegre, Uppity woman, etc. and frankly, I saw very little in the way of negative comments towards these people.
You Obama haters keep saying you are banned on obama sites – no different than what the Hillary sites did and continue to do. Whereas I see that daily kos and others are far more favorable to Hillary supporters and pro-Hillary comments now – willing to get over the primary antagonism. Hillary supporters? Not giving an inch.

  • Strawberrybitch

Um, you are on probably the FIRST Pro Hillary site and you haven’t been banned. Liar.

  • Ellen

I may not have been banned from this site (although many of my posts were deleted soon after posting) but have certainly attacked and called names and told not to come back.
And why would I lie about this? Your comments certainly give reason to your name (and I am not referring to this comment – you have been one of the most offensive of no quarters ‘ posters).
