Larry Johnson on The John Batchelor Show Tonight

Tune in to John Batchelor’s West Coast show at 11 p.m. EDT. According to the schedule, Larry Johnson joins the panel at 11:20 but, last week, Larry was on the air earlier, so we recommend you begin listening by 11:05 p.m. via KFI 640 AM.

Besides Larry Johnson, the panel includes John Avlon of The Daily Beast, and Craig Unger of Vanity Fair. SWAG.

Bill Roggio, Long War Journal, embeds this wondrously pretentious video from South Waziristan in Bill’s rich resource of Long War Journal, showing the Jihad lads chanting and churning in the summer dust, with live-fire demonstrations of their prowess fighting the Martians or whoever else shows up.

What did show up at this rudimentary training camp (needs a clubhouse, a screening room), called Karwan Manza, was a flight of Predators.

Wildly inexact reports of casualty numbers, perhaps 8, perhaps 8 million. Back in Vietnam they called this kind of military after-battle report SWAG, for Stupid Wild Ass Guess.

Am gathering an AfPakia Roundable Panel on Sunday 12, with Bill Roggio, Ann Marlowe, who is on her way back to Afghanistan for an embed, Larry Johnson, No Quarter, and Nicholas Schmidle, author, who was thrown out of Pakistan back in 2008 for asking the right questions and who is a fertile Pakistan commentator now, with his new book on his experiences in Karachi, Peshawar, with the ironic Pashtuns, in the Northwest Territories, To Live or to Perish Forever: Two Tumultuous Years in Pakistan. Uyghur Liberty or Death

The Uyghurs of East Turkistan have launched a wave of protest against the bullying, greedy, ineffective Beijing leadership, this time in the East Turkistan (called by the Beijing cadre Xinjiang Province) capital of Urumqi.

Over the last year, we have reported a deal on the Uyghur protests and the Uyghur yearning for liberty.

Uyghurs in exile are based out of Washington with Rebiya Kadeer. The Beijing cadre is blaming the Washington based group for the riots.

We expect to speak to correspondents at Urumqi on Sunday 12, and we aim to open show with voices from the Washington Uyghurs.

This is a profound threat to the unelected leadership in Beijing, because it encourages the other dissident groups in the Chinese empire, such as Tibet, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Falun Dafa and the democratic advocates. Tibet liberty was crushed last year.

Expect the same brutality in East Turkistan. Bejing is losing control of the narrative. It may be the financial turmoil; it may be the bald courage of those who demand democracy and freedom.

Do we expect to hear a statement from the Obama administration in support of the valorous, resourceful Uyghurs? Shrug.

Lives of the Bengal Lancers

The news that Lt. General Stanley McChrystal (three stars) the Special Forces veteran is replacing General David McKiernan (four stars) the AirLand veteran in Afghanistan is one warning light of what I learned from a variety of observers Sunday 10 — that the war against the Taliban in Afghanistan is not going well and that it cannot be won until and if the war against the Taliban in Pakistan is resolved.

One more time, the Bengal Lancers must ride into the Swat Valley to subdue the ferocious and never defeated Afridi (left, “The Lives of the Bengal Lancers, Henry Hathaway’s 1935 action drama, the 41st Bengal Landers versus the wily villain Mohammed Khan). John Bolton told me that the Islamabad civilian leadership may well collapse into another military dictatorship.

James Lamont, Financial Times, from Delhi, told me that India wants to keep out of the turmoil on the Af-Pak border; and that India knows that it will be the first to suffer if Pakistan collapses.

Zahid Hussain, Wall Street Journal, from Islamabad, told me that the presenting crisis is 500,000 Pashtun refugees are fleeing the indiscriminate savagery by Taliban and Pakistani units in the Swat Valley yet finding no government facilities or assistance waiting for them.

The formula is bald: if Pakistan collapses, Afghanistan is lost. Our old enemy the one-eyed Mullah Omar is in command; and his colleague Osama Bin Laden and the remnant of Al Qaeda are in league with the rebels.

The Islamabad civilian government and the Pakistani military both understand that the Taliban means to take over the northwest part of the country. Zahid Hussain reminded me that A.A. Zardari has been gone from Islamabad for a month of overseas networking. This does not make Zardari more effective or secure.

I am asked if the nukes are secure. SecDef Robert Gates says the Pakistani nukes are secure. Then again, Gates just fired McKiernan and sent in a Green Beret. Not a confidence building exercise.

Pope of Smithfield Foods Doubts Veracruz Pig Flu Persuasively

Virginia’s Smithfield Foods CEO Larry Pope speaks with much careful persuasion against the suspicion of the partially Smithfield-owned CAFO, or mega pig farm, at La Gloria, was the source of the A/H1N1. The interview drags on, but Pope makes is good points right away.

No pig is sick at La Gloria, no pig worker is sick – and neither is a pig or a pig worker sick anywhere else in the Smithfield system.

Pope speaks under fire. The Smithfield stock has dropped 20% in the past days. Only 20%, because, if it was proved that El Gloria was the source, then the stock would have been crushed. Pope says a major team is headed to La Gloria to do a thorough audit.

His remarks come after the surprising news from California that two children fell ill with the A/H1N1 on March 30 and April 1. One ten year-old boy in San Diego County, now recovered; and one nine year-old girl in Imperial County, now recovered. Neither is known to have had contact with pigs. It is illogical to argue that Edgar Hernandez at La Gloria is Patient Zero. Unless and until the virus is found in the one million pigs at La Gloria, Veracruz State, the outbreak origin remains unknown.
