Today’s edition of Senate Gone Wild: Armed guards to keep Burris out

No kidding. I didn’t make this up.

If Roland Burris tries to enter the rarefied airspace of the Senate chambers, he will be stopped by armed guards.

Reporting from Washington — Should Roland Burris show up for duty in the Senate on Tuesday, armed police officers stand ready to bar him from the floor.

This cinematic showdown is among an elaborate set of contingencies that Democratic leaders are planning if, as expected, the former Illinois attorney general appointed by Gov. Rod R. Blagojevich shows up with newly elected senators to press his claim that he is the legitimate replacement for President-elect Barack Obama.

See? I told you that you can’t make this shit up! Right here in America, comrades!

Democratic leaders hope to avert such a standoff. And Burris, in an interview Wednesday, said he hoped to claim the Senate seat without added drama.

changepolice2Oh please, come on guys, please do NOT divert this event!

It will provide days of exciting material for the blogisphere!

I beg of you! I own the popcorn concession to this thing!

I’m just an enterprising little blogger trying to make her way right here in Amerika! I don’t want to work in the potato fields! I NEED this material. So I IMPLORE you, Roland. Show up! Then we could do a nice analogy with what Saddam Hussein always did with people he didn’t want in the room.

Come on guys! I need to catch a break here, mmmmmmmkay?

I want to see the veins in Harry Reid’s neck pulsating.

I want to see Blagojevich’s hair again.

I want to hear Bobby Rush’s next speech after the only African American man in the room gets hauled out by the Democratic Party.

I want to see Barack Obama shooting hoops in Hawaii or something while it’s all coming down!

“We’re not going to create a scene in Washington,” Burris said. “We hope it’s negotiated out prior to my going to Washington.”

No no no! Prithee Roland, I beseech thee! Playing nice is not a part the congressional handbook, man! And it never provides good blogging material!

Hey, by the way, did anybody notice that the Other Useless Party is awfully quiet these days?

  • juan

The Other Useless Party is enjoying this as much as we and the rest of the world are. IT’S JUST TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE! Wonder what Barack, the Magic Negro will do? The air is leaking out of his wonderful baloon and there is no “Swan Song” as the Media hoped.

Harry’s chickens ARE coming home to roost. The Blacks will be up in arms over this if he refuses to seat Burris.

This whole Fiasco is Racist, but I do like Blago, especially since he likes Elvis.

Good Show..Gotta go Buy some Popcorn.

    • WildChild

It’s a good how until Harry flashes us his tits.

      Then it’s pure bedlam.

      • WildChild

        …good show

  • I’m a Linda too

Indeed. Roland MUST show up. If them Democrats want to trample on the Constitution, they’ll have to do it PUBLICLY!

How embarrassing the Democrats have become. Desperate to be in control and power and calling the shots everywhere, Blago not taking to their strong arm tactics and now they wish to further play in the gutter.

Senator Burris :) needs to be there for his constituents, wether Dirty Harry likes it or not. And all of this over a Governor who is doing his job and following the Constitution appointing a Senator because he has been accused of wrong doing. Not found guilty…you know, that other LAW, INNOCENT until provent guilty.

    ts ts ts ts

    • ritamary

Yeah, if the Dems want to trample the Constitution let them do it right out in the open in front of all those tv cameras. I can hardly wait!

      • Zeke

I kinda remember they did a pretty good job by electing a punk assed liar from Kenya. How do they propose to keep out the new senator? With cops.
Well, I guess Blags will get to send the Illinois National Guard to back up his legal right to appoint a senator.

    • kgirl1028

Not so improbable that they would place someone as their nominee that did not qualify under the constitution is it now?

    • Diana L. C.

And we should remember that our current Messiah backed the election of this Governor who appointed Burris. I am a bit confused as to why The One does not want this man taking his emply seat. It’s been empty for so long because, you know, the person who was supposed to fill it was out campaigning. You’d think he would want the seat to be warmed up a little. I must be so stupid. I just don’t get it. ( :-) )

      • Owllwoman

Something tells me that he had another person ready to be seated. Perhaps Jackson or the AG, but he didn’t get his way. Priceless!

    • I’m a Linda too

      ruh roh

…looks like we have a clue why Dirty Harry is making such overt attempts to block Blago’s appointee. It wasn’t the one Dirty Harry was pushing Blago to appoint. ts ts ts ts

Days before Gov. Blagojevich was charged with trying to sell President-elect Barack Obama’s U.S. Senate seat to the highest bidder, top Senate Democrat Harry Reid made it clear who he didn’t want in the post: Jesse Jackson, Jr., Danny Davis or Emil Jones.

Rather, Reid called Blagojevich to argue he appoint either state Veterans Affairs chief Tammy Duckworth or Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan, sources told the Chicago Sun-Times.

Sources say the Senate majority leader pushed against Jackson and Davis — both democratic congressmen from Illinois — and against Jones — the Illinois Senate president who is the political godfather of President-elect Barack Obama — because he did not believe the three men were electable. He feared losing the seat to a Republican in a future election.

      http://www.suntimes.com/news/metro/blagojevich/1360191,harry-reid-blagojevich-jesse-jackson-010209.article

AS IF. The are the reasons he wants to give for naying the JJJr, Jones, Davis….and PUSHING DUCKWORTH OR MADIGAN?

oh yeah…Madigan is the one threatening to oust Blago (which didn’t work) and Duckworth….the one pushed by leadership for the House seat….Emanuel and Obama…received help from so many Dem’s, Durbin, Kerry….all that money from Rahm Emanuel….AND SHE STILL LOST. Oh yeah I buy that not losing argument. And talk about no experience. WOOF.

But that’s ok. Harry Reid’s word is not one you can count on. See Harry Reid begged Major Paul Hackett to run in the Senate afer he came closest to winning a solid RED seat in the Special House election to replace Rob Portman. After returning from Iraq to run in the Special Election for the US House, Harry Reid pressure Paul Hackett to run for the Senate seat after all others were turning it down. When the final candidate, Sherrod Brown turned it down in August 2005, and Chuckles Schumer, Dirty Harry Reid and their wives even took to calling Suzy, Paul’s wife to pressure Maj. Paul Hackett to run. He finally excepted the chance. In October a polls was down showing that Paul Hackett stood an EXCELLENT chance at unseating Pat DeWine, which meant the tide was turning for Democrats. After Paul put together a crew, purchased a bus and started campaigning, Harry Reid decided to back Sherrod Brown who changed his mind when he saw the winds changing.

They they undercut Paul Hackett and was contacting his money sources and Sherrod Brown was putting out false stories of Major Paul Hackett claiming “he did things with bodies in Iraq”. The pressure mounted from all sides, including Rahm Emanuel and Paul Hackett dropped his bid for the Senate. And received no help to get rid of debt.

Dirty Harry Reid and Rahm Emanuel should be kept at distance. And the last people to ever count on THEIR WORD.

  • candymarl

Funny how the Dems never called the law in when Repubs refused to show for testimony for lawfully issued subpoenas.

But a lawfully appointed black guy? Now, law enforcement must be involved.

    Where’s the progressive/liberal outrage now?

    Crickets..

    That’s what I thought.

    • elise

      Where’s the progressive/liberal outrage now?

Ted Turner on The Factor today (thank God O’Reilly wasn’t) said he is a PROGRESSIVE not a liberal. Well finally from the horse’s mouth what I have been saying for months: Those who voted Obama are not Liberals. When are the real Liberals going to understand they bought a pig in a poke?

      • NoBamaNoWay

i think that this is a substantive point; IMO, liberalism is about certain principles (although there may be some debate about exactly which principles comprise liberalism); “progressivism,” as far as i can tell is about adhering to a political orthodoxy (that does not much respect individual rights or responsibilities) and attempting to gain power to enforce that political orthodoxy on others. i have noticed that the obamabots seem to prefer to identify themselves as “progressives” rather than liberals.

      • WildChild

We understood it from the beginning. That’s why we supported Hillary.

  • Ani

This is, indeed, ridiculous. Harry Reid is truly making a shame of the Democratic Party — but after this election season, they were there already.

  • barry bums a ciggie

LOL, love the picture of Barry’s “change and hope” logo on the police uniform.

    The Dems are a joke.

    • kenoshamarge

Come on guys, ya gotta admit this is a change. Democrats using armed guards to keep a Democrat from entering the Senate.

Might not be the change some were hoping for but it is change.

No wonder the Republicans are being quiet, they get to watch the Democrats make total asses of themselves without any help from the Republicans. Certainly cuts out the middle-man/woman.

      Somebody cue the music, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zvzUdM29_uA

  • Peggy Sue

No, Uppity, you cannot make this stuff up. In fact, if this were in one of insider DC novels, people would scoff and say, “Ridiculous! This could never happen.”

Welcome to 2009! The Year of Wonder.

I heard this business about the armed guards at the Senate door and was flabbergasted. Have the Democrats lost their minds???

Silly me. Of course, they have. Whatever minds they had, that is. I guess the election results tell us everything we need to know.

It’s a circus posing as a Government. And here I thought GW and his gang was the worst I’d ever see.

    Color me silly, again.

    • Zeke

      PS,
You gave me a terrific mental picture of Barry pulling up to the inauguration with his entourage all piling out of a tiny clown car.
Now make that vehicle into a tiny little bus with all the maggots who helped him get there climbing out one by one…
211 weeks until the nightmare ends…

“As The HotRod Turns” writers, you say, may go on strike, Uppity Woman? Say it ain’t so!

The next episode has a working title of “The Mad Tea Party” with a has a cameo role for the U.S. Constitution.

According to Senate Rules they would have to seat him and then impeach him for cause… other wise it’s “Love the One Your With”

According to Senate Rules they would have to seat him and then impeach him for cause… other wise it’s “Love the One Your With”

Since when do the Dems follow the rulz? Remember the roll call vote?

      • TeakwoodKite

Oh yeah, sorry about that MrMike!

I thought they were “voting on a motion to re-commit the preceding bill and I object to myself”

  • elise

Once upon a time, there was a political party, called the Democratic Party, which many thought was made up of noble, intelligent men and women and they said they were the only thing standing between true believers and selfish, greedy “OTHERS”. One year during the circus, called ELECTION, they all went to the party naked and everyone laughed and cried. That was called, THE YEAR HOPE DIED”.

    • no kidding

elise –As a former lifelong Democrat I now sit in a permanent state of disbelief that this rabble is in charge of our Government when this country is in the deepest financial crisis since The Great Depression. No wonder the Republicans are sitting back and taking it all in without comment. What can you say when the party in power has become an embarrassment. Welcome to Scamalot.

  • Touchet

This is fake outrage to make obama seem even more distant from the governor. Give me a break.

    • TeakwoodKite

Are you saying that BO has “Far Away Eyes”?

      • imustprotest

        LOL!

  • Touchet

In addition. Watch as Obama gives a fabulous speech bringing race into the picture again.

    • no kidding

Touchet — Yes another great speech from Obama will soon become — NOT ANOTHER GREAT SPEECH FROM OBAMA as millions of TV sets go dark.

      • imustprotest

Typical White Grandma is sure to draw tears.

  • mel

anyone in their right minds think Odumbo wants a Blago person in his former Senate office to rummage through what Odumbo was up to legally and illegally?

    • TeakwoodKite

What? Mel, BO can’t hustle his documents over to the shredder?

O darn! I was hoping the Feds would have “minimized” that portion of the tape.

      • mel

Teak, Senate rules require that anything written on Senate stationary must have a remaining copy on disc or paper.

So Odumbo using his Senate stationary for his home purchase with Rezko, if on Senate stationary along with his nuclear reform bill he never completed due to his major contributor Exelon CEO and so forth could be something \odumbo doesn’t want exposed and why he wanted his friend Valerie to replace him in his Senate seat!

        • NoBamaNoWay

apparently that rule didn’t apply to Ozero’s Illinois senate records, all 8 years of which magically disappeared, from what i heard.

  • HARP

    Adlai Stevenson:

We should be careful and discriminating in all the advice we give. We should be especially careful in giving advice that we would not think of following ourselves. Most of all, we ought to avoid giving counsel which we don’t follow when it damages those who take us at our word.

  • Steve_in_KC

I think Burris, Al Franken, and Caroline Kennedy should link arms and stroll into the Senate together, singing “We Shall Overcome!” :D

    • Zeke

Its been retitled to, “We Shall Oversimplify”

    • http://helpmejoseph.typepad.com/puma_for_life/ Mountain Girl

You are so funny, Steve..great line; hope it’s ok to repeat it.

  • Texas Playwright

The Rod and Rol Show. Only in America.

  • PJ

This appointment, along with Caroline’s to the Senate, raises the urgency of having special elections where the people speak. Burris does not have a “sterling reputation”, has been rejected repeatedly by the voters of IL for higher office, and is blessed with an outsized ego which has made it difficult for others to work with him. And Caroline has no experience at all to bring to the table.

I am as sick to death of the Dem Party as I am of the GOP. The leaders each put forth are mediocre at best and the last two “elected” presidents leave much to be desired. Woe is us!

    • Merle

“And Caroline has no experience at all to bring to the table”

And what?? Where’s the problem? (snarl)

  • candymarl

Not having a ‘sterling reputation’, an out sized ego, or being hard to get along with, is not a reason to bar someone from the Senate floor with the force of arms. None of those things are illegal.

If that were the case the House and Senate would be mostly empty.

Caroline Kennedy may not have the experience but notice no one is suggesting law enforcement should be involved.

  • glennmcgahee

Just imagine. “Don’t Taze me bro!”

    • Zeke

The shortest Senate Enrty Speech in history….

Somehow I imagine the Black Caucus , along with Bobby Rush may show up enmass to escort Burris into the Senate.

What time the this show begin on Monday I may have to request leaving work early so as not to miss it??

But then again, Reid is good at giving out threats he never follows through on. :(

  • ILBlue

Oops, meant What time is this show to begin on Monday in above comment.

Reid and Patterson, as well, will execute a 360, do a belly flop, with a “walk on me” sign on their backs!
    A perfect score of 10!

It’s racism, I tell you! Here Soetoro, aka Obama, cried racism all through his campaign and now he ignores this real African American Senator that his dim..er Dem buddies are refusing to seat in their lily- white Senate!! Where is the faux outrage? Where is the eloquent speech, the hip hop speech, the rap speech against this blatant racism? Why isn’t Michelle not “proud of her country” again? It’s as if (gasp) the Obama’s no longer cared about racism after all! Sometimes silence speaks louder than words.

Oakley out without keepers again…cutbacks are hard for all of us…

  • Lisa Hinman

Blago has a right to appoint anyone he sees fit. Accusations alone do not remove an elected official from office. He is innocent until proven guilty and, until that time, has the right to fully function as Governor. Clinton was still an acting President during his impeachment hearings. I find it diplorable that the Democrats are trying to usurp Blago’s authority prior to a trial. Why the instant lynching? Are the Democrats wishing to prevent a long investigation that may uncover wrong doings by the Obama administration? How crooked is that? Rather than usurp the rights of the citizens legally elected official, let’s follow perscribed practices to prevail and give justice a chance or is someone tring to cover possible other wrong doing by others? What are they afraid of?

    • http://helpmejoseph.typepad.com/puma_for_life/ Mountain Girl

I agree Lisa. Until Blago is convicted of something he is presumed innocent. You are right, this must be a way of covering for Obama. They had hoped Blago would resign and get off the front page. I am finding myself rooting for Blago..the man is courageous..or stupid. I don’t know which but he has brass balls. I don’t trust Fitzgerald at all; he could have gotten Rove and he let him off; he’s trying to protect Obama is what I think. Cant’ wait until Tuesday…pass the popcorn please.

  • stodgie

reid needs to shut his dang mouth and sit down with this guy. maybe work out a deal where he is a replacement till the next election. i have heard he will get a retirement. from what i read here his chances of getting elected aren’t that great anyway. that would be the smart thing and reid could say we are concentrating on the people rather than making asses out of themselves.

that idiot in new york(paterson) almost said it wasn’t on him and that he didn’t think caroline would be elected either. so what do the governors do is appoint lack luster non electable know nothings when this country needs real talent. if anyone votes for this paterson in the future i would wonder why.

  • Bruce Hinman

Mountain Girl: What happens Tuesday? How much popcorn should I prepare?

  • http://dissentingjustice.blogspot.com Darren Hutchinson

It seems that a lot of Democrats are just conservatives with guilt. This situation is pathetic. How many true progressives can remain with Obama after Warren and Burris? Reid is the public face behind the rejection, but Obama orchestrated it — just as he orchestrated retaining Lieberman on high-level committees. Of course, I was suspicious from the start.
